The aim of the present project, which was initiated by the Museumsverein Klostertal, is to enable high-quality educational work in a regional museum with a European orientation. The focus is on the history of winter sports. This topic has played an important role in the Klostertal / Arlberg region for many decades. Since the beginning of the 20th century, skiing and winter tourism have contributed to a structural change that continues until today. This should be discussed, documented and communicated in the museum. We want to do this in a European context. The present project serves the establishment of contacts and the acquisition of competences in this area. Since its foundation, Museumsverein Klostertal and the Klostertal museum have consistently started to strengthen their profile towards internationality through EU-funded projects and other measures. The educational institution enjoys an excellent reputation in the region. The declared goal is to increasingly strengthen the European dimension of knowledge transfer and to push the corresponding topics. Political education, micro-history as a representation of European and global history as well as questions of digitization are just some of the focal areas to be mentioned, the latter playing a very important role not least in the collection of museum objects and in archiving. The Klostertal Museums Association is currently participating in two Interreg projects in the Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein program. The experience gained flows into the project submitted here. In the future we would like to focus our network and our projects on the whole European area. Corresponding contacts should now be initiated.Christof Thöny was selected as the coordinator of the previous EU-funded activities and as chairman of the association for the present project in order to take part in further training in Norway, an internship in Finland and a research stay with teaching in the United Kingdom. The partner institutions were selected on the basis of their experience in the area of the history and cultural heritage of winter sports and in the area of European projects. The experience gained should contribute significantly to sharpening the profile of our organization in a topic that is important for our region and to enabling a stronger international orientation of the activities of the Museum Association Klostertal. In the area of educational offers with lectures, symposia, workshops and excursions, it is planned in future to focus more on the topic of the history of winter sports with a European background. This is taken into account in the selected mobility measures; the partners were deliberately selected with due regard to their competence in this area. The contacts made with this mobility are said to be useful for initiating future strategic partnerships. Some concrete measures to make the strategic considerations visible are planned as part of the project. This includes increased public relations work and the publication of a folder with the corresponding content. In addition, the historical-critical discourse on questions of contemporary history (especially in the field of winter sports) should flow more into the program design in the future, not least by organizing a series of lectures. In the long term, we expect the competencies in education and the profile to expand from a strongly regional dimension to an international dimension. In a united Europe where regions play an important role, this should be of particular importance.
