The dissolution of ilmenite in HClH2O, HClCH3OH and HClC2H5OH systems — A theoretical approach

Abstract

Abstract Comparative leaching studies of Tellness (Norway) ilmenite concentrate in HClH 2 O, HClCH 3 OH and HClC 2 H 5 OH systems at room temperature are presented. Better results for the dissolution of iron in ilmenite, with an increase in the amount of titanium dissolved, are obtained for HClCH 3 OH and HClC 2 H 5 OH systems as compared with HClH 2 O system. In contrast to the HClH 2 O system, the HCl-alcohol systems show poor selectivity towards the dissolution of magnesium in the samples. A theoretical model is developed for the leaching capability of the systems and the validity of this method is checked by using a first order multivariable linear model.
