"RED Onion (Recognition of non formal education, Empowerment of Young people and Development of Youth Work - Onion) was a 24 months project coordinated by YUPI organization in Portugal, in close partnership with Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Vietnam, Thailand, India and Indonesia for a total number of 500 young people and youth workers in the 8 countries involved from Europe and Asia. RED Onion because ""Onion"" represents many times a symbol for the Diversity thematics, a concept that we understand as transversal to our project and that we want to integrate in our working culture and raise awareness for the added-value of diversity for young people, specially in a historical moment of Europe (and not only) where discriminatory attitudes and xenophobia are becoming common. Despite this meaning of ""onion"", this symbol also reflects the multi-layer approach whereas the person (young person), the team (staff/youth workers), the board members and the regional networks are the target group and have specific interests/needs addressed by this project. Our main goal was to create an international network of partners interested in creating a system of training of youth workers that reflects the needs of the involved organizations based on non formal education methodology development, through a training referential on the topic and an open educational resource as a learning platform that will be disseminated to external partners. This international network aimed at, based upon the results and the products that resulted from the previous RED2.0 project, redirect the partnership towards EuroAsia partnership and apply the added value and the outcomes in order to enhance a different composition of partners. The activities plan was composed by a coordinators meeting in Portugal; mobility of 4 youth workers (Asian organizations were hosted by EU partners); mobility of 4 youth workers from Europe in Indonesia; involvement of 8 EVS activities for 5.5 months each by young people with fewer opportunities; an intensive training course for professional development of EVS mentors, project management and internationalization for board members and intercultural learning for EVS young people; regional training courses of NFE practises (1 in each continent); a dissemination set of training courses implemented by the participants of the regional training courses; a training referential (online) for all ""target group layers"" for supporting and monitoring learning; a final evaluation meeting in Vietnam for gathering outcomes and producing final results systematization.RED Onion was supported by previous experiences of this network and all partners agreed that it resulted in more quality, diversity and more social impact of the partnership and in the community."
