Higher education student and staff mobility project

Description

The Erasmus programme is managed over a wide territorial area which includes separate locations for 18 departments in five centres, including the province of Naples and Caserta Although the University, does not have its own campus it has stipulated agreements locally (Erasmus Point, Housing anywhere, Scuola Nazionale dell’Amministrazione di Caserta) and can offer incoming students, before their arrival in Naples, the possibility of choosing appropriate (structure and price) accommodation .These services have certainly improved reception and facilitated integration for both students and teaching staff in the university structures. Recently the University has resolved another problem regarding the lack of an efficient system of local transport with a shuttle bus for students:“Viaggia con SoontoSUN”. With these shuttle busses an integrated transport system to assist students in their movements between department destinations has been created. An smartphone app has been produced for students to book a seat on the shuttle bus.Furthermore, a Carpooling service has been activated in the past few months to encourage students to organise themselves into groups according to common destinations, in order to reduce costs (sharing expenses) and alternating their use of private cars. The university has identified specific free parking areas at several SUN locations, reserved exclusively for carpooling users. All this can be found in a single App, by clicking on “SoonToSUN” students can book seats on the shuttle bus or find travel companions to reach course and exam locations. Although a language center has not yet been established the department of Literature and Langauges, in collaboration with instructors of different foreign language working within several departments, is offering free language courses for outgoing and incoming students. Since 2004 the UCLV has adopted a conversion system for credits obtained abroad, according to the ECTS table, and recently the system has been updated to new European guidelines. A further activity connected to the development of the Erasmus+ Programme is the employment of UCLV graduates abroad. It is worth noting that the number of participants, professors, teachers and researchers has increased substantially thanks to university funds for co-financing and mobility projects. Improvements have further been recorded due to increased diffusion of information via the link to the Erasmus+ Programme activated by the University www.unina2.it (which since last year has been available in several languages including Russian and Chinese), and via information passed on via the major social networks, thanks to the staff of the Internationalization Office.A fundamental role is also played by the support and information offered by previous participants. During this academic year we have also proceeded in renewing and increasing partnerships with foreign universities thanks to the introduction of services for accommodation search, reception, and administrative support for visas and permits. The positive aspects of the programme designed for European students is confirmed to have improved their professional prospects. For example, many of our Erasmus participants on training programmes have been offered work prospects within the organisations where they had done their training. We can certainly say that Erasmus mobility (at all levels) leads to mind broadening and offers the chance, as well as to improve professional experience, to become more open to working abroad. We can conclude with certainty that Erasmus favours integration and creates stronger identification as European citizens, as opposed to that found in the current political tendencies
