Termo que designa combustíveis e aditivos derivados de fontes renováveis de energia, o biodiesel existe desde 1980 no Brasil, quando foi assinada a primeira patente pelo professor Expedito Parente. Desde então, sua importância vem crescendo gradativamente, devido ao agravamento dos problemas ambientais, uma vez que sua utilização tem aparecido como uma alternativa altamente promissora para a diminuição da poluição, tanto na emissão de gás carbônico como fumaça e óxido de enxofre. No Brasil foi criado o Programa Nacional de Produção e uso do Biodiesel, cujo objetivo é inserir o novo produto na matriz energética do país, fortalecendo a economia e criando novas oportunidades de emprego e renda, podendo ser um importante produto para a independência energética nacional, já que o Brasil ainda importa óleo diesel para consumo interno. Este estudo visa identificar a percepção ambiental, social e econômica do Biodiesel junto a docentes do Centro de Tecnologia da cidade de Natal/RN (CTGÁS-RN). Para tanto, foi utilizado um questionário estruturado com questões fechadas, organizadas em escala likert, sendo embasadas nas três esferas de análise da pesquisa, o biodiesel e suas nuances sociais, econômicas e ambientais, totalizando em 31 questionários respondidos na íntegra. Do ponto de vista de seus objetivos a pesquisa foi descritiva e em relação à forma de abordagem, quantitativa. Para a análise de dados foram utilizadas ferramentas estatísticas (software Statistic, versão 6.1 e Microsoft Excel 2003). A pesquisa revelou a predominância do âmbito ambiental na ótica dos docentes, seguido dos aspectos sociais. For that, it was used a questionnaire closed questions, organized in the likart scale, directed to the tree spheres of the research analysis, the biodiesel and its social, ambient and economic nuances, totaling 31 questionnaires full answered.
