; Natural ecosystems transformation in agroecosystems not only alters its structure but also its functionality. The need to evaluate and monitor these functional changes has led to the development and implementation of a large number of indicators of human impact due to agricultural activities. This paper develops a theoretical framework for the assessment of agroecosystems through the analysis of energy flows. In particular, the approach is based on the use of energy or ...

[EN] Currently, the climatic situation requires alternative sources of fuel to generate both energy and high-added value compounds, which allow a drastic reduction in greenhouse gasses emission. Biomass has all the requisites to become that alternative. 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) is a platform compound with biological origin, biomass derivative, whose oxidation gives a wide variety of furanic compounds with high applicability. In this work, HMF oxidation reaction is studied using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in a basic media and mild conditions catalyzed by monometallic Pd and Au and bimetallic PdAu nanoparticles supported onto carbon and, in the first case, onto Al2O3 too. Starting with Pd nanoparticles, C and Al2O3 supports are compared; choosing Pd@C catalyst to perform a research of the optimal condition reactions and, once found, to study the effect of Au introduction in the material.

; Temperate regions are the areas of greatest population in the world, so theirecosystems are subject to human ...

ABSTRACT: Ryegrass seeding may be limited by the lack of farming machinery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the establishment of three ryegrass (Lolium sp.) genotypes (annual diploid, annual tetraploid, and hybrid tetraploid) in kikuyu grass pastures (Pennisetum clandestinum) with seeding based on zero tillage. The first agronomic evaluation of ryegrass was conducted 60 days after seeding and then every 35 days until the fourth grazing. For data analysis we used a linear mixed model with grass genotype, topography, and number of cuts as fixed effects. The random effect was the farm. Biomass and establishment percentage were better in the high area (flat terrain) for the three genotypes (p<0.05). Biomass of annual diploid ryegrass was higher in the high and slope area (p<0.05). The leaf/stem ratio, height, length, and width of the last and fully elongated leaf were statistically significant (p<0.05) between the different cuts for all genotypes, showing that grass growth increases with the number of cuts when rational grazing management is provided. The results of this study support the conclusion that greater adaptation of diploid ryegrass associated with Kikuyu grass positively impacts biomass production under zero tillage. ; Natural ecosystems transformation in agroecosystems not only alters its structure but also its functionality.
