Changes in temperature and hence environment are a danger to the survival of the whole planet.Climate change is unprecedented not just for its impact, but also in response to this challenge. Effective climate policies are a great solution to encourage low-carbon resources. This paper evaluates how policymakers can employ carbon taxes to promote a future with more sustainable energy sources.The paper provides an overview of this research background, underlining both urgency for climate action and the need for policy interventions that promote clean and inexpensive alternatives to fossil fuels.It looks into the scientific basis of climate change –how greenhouse gasses become warmer and its anticipated effect on natural and human systems.The core of this paper lies in anthropogenic carbon dioxide taxes, analyzing its main principles, strategies for implementation and the economic logic behind using market forces to check carbon-intense activities.The analysis evaluates various carbon pricing systems, such as cap-and-trade and direct tax structures, and explores their respective advantages, challenges and practical applications in the real world.The impact of carbon taxes is studied comprehensively from economic, environmental and social standpoints. The paper examines potential effects on patterns of energy consumption, investments in low-carbon technologies, job creation, and the overall competitiveness of industries.It also considers the profitability consequences of carbon pricing policies and potentially of measures to lighten regressive effects on vulnerable populations.It sums up main harvests and policy pointer for creation of carbon tax systems that own advantages, covering for their disadvantages, international cooperation. The research paper emphasizes the position of carbon pricing in achieving global climate goals and to a fair low-carbon energy future.

La récente série thématique sur les prestataires proches de la communauté publiée dans cette revue rassemble 14 articles provenant de contextes variés et qui utilisent une gamme de méthodes de recherche. La série illustre clairement l'accent renouvelé et l'enthousiasme suscité par le potentiel des prestataires proches de la communauté (CTC) dans la réalisation de la couverture sanitaire universelle et le soutien aux objectifs de développement durable. Cet éditorial aborde les thèmes clés qui ont émergé de cet ensemble de documents riches et variés et réfléchit aux implications pour la programmation fondée sur des données probantes. Nous sommes à une étape critique dans l'élaboration des programmes et des politiques de la CCT, ce qui nécessite la création et la communication de nouvelles connaissances pour assurer la sécurité, la durabilité, la qualité et l'accessibilité des services, ainsi que leurs liens avec le système de santé au sens large et les communautés desservies par les CCT. La reciente serie temática sobre proveedores cercanos a la comunidad publicada en esta revista reúne 14 artículos de diversos contextos y que utilizan una variedad de métodos de investigación. La serie ilustra claramente el renovado énfasis y entusiasmo sobre el potencial de los proveedores cercanos a la comunidad (CTC) para lograr la cobertura universal de salud y apoyar los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible. Este editorial analiza los temas clave que han surgido de este rico y variado conjunto de documentos y reflexiona sobre las implicaciones para la programación basada en la evidencia. Estamos en una etapa crítica en el desarrollo de la programación y la política de CTC, que requiere la creación y comunicación de nuevos conocimientos para garantizar la seguridad, la sostenibilidad, la calidad y la accesibilidad de los servicios, y sus vínculos tanto con el sistema de salud en general como con las comunidades a las que sirven los CTC. The recent thematic series on close-to-community providers published in this journal brings together 14 papers from a variety of contexts and that use a range of research methods. The series clearly illustrates the renewed emphasis and excitement about the potential of close-to-community (CTC) providers in realising universal health coverage and supporting the sustainable development goals. This editorial discusses key themes that have emerged from this rich and varied set of papers and reflect on the implications for evidence-based programming. Moreover, this is a largely under-researched topic, especially within the climate change adaptation discourse, but is increasingly coming to the attention of scientists and policymakers for sustainable adaptation planning. So far, there exists hardly any conceptual and methodical guidelines to study environmental non-migration. Considering this research gap, this paper explores environmental non-migration based on the notion that factors of livelihood resilience can partly explain the decision to non-migration. Here, livelihood resilience is seen as an outcome of the interactions between societal and environmental conditions of an individual household. These conditions inform the decisions (to stay or to migrate) taken in case of a hazard or creeping environmental change. Their influence generalises the spectrum of migration decision-making (to stay or to migrate), which is conceptualised by four broad outcomes categorised into voluntary and involuntary, and non-migrants and migrants. This analytical concept is operationalised through an empirical example in southwest coastal Bangladesh. The results suggest that the Livelihood Resilience Index (LRI) relates to the voluntary nature of migration decisions once they are made. Still, only a household’s resilience cannot predict the decisions the household makes to stay or migrate. The paper concludes that the proposed analytical concept, with its exemplary factors, maybe an initial means to holistically explore migration decisions in the context of natural hazards and climate and environmental change. However, environmental non-migration remains complex and multi-faceted, and its assessment requires deeper examination at various scales.

