Energy: On the Way for an Innovative and Sustainable Development Model

Abstract

Economic emancipation depends on energy accessibility, affordability, and sustainability for now and for future generations, mainly because of the crucial role played by energy services. For the trend to continue there is an urgent need to secure clean, modern, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy sources for all people and all societies, while reducing emissions from greenhouse gasses and other carbon footprints linked with energy. All energy resources, whether renewable or nonrenewable, are harvested from the environment and as a result impact the environment. The paper highlights the need to explore energy resources in a sustainable manner. The study further evaluates existing metrics to track and ascertain energy sustainability in a sustainable development context. In methodological terms, the authors conduct a literature review to enable the authors to arrive with best suggestions. Several factors were considered as pragmatic steps needed to achieve energy sustainability. Energy access, energy sustainability indicators, and innovation were appraised to aid energy sustainability for now and for future generations.
