Project for higher education student and staff mobility between Programme Countries and Partner Countries

Description

One of the internationalization objectives key stated in Vilnius College's of Technology and Design internationalization strategy is to improve quality of studies by integrating good practices of foreign partner institutions into studies, applied research and creative activities. The college had chosen to concentrate on staff mobility during application for funding, as it was foreseen that staff mobility for teaching and training would be most helpful in making a real impact on study programmes by integrating good practices and new teaching approaches learned during the staff mobility visits.Eight institutions from five different Partner countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia, Russian Federation and Kazakhstan) participated in staff exchange with Vilnius College of Technologies and Design during this project. The scope of this project included 32 staff mobility exchanges -17 incoming staff mobility visits from Partner countries (11 for teaching, 6 for training) and 15 outgoing staff mobility exchanges to Partner countries (11 for teaching, 4 for training). The institutions from Partner countries contributed to implementation of the project as agreed and with regards to the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and their internationalization strategies. They ensured equal access to participants, organized fair and transparent participant selection processes, recognized the results of the student mobility activities, provided support and guidance to the incoming and outgoing participants (before, during and after mobility periods), and adhered to procedural regulations of the project. According to participant reports, 100 % of incoming participants were very satisfied or rather satisfied with their mobility experience in general. The exchange of teaching approaches and methods provided by implementation of this project allowed to make an impact at the point where change and modernization is actually most important - the teaching programmes. The staff exchange activities have had the highest impact on the institutions and on the process of building lasting cooperation ties between them. Some plans have already been discussed among the participants who are subject lecturers and the corresponding subject lecturers in the hosting institutions. This responds well to the initial strategy of Vilnius College of Technologies and Design - to start mainly with staff exchange, so that proper ties for future collaboration would be established on the subject level. Also, successful ties have been established between departments that are responsible for international cooperation and development; possibilities and expectations of the participating institutions were discussed in the context of potential future collaboration in several projects, like joint workshops and transfer of knowledge in introducing similar study programmes. For the beneficiary as an institution, the implementation of this project gave an opportunity to be a guiding part in the dissemination of European Higher Education values. Implementation of the KA107 project with Partner countries had a big impact on helping to reach the level of internationalization that would have a clear and sustainable benefit for the institutions via partnerships that yield real ties. For Partner country institutions, this project presented an opportunity to learn the procedural peculiarities of how such projects are managed, and helped them gain collaboration experience with a European HEI which will facilitate their participation in future projects and programmes with higher education institutions from Europe.
