De la academia a los medios: estrategias de comunicación social ante el cambio climático

Abstract

El análisis de los elementos básicos que caracterizan la percepción pública de la ciencia y la tecnología en Europa muestra un claro declive en el papel de los medios tradicionales como agentes implicados en la divulgación científica, aún más acusado en ámbitos específicos de debate CTS como las biotecnologías agroalimentarias. Este trabajo analiza dichos indicadores en relación con el tratamiento de los problemas asociados al cambio climático y las dificultades para evaluar las estrategias, canales, formatos y encuadres más apropiados para dar cuenta de la complejidad de elementos (científico-técnicos, económicos, políticos, éticos…) implicados en el debate. Se persigue identificar tendencias en la evolución de las actitudes, creencias, motivaciones y conductas según destinatarios potenciales, para promover procesos de divulgación y sensibilización que puedan contribuir a generar opiniones informadas y críticas, capaces de tener algún impacto en actitudes, hábitos de consumo o estilos de vida. Un objetivo inviable sin aproximarse primero a la relación compleja entre comunicación científica, alfabetización científica y apoyo público a las políticas ambientales, en un contexto caracterizado por (1) la diversidad de receptores de información, con niveles de alfabetización, intereses y actitudes muy diversos; (2) la multiplicidad de canales de comunicación; (3) el desfase de los canales unidireccionales, propios de los medios tradicionales; y (4) las dificultades para construir nuevas audiencias cualificadas para adoptar decisiones social y ambientalmente responsables.
