Characterization of the transfer function of powerline channels with four conductors

Abstract
The knowledge of the transfer characteristics of power line channels is fundamental for reliable data transmission using power line communications. In this paper, the transfer function of a four-conductor power line cable is analytically discussed and measurements of a straight power line cable are given for verification. Starting from multi-conductor transmission line theory, this paper first determines the line parameters and obtains an expression for the transfer function of a straight power line. Finally a complex power delivery network is simplified based on the transmission matrix method.
