Análisis y priorización de alternativas de producción sostenible para las comunidades de la reserva de la biósfera maya en Guatemala

Abstract

Este informe hace parte de los productos del proyecto EU DeSIRA: “Cinco Grandes Bosques de Mesoamérica: Una iniciativa regional para el clima, la biodiversidad y las personas”, liderado por Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). En él, se presentan los hallazgos de un ejercicio de análisis y priorización de alternativas productivas sostenibles a ser fortalecidas con las comunidades de la Reserva de la Biósfera Maya (RBM), en el departamento de Petén, Guatemala. El informe presenta un análisis y calificación de cuatro alternativas productivas frente a siete criterios de evaluación, orientados a identificar su potencial de mercado y alineación con objetivos ambientales y sociales, así como sus principales oportunidades y limitaciones. Las alternativas seleccionadas fueron apicultura, pimienta gorda (Pimenta dioica), ramón (Brosimum alicastrum) y granos básicos (maíz y frijol). Los criterios para la evaluación de estas alternativas incluyeron su potencial de mercado, preferencias de las comunidades, potencial de generación de ingresos, compatibilidad y sinergias ambientales, equidad social, entorno habilitador y potencial de mejoramiento de la nutrición.
