There is wide evidence regarding the weak points of end-stage Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients in hemodialysis, and they include three intervention aspects: exercise, nutrition and psychological support. Evidence shows that exercise for patients in hemodialysis results in increased survival rate, functional capacity, strength and health-related quality of life. Additionally, different studies have shown the benefits of psychological interventions and the positive effect of educational programs on nutritional care for patients in hemodialysis. Despite the well-known benefits of exercise, this kind of programs are not being implemented in the routine clinical care of hemodialysis patients. Thus, the GoodRENal project aims to promote healthy lifestyles among dialysis patients in a holistic approach that combines exercise, nutrition and psychological wellbeing plus cognitive functioning addressing adult learners. The project will develop a health virtual platform including these three dimensions of cares. In summary, the project outputs will be:1.A didactic content in a modular platform to create an educational program for integrated treatments in patients with dialysis, O12.A guideline to promote healthy lifestyles among dialysis patients for health care providers, IO23.A guideline to promote e healthy lifestyles among dialysis patients for patients and formal – non formal carers IO3.In addition, two multiplier events will be held in Valencia and Greece, joining healthcare professionals, patients in dialysis treatment, families of dialysis patients, formal and non-formal caregivers of dialysis patients, and institutional stakeholders, such as; policy-makers, public administrations, regional entities and officers involved. A learning activity is also arranged to teach participants about the use of the platform and its didactic content. To achieve these aims, the consortium has been composed by 8 partners coming from Spain, Greece, Sweden and Belgium. - Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU - FSP-CEU has a large track record in clinical research in the field of renal rehabilitation. They have implemented exercise programs for patients undertaking hemodialysis in different clinical centers in Valencia.- Skåne University Hospital- SUS and specifically the Department of Nephrology has extensive experience in Nephrology research comprising fields of exercise training.- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki organizes and coordinates exercise rehabilitation programs for patients with chronic kidney disease. Additionally, intradialytic renal rehabilitation programs are performed in the Renal Unit of AHEPA Hospital for CKD patients on dialysis- Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and its collaboration with the department of nephrology of the University Hospital Leuven have a large track record in both clinical and basic research at an international level. - Hospital de Manises, the Nephrology Service has extensive experience on patients with chronic hemodialysis treatment and its complications. The intra-dialysis exercise has been applied as combined aerobic exercise plus resistance with bicycles plus weights, and also through virtual reality. - Universitat de Valencia UVEG as partner has a strong experience in IT transfer knowledge, dissemination and exploitation. The Universitat de València is highly qualified in training activities thanks to the strong academic expertise of its staff. - Universitat Politècnica de València -UPV, the PhD in Computer Science José-Antonio Lozanol-Quilis from the UPV has specialized in the field of Virtual Reality (VR) applied to the treatment of Psychological.- Karolinska Institutet -KI and specifically the Baxter Novum is built on the unique opportunities for integrated (academia industry healthcare), translational (clinical research basic research) and collaborative (collaborations with other researchers in Novum, KI and all over the world) research at Novum, Karolinska Institutet. The expected impact on the patient’s dialysis treatment, healthcare providers and the formal or non-formal caregivers will be: i) treatment adherence with the virtual platform due to all the implicated parts are listened in the tool`s elaboration ii) to cover over the patients and carers needs of health advice and including a usefulness treatment iii) Acquire an integrated treatment (exercise, nutrition and psychology) iv) Acquire a friendly tools for learning v) Achieve an adult education of healthcare providers and caregivers contributing to remove barriers of multimodal treatment, and consequently, ensure transferability to the clinical practice and the routine of health care professionals in the haemodialysis unit.At European level the project will promote the creation of a wide transnational community of dialysis patients and healthcare professionals with different background and experiences to shared it between all the mentioned community.
