<< Objectives >>As project partners, we believe that our young members, as well as other young people around the EU, are insufficiently aware of the negative effect that the fast fashion trend has on our environment. With the advent of fast fashion, the textile industry has become one of the biggest polluters of our planet. The EU is also aware of this, and on March 30, 2022, as part of the Green Deal, it presented the Sustainable and Circular Textiles strategy until 2030.As part of the project, young participants, with the help of youth leaders, will discuss the issue of fast fashion and discuss the reasons why it happened in the first place and how we can help improve the situation. At the youth exchange, the participants will also create an e-brochure, in which the issue of fast fashion and textile waste will be presented in a simplified and comprehensible way for young people, and proposed solutions for improving the situation will be shown. With this project, we also want to enable the young participants to develop and strengthen their key competences, to acquire new knowledge, skills and abilities, and at the same time to enable and encourage them to be actively involved in the course of the entire project. We will also introduce young people to the importance of planning and identifying learning effects and recording acquired competencies. Our project is most closely related to the 10th European Youth Goal - Sustainable Green Europe. This goal states that the volume of our consumption today is greater than our environment can handle. It is necessary to create a society in which all young people are environmentally active, educated and able to create changes in their everyday lives. Project partners and our young members believe that by implementing this project we will be able to take a step in the right direction to achieve this goal.<< Implementation >>The main activity of the project will be a youth exchange, which will take place in the tourist accommodation center Peterloug in Šalovci, between 22 and 31 August 2023. By participating in the youth exchange, young participants will learn more about the issues of fast fashion and textile waste. They will get to know the EU strategy Sustainable and circular textiles until 2030, with which the EU tackles this issue. Participants will also learn about the EU ReSet The Trend campaign, with which the EU wants to involve Europeans in the fight against fast fashion and raise public awareness of the EU's textile strategy. When involving participants, we enabled equal opportunities and access for all young people, even for those with fewer opportunities. Each project partner will send 5 participants and 1 youth leader to the youth exchange. During the selection, we paid attention to age (most of the participants are between 16 and 22 years old), a balanced ratio between the sexes, and according to the motivation that the young members showed for participating in the project. Since we believe that the positive effect will be greatest among young people with fewer opportunities, we also put special emphasis on the inclusion of these young people who come from families with low incomes, from remote and less developed places and with social problems. When selecting the youth leaders who will participate in this project, our partners chose the most suitable people. We did not put the emphasis on age, but only on their competences regarding youth work and knowledge of fast fashion issues. The age of the participants varies considerably, but when including youth leaders, we paid attention to the fact that we have a balance between the male and female genders.<< Results >>By participating in this project, young participants will learn more about the issues of fast fashion and textile waste. At the youth exchange, they will discuss the reasons why this happened in the first place and how we ourselves can help to improve the situation. At the youth exchange, the young participants will also create an e-brochure, in which it will be presented in a simplified and comprehensible way for young people. They will improve their competences and acquire new knowledge, skills and abilities. They will learn the importance of planning and identifying learning effects and recording acquired competencies. At the end of the project, we expect motivated and proactive young people who will start to think about and take advantage of various opportunities abroad. By participating in this project, young people will strengthen their competences, intercultural awareness, personal development, creativity and active citizenship. They will become more active in their home environment and more interested in current events. We partners believe that by participating in this project, we will improve our capacity to work with young people in our home environment. We expect that the young participants of the project will become more active after the completion of the project and that participation in this project will encourage them to start engaging in youth work themselves within the framework of our organizations. This could also contribute to attracting new, hitherto inactive young people from our local areas to participate.Despite the fact that all partners have a lot of experience working at the international level, this project will allow us to forge even stronger mutual ties and mutual trust. This will contribute to the fact that in the near future we will be able to jointly develop a project aimed at training our youth workers in the field of fast fashion and textile waste. Also, our partners have already discussed the joint development of a strategic partnership in the field of fast fashion, which would further deepen our cooperation and at the same time improve our operational capabilities at the international level. We partners want the effect of this project to be a positive change in our local communities and in the wider region. We want people in our environment to be more aware of the issue of fast fashion and textile waste and to make positive changes in their everyday lives. This would at least partially contribute to the fight against textile waste and the negative effects of fast fashion on the environment.