As we all know, Bangladesh is running out of indigenous natural gas, Government of Bangladesh (GOB) to think about alternative sources of fuel in near future. In this regard coal and renewable energy can be the best solution to meet energy crisis in long term. Considering the facts Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited is also stepping ahead to increase its capacity while keeping the generation maximum by proper operation, maintenance and overhauling the existing units.

It is observed that climate change has become a burning issue jeopardizing the agricultural production in the country. Considering the issue, adoption of climate smart agriculture (CSA) is indispensable for mitigating climate change by reducing emissions, capturing the atmospheric carbon and storing it in biomass and soil. The study reviewed the literature to evaluate the potentiality of agroforestry practices as climate smart agriculture to mitigate climate change impacts. Agroforestry has traditionally contributed to climate resilience in Bangladesh by integrating trees and/or crops into different land use practices. Agroforestry systems enhance resilience to climate change through increasing tree cover, carbon sequestration, increasing production, reducing threats to associated crops, creating favourable microclimate to support associated crops, reducing harvest pressure on natural forests, conserving biodiversity and cycling nutrients. Globally 23 countries recognize agroforestry as a mitigation priority, whereas 29 as an adaptation priority. Bangladesh has potential to expand agroforestry practices to mitigate climate change and boost food security. From socioeconomic and ecological point of views as well, agroforestry offers strong potential to evolve climate smart agricultural practices supporting food security, and adaptation and mitigation. Nazrul Islam; MFA Anik; Mohammad Eyakub Ali;The present study was carried out to investigate the potential of AM (Arbuscular mycorrhiza) fungi alone and in combination with bioinoculants i.e., Rhizobium to find out the best combination on dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, and yield, along with their biocontrol against groundnut foot and root rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii. The study was carried out under pot culture conditions in the net house of the Soil Science Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur in 2020 and 2021. The experiment was designed in RCBD with eight treatments and four replications. Peat-based rhizobial inoculum (BARI RAh-801) was used @ 1.5 kg ha-1 in this experiment. Soil-based AM inoculum containing approximately 252 spores and infected root pieces of the host plant was used in pot-1. The treatments were Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM), Rhizobium, AM+Rhizobium, Sclerotium rolfsii, Sclerotium rolfsii+AM, Sclerotium rolfsii+Rhizobium, Sclerotium rolfsii+AM+Rhizobium and Control. Dual inoculation (AM+Rhizobium) significantly increased dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, yield, and yield attributes of groundnut compared to single inoculation or other treatments. The result showed that dual inoculation (AMF+Rhizobium) increased nut yield (59.61% in 2020 and 26.32% in 2021) and stover yield (23.21% in 2020 and 33.74% in 2021) compared to control. On the contrary, Sclerotium rolfsii+AMF+Rhizobium increased nut yield (65.50% in 2020 and 52.94% in 2021) and stover yield (36.45% in 2020 and 99.35% in 2021) compared to only Sclerotium rolfsii treatment. The plant dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, nutrient concentration and uptake were increased by dual inoculation under pathogenic and non-pathogenic conditions leading to an improved yield of groundnut. Therefore, AMF species and its combination with rhizobial inoculum were significant in the formation and effectiveness of AM fungi symbiosis. They also increased yield and reduced the incidence of foot and root rot disease in groundnut plants.

