Abstract

[EN] This Master s Final Project focuses on the study of one of the main challenges of temporary exhibitions: their environmental impact. Thanks to the collaboration with the la Caixa Foundation, it has been possible to examine one of its temporary exhibitions of the 2024 season, Interior Berlanga , during its exhibition period at CaixaForum Valencia. First, a preliminary investigation was carried out to contextualize concepts related to both sustainability and the climate emergency, as well as museology and temporary exhibitions, analyzing their origins, their relevance in today s society, and their interrelationships. Based on this theoretical framework, the urgent need to implement changes in the way these activities are produced has been reflected upon. After these initial reflections, the study focused on comprehensively analyzing all the processes involved in the creation and development of the Interior Berlanga exhibition, using it as a case study to promote and highlight good practices and suggest sustainability improvements where considered necessary. By linking theoretical knowledge with a practical case, it was possible to verify how the foundation is approaching the production of its temporary exhibitions, which allowed new sustainable strategies applicable to the reality of the cultural sector to be configured. This work shows an in-depth transversal study focused on improving the sustainability of temporary exhibitions, in addition to valuing the great potential of the art and culture sector and its professionals as agents of change to advance positively towards a more responsible and sustainable society.
