Design and fabrication of an LED lantern based on light condensing technology

This paper discussed the design and fabrication of a light emitting diode (LED) lantern that is expected to be used as a spot light. A 29 W LED package was used, whose driving current and voltage were 2 A and 14.5 V, respectively. It was driven using a boost circuit board that was supplied by two series-connected rechargeable batteries. Light condensing was achieved by applying a Fresnel lens with a focal length and a diameter of 120 mm. The lantern had five modes including the high, medium, and low output, as well as strobe and SOS mode. The experiment results showed that the maximum luminous intensity of this lantern was 1 × 106 cd and the beam angle was 1.1°. Its correlated colour temperature and colour rendering index were 6500 K and 70, respectively. In addition, the junction temperature was maintained below 55 °C.