Several econometric tools were applied to gauge the nexus, such as linear and nonlinear unit root tests, Bayer and Hacked combined cointegration test, ARDL and NARDLfor discovering symmetry and symmetry effects on environmental sustainability and non-granger causality test for directional association. Furthermore, the study performed Fully-modified OLS, Dynamic OLS and Canonical Cointegrating Regression (CCR) for empirical estimation robustness. The long-run association in the empirical model was established with Bayer and Hacked cointegration test, Fpass, Wpass and tBDM test. For the KEC test, the coefficients of Y2 were exposed negative statistically significant association with environmental sustainability in both countries. Thus Our empirical analysis validates the EKC hypothesis for both Russia and India. According to ARDL estimation, renewable energy and environmental innovation have negative. In contrast, trade is positively associated with environmental sustainability in Russia and India. Moreover, the standard Wald test confirmed asymmetric association both in the long and short run. Our empirical approach allows us to encourage policymakers in Russia and India to introduce sector-specific environmental reforms, provide continuous support to environmental technologies, reduce subsidies on nonrenewable energy and introduce green trade policies to procure sustainable development.

Kamal Pasha; Sagar Mozumder; Kornia Chakma;In our research work, we surveyed Jhum cultivation of Langadu Upazila, Rangamati, and Babuchara, Dighinala in Khagrachari and collected data based on interviews. This survey was conducted from August 2020 to December 2020. The objectives of this survey were to understand the impact of Jhum cultivation on environmental degradation, and we also reviewed the existing crops production system in that hilly area which gave us an idea about the current situation of Jhum cultivation. Data was collected in three parts, we collected general information from Jhum landowners by a survey questionnaire, demonstrate the study area with photographs, and direct field observation was used to get the idea of the current situation. People with different age groups and different educational qualifications took part in our survey. Most of the respondents were < 50 years but very few of those respondents were uneducated and it is observed that 10 persons out of 30 were educated. From the survey, we got to know that about 67% of the framers are practicing Jhum for more than 6 years. And we found out that about 30 types of yields are filled with Jhum Chas whereas previously they used to cultivate only 15 to 20 types of yields that means the soil is being used more than the previous time. But surprisingly about 86% of our local respondents think that because of Jhum cultivation they are facing deforestation and about 60% of them think that they lose different types of bird and animal species because of Jhum cultivation, also about 40% of them think that they are facing environmental issues because of Jhum. Most importantly we found out that overall, 94% of people think that population growth is the main culprit for the overly practiced Jhum cultivation which is currently practicing on the perpetual territory. So, from this research, we can identify that the local people are aware of the adverse effect of Jhum cultivation but they don’t have alternatives that is why they are still relying on this cultivation process.

There are changes in extreme weather events. Impact of climate change resulted feminization of agricultural practices. Number of development interventions have been taken to skill the rural community to take adaptation action on agriculture. Development interventions taken in the char land of Dimla, Nilphamari were studied from June 2018 to December 2019 to identify the capacity of climate change adaptation interventions using the information and communication technology to empower women. Mobile Phone Use Index study found that nearly three-fourth of rural female farmers were capable to manage knowledge on climate change adaptation if their access to device was ensured. Inclusion of women in the technology playing a very important role towards transformative leadership. Nearly 85% of the women farmers have high environmental awareness; likely to be contributory to adaptation knowledge management. Community themselves identified them more resilient comparing with areas where promotion of technology is not supported. Institutes with the capacity of information technology promotion could be the hub of resilience knowledge management for women, but external supports are required there. Self-motivation supported by project intervention has created notable capacity of a good number of women who could be the mentor of women transformative leadership towards resilience. Int. J. Agril. La reciente serie temática sobre proveedores cercanos a la comunidad publicada en esta revista reúne 14 artículos de diversos contextos y que utilizan una variedad de métodos de investigación. La serie ilustra claramente el renovado énfasis y entusiasmo sobre el potencial de los proveedores cercanos a la comunidad (CTC) para lograr la cobertura universal de salud y apoyar los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible. Este editorial analiza los temas clave que han surgido de este rico y variado conjunto de documentos y reflexiona sobre las implicaciones para la programación basada en la evidencia. Estamos en una etapa crítica en el desarrollo de la programación y la política de CTC, que requiere la creación y comunicación de nuevos conocimientos para garantizar la seguridad, la sostenibilidad, la calidad y la accesibilidad de los servicios, y sus vínculos tanto con el sistema de salud en general como con las comunidades a las que sirven los CTC. The recent thematic series on close-to-community providers published in this journal brings together 14 papers from a variety of contexts and that use a range of research methods. The series clearly illustrates the renewed emphasis and excitement about the potential of close-to-community (CTC) providers in realising universal health coverage and supporting the sustainable development goals. This editorial discusses key themes that have emerged from this rich and varied set of papers and reflect on the implications for evidence-based programming. Moreover, this is a largely under-researched topic, especially within the climate change adaptation discourse, but is increasingly coming to the attention of scientists and policymakers for sustainable adaptation planning. So far, there exists hardly any conceptual and methodical guidelines to study environmental non-migration. Considering this research gap, this paper explores environmental non-migration based on the notion that factors of livelihood resilience can partly explain the decision to non-migration. Here, livelihood resilience is seen as an outcome of the interactions between societal and environmental conditions of an individual household. These conditions inform the decisions (to stay or to migrate) taken in case of a hazard or creeping environmental change. Their influence generalises the spectrum of migration decision-making (to stay or to migrate), which is conceptualised by four broad outcomes categorised into voluntary and involuntary, and non-migrants and migrants. This analytical concept is operationalised through an empirical example in southwest coastal Bangladesh. The results suggest that the Livelihood Resilience Index (LRI) relates to the voluntary nature of migration decisions once they are made. Still, only a household’s resilience cannot predict the decisions the household makes to stay or migrate. The paper concludes that the proposed analytical concept, with its exemplary factors, maybe an initial means to holistically explore migration decisions in the context of natural hazards and climate and environmental change. However, environmental non-migration remains complex and multi-faceted, and its assessment requires deeper examination at various scales.

