A FUNctional understanding of FIre REsilience across Amazonian forests (FUNFIRE)

Description

The Amazon on fire! What is her future? Recent years have seen an unprecedented amount and intensity of fires in the Amazon. In this study we investigate the resilience of these forests to fire. We assess which tree characteristics are important for the resilience, and how this resilience varies along gradients of climate and soil type within the Amazon. Such knowledge is essential to design management and conservation strategies to effectively protect, use and restore these forests, and hence to assure the future of the Amazon ecosystem.
