Description

UITM has been paying much attention to internationalization since the beginning of its activity, therefore participating in the Erasmus+ Programme is so important for the University. In the academic year 2015/2016 UITM has taken part in Erasmus+ Key Action 1: Mobility of individuals. The most important goals of the mobility are: increasing the University’s internalization, increasing its renown in the international arena, obtaining international accreditations; developing the competence of administrative and academic staff, developing the participants’ language and international communication skills; the establishment of international contacts that contribute to the University’s development, implementing international strategic projects while working in partnership, enhancing the cooperation between universities and companies, exchange of knowledge, experience and good practices; organizing internships at foreign institutions to help students and graduates become more competitive in the job market. Thanks to participating in the Erasmus+ Programme in the academic year 2015/2016, twenty UITM students went abroad to study at the partner universities. From the received applications, candidates were chosen that would be at least second-year students at the time of mobility, had high academic performance and a good knowledge of a foreign language. Twenty students from such departments as Aviation Management, International Management, Tourism and Recreation, Journalism and Social Communication, Economics, Information Technology and Econometrics, English Philology and Information Technology went for one semester to the universities of Germany, Spain, Turkey and France. The international character of the University contributed to the fact that not only Polish students became the beneficiaries of the project, but also students from India, Ukraine, Kazakhstan or Hungary. In the same year, UITM hosted six students from the partner university in Turkey and Spain in the winter semester and seven students from Portugal, France, Turkey and Denmark in the summer semester. The opportunity of doing an internship at a foreign institution under the Erasmus+ Programme was taken by eight UITM students from such majors as International Management, Aviation Management, Tourism and Recreation, Logistics, English Philology and Information Technology. Students chose to do an internship in Bulgaria, Spain, Greece and Macedonia. Seven persons went for staff mobility for teaching, one of them with the title of associate professors, three with doctor’s and three with master’s degree. It is worth noting that UITM students had the opportunity to participate in the lectures given by an expert from a foreign company - GlaxoSmithKline Spa - Pharmaceuticals. Four members of the staff took part in the mobility for training aimed at improving their professional skills and qualification. The employees of Department of Finance and the Project Office went to the partner universities in Portugal and Italy.Among the University’s implemented activities are: establishing cooperation with the universities in Erasmus+ Partner Countries, organizing and coordinating SMS, SMP, STA and STT mobility (recruitment, information meetings and training sessions), organizing and coordinating arrivals from the partner universities, promoting the Erasmus+ Programme at the university (on a webpage). The results and accomplishments of the project are: enhancing international cooperation, increasing the knowledge and professional skills of the staff (including improving the participants’ language skills), the development of the beneficiaries’ international competence as well as personal (growth of independence, discipline, adjusting to a new environment), the improvement of the participants’ practical skills (fulfilling forms, managing documents), the expanding and constant improving of the educational offer in English, thanks to which the University can apply for international accreditations. Long-term benefits: the internationalization of the University through adding it to the network of European institutions with mobility programs; intensifying the international cooperation – signing agreements with the selected partner universities for the following academic years; improving the process of implementing the international mobility programs; the professionalization of academic and administrative staff through gaining new competence, experience and knowledge; spreading the ECTS system; gaining the international professional experience.