It is observed that climate change has become a burning issue jeopardizing the agricultural production in the country. Considering the issue, adoption of climate smart agriculture (CSA) is indispensable for mitigating climate change by reducing emissions, capturing the atmospheric carbon and storing it in biomass and soil. The study reviewed the literature to evaluate the potentiality of agroforestry practices as climate smart agriculture to mitigate climate change impacts. Agroforestry has traditionally contributed to climate resilience in Bangladesh by integrating trees and/or crops into different land use practices. Agroforestry systems enhance resilience to climate change through increasing tree cover, carbon sequestration, increasing production, reducing threats to associated crops, creating favourable microclimate to support associated crops, reducing harvest pressure on natural forests, conserving biodiversity and cycling nutrients. Globally 23 countries recognize agroforestry as a mitigation priority, whereas 29 as an adaptation priority. Bangladesh has potential to expand agroforestry practices to mitigate climate change and boost food security. From socioeconomic and ecological point of views as well, agroforestry offers strong potential to evolve climate smart agricultural practices supporting food security, and adaptation and mitigation. Nazrul Islam; MFA Anik; Mohammad Eyakub Ali;The present study was carried out to investigate the potential of AM (Arbuscular mycorrhiza) fungi alone and in combination with bioinoculants i.e., Rhizobium to find out the best combination on dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, and yield, along with their biocontrol against groundnut foot and root rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii. The study was carried out under pot culture conditions in the net house of the Soil Science Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur in 2020 and 2021. The experiment was designed in RCBD with eight treatments and four replications. Peat-based rhizobial inoculum (BARI RAh-801) was used @ 1.5 kg ha-1 in this experiment. Soil-based AM inoculum containing approximately 252 spores and infected root pieces of the host plant was used in pot-1. The treatments were Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM), Rhizobium, AM+Rhizobium, Sclerotium rolfsii, Sclerotium rolfsii+AM, Sclerotium rolfsii+Rhizobium, Sclerotium rolfsii+AM+Rhizobium and Control. Dual inoculation (AM+Rhizobium) significantly increased dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, yield, and yield attributes of groundnut compared to single inoculation or other treatments. The result showed that dual inoculation (AMF+Rhizobium) increased nut yield (59.61% in 2020 and 26.32% in 2021) and stover yield (23.21% in 2020 and 33.74% in 2021) compared to control. On the contrary, Sclerotium rolfsii+AMF+Rhizobium increased nut yield (65.50% in 2020 and 52.94% in 2021) and stover yield (36.45% in 2020 and 99.35% in 2021) compared to only Sclerotium rolfsii treatment. The plant dry biomass, nodulation, colonization, nutrient concentration and uptake were increased by dual inoculation under pathogenic and non-pathogenic conditions leading to an improved yield of groundnut. Therefore, AMF species and its combination with rhizobial inoculum were significant in the formation and effectiveness of AM fungi symbiosis. They also increased yield and reduced the incidence of foot and root rot disease in groundnut plants.

