Advantages and disadvantages of off-grid system implementation in rural areas: a review

Abstract

This article addresses the theme of off-grid systems to generate energy in rural areas with the development of new technologies to meet the high demand for electricity consumption in the world. In view of this energy deficit for the most remote, the project now being developed tends to address this issue in more depth, with the aim of describing a feasibility study on the use of off-grid systems in rural areas, showing their advantages and disadvantages. The area of photovoltaic microgeneration has stood out, both for being a clean, efficient and renewable source of energy, as well as for its profitability period and costs compared to other energy sources available in the market. Although this source of solar energy is divided into two areas, on-grid and off-grid, the first being connected to the distribution grid and therefore not being viable for remote areas, it is clear that off-grid systems tend to become a technically viable option for cases in which the population is deprived of access to the energy distribution network of the concessionaires, since they can generate energy without being connected to the distribution network and storing the energy generated in batteries.
