Abstract

La implementación efectiva de estrategias de adaptación para contrarrestar los impactos del cambio climático sobre los ecosistemas, su biodiversidad y los medios de subsistencia requiere una comprensión clara de cómo el cambio climático influirá en el funcionamiento y la distribución futura de los ecosistemas. El cambio climático afectará a la precipitación efectiva y a la producción primaria en los sistemas naturales, con consecuencias a corto plazo y efectos a más largo plazo debido a la degradación. La pérdida de conectividad entre los fragmentos de los ecosistemas nativos y la introducción de especies invasoras, unidas a la fuerte variabilidad climática, amenazan la biodiversidad y las funciones de los ecosistemas. La espiral de degradación ambiental resultante agota progresivamente los servicios de los ecosistemas y reduce su capacidad para adaptarse al cambio climático.
