Abstract

The use of solar energy to replace energy from fossil fuels has become a viable alternative in recent years. The wide variety of passive strategies for architectural design and the decrease in cost of systems for the transformation of solar energy has encouraged the generation of projects of different scales, leading to the need for tools to evaluate their viability. This work provides a tool to determine the total solar radiation on the exposed surface of buildings, giving results in graphical and numerical form. This tool can be executed by Rhinoceros 3D software. It has been developed with a methodology, which can be understood in 2 general parts: 1. Simulation of climatic effects and 2. Simulation of solar radiation in geometries. Finally, the use of the tool in 3 hospital establishment located in the city of La Plata is presented. Its applicability for studies of different scales (urban and building) is verified, noting that it complies with the following characteristics: user-friendly, compatible and accessible.