Several econometric tools were applied to gauge the nexus, such as linear and nonlinear unit root tests, Bayer and Hacked combined cointegration test, ARDL and NARDLfor discovering symmetry and symmetry effects on environmental sustainability and non-granger causality test for directional association. Furthermore, the study performed Fully-modified OLS, Dynamic OLS and Canonical Cointegrating Regression (CCR) for empirical estimation robustness. Variables properties assessment with unit root test established order of integration after first difference and nonlinearity confirmed with nonlinear unit root tests. The long-run association in the empirical model was established with Bayer and Hacked cointegration test, Fpass, Wpass and tBDM test. For the KEC test, the coefficients of Y2 were exposed negative statistically significant association with environmental sustainability in both countries. Thus Our empirical analysis validates the EKC hypothesis for both Russia and India. According to ARDL estimation, renewable energy and environmental innovation have negative. In contrast, trade is positively associated with environmental sustainability in Russia and India. Moreover, the standard Wald test confirmed asymmetric association both in the long and short run. Our empirical approach allows us to encourage policymakers in Russia and India to introduce sector-specific environmental reforms, provide continuous support to environmental technologies, reduce subsidies on nonrenewable energy and introduce green trade policies to procure sustainable development.

Kamal Pasha; Sagar Mozumder; Kornia Chakma;In our research work, we surveyed Jhum cultivation of Langadu Upazila, Rangamati, and Babuchara, Dighinala in Khagrachari and collected data based on interviews. This survey was conducted from August 2020 to December 2020. The objectives of this survey were to understand the impact of Jhum cultivation on environmental degradation, and we also reviewed the existing crops production system in that hilly area which gave us an idea about the current situation of Jhum cultivation. Data was collected in three parts, we collected general information from Jhum landowners by a survey questionnaire, demonstrate the study area with photographs, and direct field observation was used to get the idea of the current situation. People with different age groups and different educational qualifications took part in our survey. Most of the respondents were < 50 years but very few of those respondents were uneducated and it is observed that 10 persons out of 30 were educated. From the survey, we got to know that about 67% of the framers are practicing Jhum for more than 6 years. And we found out that about 30 types of yields are filled with Jhum Chas whereas previously they used to cultivate only 15 to 20 types of yields that means the soil is being used more than the previous time. But surprisingly about 86% of our local respondents think that because of Jhum cultivation they are facing deforestation and about 60% of them think that they lose different types of bird and animal species because of Jhum cultivation, also about 40% of them think that they are facing environmental issues because of Jhum. Most importantly we found out that overall, 94% of people think that population growth is the main culprit for the overly practiced Jhum cultivation which is currently practicing on the perpetual territory. So, from this research, we can identify that the local people are aware of the adverse effect of Jhum cultivation but they don’t have alternatives that is why they are still relying on this cultivation process.

There are changes in extreme weather events. Impact of climate change resulted feminization of agricultural practices. Number of development interventions have been taken to skill the rural community to take adaptation action on agriculture. Development interventions taken in the char land of Dimla, Nilphamari were studied from June 2018 to December 2019 to identify the capacity of climate change adaptation interventions using the information and communication technology to empower women. Mobile Phone Use Index study found that nearly three-fourth of rural female farmers were capable to manage knowledge on climate change adaptation if their access to device was ensured. Inclusion of women in the technology playing a very important role towards transformative leadership. Nearly 85% of the women farmers have high environmental awareness; likely to be contributory to adaptation knowledge management. Community themselves identified them more resilient comparing with areas where promotion of technology is not supported. Institutes with the capacity of information technology promotion could be the hub of resilience knowledge management for women, but external supports are required there. Self-motivation supported by project intervention has created notable capacity of a good number of women who could be the mentor of women transformative leadership towards resilience. Int. J. Agril.
