Active Citizenship in the 21st Century

Description

<< Objectives >>The project is designed by young people for young people with the main purpose of getting young people more involved in democratic life in their countries and in the EU, to give them a voice to express their concerns and to empower them to be active citizens while understanding and respecting the democratic systems in place in their countries and in the EU.The main objectives of the project is to help young people understand and get involved in:Policy ReformThe EU democratic system and the involvement of youth in policy reformLearning and understanding EU laws and policiesActive Citizenship and EU citizenshipHuman Rights Ways to meet with policy makers and to facilitate policy reform with youth needs in mindEncouraging youth to be more active in democratic life<< Activities >>This project will be on Youth Exchange which will take place in London. The activities foreseen for the youth exchange will include proven non-formal methodologies and will be run by the young participants of the project and managed by the partner organisations. We will have 5 participants from each of 11 countries, including the leader, who will implement the project. The profile of the participants are young people from the partner countries who come from a broad spectrum of each country, who will represent their country and the youth of their country in this project to learn from other youth, share their ideas, knowledge, voice the opinions and work together to understand and make the changes needed in their countries and the EU.An idea to make this a KA3 project was discussed but since there will be no guaranteed involvement of policy makers in this project, we felt a youth exchange would be the best platform for this project. It is hoped that a KA3 project could be a follow up project where we can take results and outcomes to policy makers and ask for their involvement in the KA3 project. << Impact >>If we can measure the impact of this project from the interest and involvement of youth in the partner countries, then we can predict a great impact on the participants and the youth in the partner countries. It is vital that these young people are given the opportunity to work on this project and realise it, so that they can see who they can start an idea and see it through, how their voices can be hear. The process used in this project is democratic, so the learning has already started, we have developed the hope that change is possible, and this project will form the start of turning the hope for a better and more democratic life for young people into a reality. The impact of this project on the participants, the youth involved, the youth in the communities and target groups, will be the creation of a society of young people from all walks of life, active in their communities, active in the democratic process, active in policy reform, active citizens and active EU citizens. The impact will be more young people voting at elections. Young people contributing and working towards policy reform. Young people building their societies and the same young people building the EU of tomorrow.
