Higher education student and staff mobility project

Description

"Erasmus+ funding for student and staff mobility between Programme Countries for the period 2016-2019 has been used for the promotion of student and staff mobilities at the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE) as applied for. The HNEE has about 2,100 HNEE enrolled students in study programmes with a special profile on the topic of sustainable development. During the project period, 18 students received support for study visits (SMS) at partner universities in Spain, France, Poland, Turkey and Austria, among others. The average duration of the SMS mobilities was 4 months. The majority of these outgoing students were enrolled as master students. 9 students were male and 9 female. The selected host universities are mainly long-term partner institutions of HNEE with overlapping and complementary courses. SMP activities of HNEE - students were funded by the consortium with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg (Leonardo Office). It is noticeable that a vast majority of the funded students have gained a greater self-conception through their stay abroad in terms of assessing their own abilities or dealing with new situations and challenges. These students felt as well that their ability to work in a team had improved as a result of their stay abroad and emphasised that they would now be more open-minded towards other people, work better with people from other cultures and value other cultures more highly. In addition, the acquisition of specialist knowledge is regarded as particularly valuable.During the project period, 9 staff mobilities were successfully carried out, 4 for teaching purposes (STA) and 5 for further education/training purposes (STT). The supported employees were able to expand their professional networks by spending time abroad. For almost all of them, the participation in the staff mobility also increased their job satisfaction and they learned from examples of good practice abroad. In addition, the majority of these employees stated that they were able to improve their career opportunities through the mobility.Participants for teaching purposes emphasised that the mobility enabled them to strengthen the cooperation with the partner institution, experienced new learning and teaching methods and improved their own organisational, management and leadership qualities. In the field of staff mobility for training purposes, the majority of participants confirmed that they had gained practical and technical experience relevant to their professional development and current activities, as well as improving their knowledge of foreign language and their social, linguistic and/or cultural competences. The existing partnerships had been deepened at a substantial and structural level, leading to incentives for the development of further projects (e.g. Erasmus+ capacity building in higher education; projects with funds from other organisations).By evaluating and passing on the experiences within the university as well as to regional, national and international partners, these project results are disseminated, procedures and processes are further optimised and further persons are encouraged and enabled to plan and successfully carry out mobilities or cooperation within the framework of the ERASMUS+ programme or beyond. Internally, this process has led to the decision to establish a smaller but well-chosen group of Erasmus partnerships for each subject area. On the one hand, the mobility possibilities and the related modules are to be more concrete. On the other hand, the partnerships in the teaching and further education sector are to be strengthened.Incomings (SMS, STT and STA) support HNEE by actively enriching teaching and research. For the success of the incoming activities, a successful integration of them into the study-, teaching- and working - life is of great importance. This requires the various actors of the university (students, teachers and employees) to actively participate in the integration of the incoming students and thus to be sensitive towards their situation (e.g. academic, linguistic and cultural challenges, but also in the organisation of non-university everyday life). Thus, the international students and teachers of the Erasmus program contribute to an ""Internationalisation on the ground"". However, this local internationalisation is not limited to the university campus with its students and employees, but also extends to the city of Eberswalde and the surrounding region."
