Educational sports as a tool for students´ inclusion

Description

"EDUCATIONAL SPORTS AS A TOOL FOR STUDENTS´ INCLUSION Curwen Primary School (London) and Santa Clara School (Cuéllar-Segovia) come together in this project to achieve an improvement in the inclusion of disadvantaged students through school sport. The C.E.I.P. Santa Clara has recently been recognized as a center of reference for students with motor disability, thanks to its facilities and educational project. Curwen Primary School has extensive experience in the inclusion of students with disabilities. In this sense, both entities have considered this association to be extremely positive. The main aims of this project are the following: -To use schools sports in order to develop the social, civic and intercultural competence and use schools sports as a means to tackle social inequalities as well as early school leaving, promoting social inclusion. -To know and practice the most innovative school sports of U. K. and Spain, used and designed for cooperation and inclusion, implementing the use of linguistic competence as a means of communication between participants. -To promote and increase the language skills of the students as a communicative tool during the school exchanges (encouraging formal and informal learning) as well as to encourage knowledge of the cultural heritage of the environment of London and Segovia, thus contributing to the European cultural heritage. The students are the protagonists of both centers. With the support of teachers and the institutions they will carry out joint activities and cultural, linguistic, and school exchanges during two school years (2018-2019 and 2019-2020). In an indirect way, nearly 1.600 students from both centers will benefit from this project. It will also directly benefit senior pupils in a number of 60 in Curwen Primary School and 76 in the C.E.I.P. Santa Clara, between the ages of 10 and 12. In order to achieve these goals we will develop the following activities: - Sports activities (2018-2019): during the first school year it will be planned activities to work sports of inclusion as Datchball Colpbol, or Ultimate; sports which have emerged to promote the educational values of cooperation, respect and inclusion. - Sports activities (2019-2020): during the second school year it will be carried out activities related to sports for the disabled and Paralympic games aimed at the inclusion, taking advantage of the condition of Olympic year of 2020. We will count on athletes and experts collaboration in Paralympic sports. - Joint activities of the school calendar as: Halloween, World Book Day, European School Sport Day, Charity Race of U.N.I.C.E.F. ""Drops for Niger"". -Joint classroom activities between students from the different centers: letters and postcards, communications by means of eTwinning and Skype, video presentations, book, literary competitions traveler sets... - School exchanges of short duration as the culmination of the work of each school year that will take place in June. Students in London will visit the C.E.I.P. Santa Clara likewise students of Cuellar will visit The Curwen Primary School, during school hours in the classroom and performing the activities detailed in this project on school and sports for the disabled. School hours will share cultural visits and activities aimed at the voicing of European cultural heritage and language exchange among the participating students. We will use a participatory, inclusive and encouraging project work liable to students in the planning and management of projects such as the organization of tournaments between both centers sports learned, the planning of the cultural activities that take place in the school hours exchanges or the management of different contests between the centers (such as stories or Christmas…). Among the results we hope to achieve: - Developing the civic, social competence and intercultural education of students through sports activities, improving the inclusion of the most disadvantaged students - Improving the language competence of the students in English as a second language. - Being aware of the use of sports and physical activities to promote inclusion and equality. - Knowing another different educational system, discovering a new way of seeing the world and the opportunity to put into practice everything they learned previously with the educational projects of the centers involved. We hope many more students will benefit from these such programmes in the future, and thus allowing it to be a tool for the inclusion in the educational life of disadvantaged groups and/or students with disabilities. The consolidation of the relationship between the centers will provide students with a functional use of the second language."
