The project aims at developing a multi-departmental course on the role of the EU in relation to sustainability. In particular, the course would be accessible to students of a plurality of faculties and integrated into their current course of study. The course aims at integrating in-depth knowledge of the EU policy framework in the perspective of the 2030 Agenda. By combining the study of the EU’s role as a global political leader in the field of sustainability and global challenges relating to socio-economic inequalities and environmental change, the course is purposed to promote a deeper understanding of the pivotal role that the EU plays both on the global and national scale, in terms of policy-making for sustainability. This is to be done by developing a teaching programme with the European Green Deal as its core policy of interest, addressing the ways in which it targets issues of sustainability from an interdisciplinary (o multidisciplinary??) perspective. In order to do so, an analysis of the European Green Deal policy will be carried out in parallel with the study of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: To what extent do objectives and recommendations of the two policies overlap? Do they converge in reality? On the basis of facts dissemination and empirical evidence, the ambition is to enhance students’ awareness about EU’s actions in the field of sustainable development, especially of those students of departments which would not normally come into contact with European Studies, as well as the general public.Integrating the study of EU policy making from the perspective of socio-economic and environmental sustainability is a fundamental step in the direction of promoting European Studies and the 2030 Agenda in HE institutions.
