The CEWSE project is in line with the concept of Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (CoE) as it was planned as a 3-year coherent program which was the first such initiative at SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland on still underdeveloped at SGH interdisciplinary areas of teaching, research and outreach activities on the external dimension of EU as a tool to increase its competitiveness, geopolitical, economic & social stability to face the changing global settings, challenges & opportunities of the globalizing world. This project is greatly influenced by: a) the personality& outstanding experience (over 25 years) of Professor Ewa Latoszek in teaching and research in EU studies& b) the quality, experience, knowledge of SGH Staff & all others involved in CEWSE.Through its activities it created a new innovative interdisciplinary (cross-cutting) research, teaching & dissemination centre.In addition to the objectives of JM CoE the main CEWSE aims were: •establishing background for: developing updated EU Interdisciplinary Studies (BA/MA/PhD) &creating PhD Multidisciplinary International EU Studies at WSE• equipping students with knowledge of EU subjects relevant to their academic & professional lives; raising students’ awareness of the critical role the EU should play working together with other actors •fostering dialogue between the academic world, policy-makers, institutional experts & civil society•building the SGH capacity& strengthening the European Higher Education Area through stimulating collaboration among researchers from different specialization & high level experts from EU MS and some non-EU contries specializing in EU topics, promoting the interdisciplinary research and developing a wide networking activities.Through a wide variety of activities supporting research & the teaching at SGH, including i.a. PhD Workshops, international congresses, roundtable debates & publishing books, it was planned to contribute to:• working out the methodology of research & new pedagogical strategies in teaching EU increasing students’ skills• create E-Centre& new ICT tools to increase knowledge & improve learning process• enhance & extend research results in social media• promote sharing good practices through a dialogue & expertise-exchange among Polish andinternational scholars, policy-makers and wider public including civil society• promote European networking and cross-fertilisation practices in the EU research & studies• foster engagement of young academics• increase the interest in EU topics among academics not directly involved in EU studies• filling the existing at SGH gap in providing innovative research & teaching in a field particularlyrelevant to students studying at WSE taking not only the EU Studies.While offering the multidisciplinary program of teaching & research activities CEWSE was to deal with a wide variety of topics requiring to tackle them from the point of view of many disciplines like European integration, international economcs, international finance, law, political sciences, sociology etc. to develop synergies between various disciplines to attain a deeper understanding of the on-going integration process and European heritage. CEWSE aimed also to offer informal & formal networking during the project activities among students, PhD students, academics & researchers (young and experienced) & experts,including many Polish & foreign highly acknowledged actors with special attention to the young resarchers, academics, networks, NGOs and PhD students.
