Media education provides knowledge and skills that empower media consumers to critically use the media. The project brought together international experts to develop a common approach to media education training, learn from each other and exchange experiences. The most important and significant part of the project was preparation of the innovative European Media Literacy Standard for Youth Workers available at emels.eu, complemented by educational materials. The Standard promotes wide approach to media literacy and allows to link it with different youth work activities, which contributes to raising the quality of youth work and training in media education field. The Standard encourages youth workers from all over Europe to become media educators. EMELS is user-friendly, easy to navigate and provides practical examples for each competence. The Standard is complemented by best practices identified by each organisation involved in the project and training resources that help youth workers to develop their own competencies and implement media literacy in their work. Thanks to the Standard media, information and digital skills can be more easily recognised and better understood by youth workers, organisations supporting them and public bodies.
