Abstract

O mercado grossista de eletricidade de Portugal e Ibérico (MIBEL) tem registado um aumento da penetração das energias renováveis, especialmente da energia eólica e solar, que contribuem para a descarbonização do setor elétrico e para a redução da dependência energética externa. No entanto, as fontes renováveis são intermitentes e variáveis, o que cria desafios para a gestão da rede elétrica e para a garantia da qualidade e da continuidade do serviço. Neste contexto, os serviços de sistema são essenciais para assegurar o equilíbrio entre a oferta e a procura de eletricidade em tempo real, bem como para manter os parâmetros técnicos da rede, como a frequência e a tensão. Os serviços de sistema são prestados por agentes que dispõem de capacidade de geração ou de consumo flexível, e podem ser ativados pelo operador do sistema, para responder às necessidades do sistema elétrico.A The Navigator Company tem uma postura de liderança e inovação no mercado de eletricidade, procurando otimizar a sua eficiência energética, reduzir as suas emissões de CO2 e diversificar as suas fontes de energia. A empresa investe também na mobilidade elétrica, tendo instalado vários postos de carregamento para veículos elétricos nas suas instalações. Possui uma forte aposta na eletricidade verde, através da produção de energia elétrica a partir de fontes renováveis e com baixas emissões de gases de efeito estufa. Para isso tem vários projetos em curso para aumentar a sua capacidade de produção de eletricidade verde, como a instalação de painéis fotovoltaicos nas suas fábricas e a participação em consórcios para o desenvolvimento de hidrogénio verde. A empresa pretende assim contribuir para a transição energética em Portugal e na Europa, reduzindo a sua pegada ambiental e reforçando a sua competitividade no mercado global.Perante estes cenários surgiu a necessidade de explorar as oportunidades de negócio associadas ao desenvolvimento da tecnologia de armazenamento de energia em baterias.

The wholesale electricity market in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula (MIBEL) has seen an increase in the penetration of renewable energies, especially wind and solar energy, which contribute to the decarbonization of the electricity sector and the reduction of external energy dependence. However, renewable sources are intermittent and variable, creating challenges for managing the power grid and ensuring the quality and continuity of service. In this context, system services are essential to ensure the balance between electricity supply and demand in real time, as well as to maintain technical parameters of the grid, such as frequency and voltage. System services are provided by agents that have flexible generation or consumption capacity and can be activated by the system operator to meet the needs of the power system.The Navigator Company has a leadership and innovation stance in the electricity market, seeking to optimize its energy efficiency, reduce its CO2 emissions, and diversify its energy sources. The company also invests in electric mobility, having installed several electric vehicle charging stations at its facilities. It has a strong commitment to green electricity, through the production of electricity from renewable sources and with low greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, it has several projects underway to increase its green electricity production capacity, such as installing photovoltaic panels in its factories and participating in consortia for the development of green hydrogen. The company aims to contribute to the energy transition in Portugal and Europe, reducing its environmental footprint and strengthening its competitiveness in the global market.Considering these scenarios, there has been a need to explore business opportunities associated with the development of battery energy storage technology.
