Description

Volunteering for Pythia is a great chance to participate in a new culture, learn about new customs and habits, meet new people and learn the Greek language. The historic background of this country is a great opportunity for everyone to indulge in the 8.000 years history of the Kavala region, visit its basic attraction, learn about Myths and Philosophy, taste new agricultural products, listen to traditional music, integrate into the local community, meet other young people, socialise, participate in leisure activities. This project objective was to advance and promote the historical, cultural and agricultural context of our region, by organizing educational and social activities like cultural and agricultural research and workshops, participating in conferences and festival and organising touristic, athletic and folklore activities. The outcomes of all our actions was widely diffused among our fellow citizens, our organisation and volunteering network across Greece and Europe. The project required 2 long-term volunteers, with no specific background but with an interest in learning by doing and eager to have new experiences, meet new cultures and live like a local for the volunteering period. They was responsible for the following activities: Activity 1: Researching and promoting local historical buildings Activity 2: Creating cultural and touristic walks from 8.000 years of history. Methodology: Different activities were enabled to deploy various knowledge, skills and attitude outcomes and especially non-formal and learning by doing activities, self-empowerment and competence improvement, english and greek language literacy, active participation in various initiatives, inter-cultural learning and knowledge, human and European values on diversity and cultural variety. Expected results and a brief description of the effects: after the completion of the project, participants were abled to enrich their knowledge, skills and competences, becoming familiar with the local history and culture through experiential learning and high-end technologies. They were abled to create follow up initiatives and participate in future cooperation projects and develop sustainable networks of volunteers and organisations. Through personal research of local history buildings and culture in Greece and specifically in Municipality of Paggaio they promoted through a touristic guide the local history. The results of both activities was delivered to the local society in order to use for pubic. Benefits of the project in long term: The aim of the project was in favour of the European values, diversity, social inclusion, tolerance and active citizenship, used history and culture to promoted the long history of people and its creations.
