    Pendant près de 75 ans on a assisté avec l'hévéaculture à l'extension d'un système agroforestier à faible productivité, sans changement technique significatif. Depuis le début des années 1980, un nombre croissant de petits planteurs cherchent à modifier leurs systèmes de culture pour utiliser les variétés sélectionnées à haut potentiel de rendement, multipliées par greffages (clones) et proposées par les projets de développement. Les paysans ne sont pas tous en mesure de mobiliser les financements nécessaires, de maîtriser les nouvelles techniques et de supporter les risques liés à ces changements. Un programme d'expérimentations est en cours afin de mettre au point des techniques nouvelles qui, en utilisant les méthodes de l'agroforesterie, pourraient permettre au plus grand nombre de planteurs d'augmenter leur revenu, tout en préservant au moins partiellement le milieu forestier des régions concernées

    Pour intensifier de manière durable les cultures vivrières dans les zones de terres de barre dégradées au sud du Togo, plusieurs options ont été évaluées avec les paysans. Grâce à des entretiens collectifs de type participatif, sept différents groupes d'exploitants ont procédé à un classement par ordre de préférence de ces différentes options. Parmi cinq variantes d'un paquet MME (Maïs-Mucuna-Engrais minéraux) portées à leur choix, les paysans préfèrent (1) le MME avec un degré de préférence de 66%, à cause de son efficacité en termes de production agronomique; (2) le MM (Maïs-Mucuna sans engrais) avec 57% de degré de préférence pour ceux n'ayant pas de moyens financiers pour l'achat d'engrais et (3) le MMCCE (Maïs- Mucuna à Cycle Court + Engrais) avec 54% de degré de préférence parce qu'il permet une deuxième saison de cultures. En dehors du paquet MME et de ses variantes, d'autres options d'intensification des cultures, Maïs/Haies-vives + fumier (MHF), cultures en couloirs Maïs/Cajanus cajan (Cajanus), haies vives pour la production de biomasse et labour profond ont respectivement obtenu 86%, 79%, 36% et 18% de préférence. Les durabilités écologique, économique et sociologique des options ont aussi été évaluées par les exploitants au moyen de méthodes participatives d'entretiens de groupe. De cette évaluation, il ressort que les trois paquets ayant le plus fort potentiel d'adoption sont: (1) le paquet MME, (2) le paquet MCCE et (3) le paquet MHF. (Résumé d'auteur)

    Une exploitation agricole moyenne se compose de 6 personnes (3 actifs), cultive 2,2 ha, possède 1 bovin, 4 petits ruminants, 0,4 bovin de trait et 0,45 charrue. Les rendements sont relativement faibles: 950 kg/ha de coton, 2 100 kg/ha de maïs, 850 kg/ha de sorgho et 1 800 kg/ha d'arachide coque. La fumure minérale est utilisée surtout sur coton (110 kg/ha de NPK, et 25 kg/ha d'urée) et mais (90 kg/ha de NPK, 80 kg/ha d'urée). La valeur monétaire des productions (vente, autoconsommation, dons) et des activités est estimée à 886 ¿ par exploitation par an, dont 80% pour les productions végétales, 5% pour l'élevage, 15% pour les activités extra-agricoles.     La question du devenir de l’utilisation des ressources énergétiques fossiles se pose aujourd’hui dans un contexte marqué par, d’une part, la question du réchauffement climatique global, et, d’autre part, l’évolution de ces ressources elles-mêmes. L’utilisation des ressources fossiles de molécules hydrocarbonées (hydrocarbures conventionnels mais aussi les ressources non conventionnelles qui font l’objet de cette note) est un contributeur majeur à l’augmentation de la teneur en CO2 dans l’atmosphère, et, à ce titre, un contributeur majeur au réchauffement climatique global. Ce n’est pas un hasard si les divers scénarios étudiés par le IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – concernant l’évolution climatique globale en fonction des émissions de CO2 sont très dépendants des futures décisions des états à propos de l’utilisation des ressources fossiles comme les hydrocarbures. Cet enjeu est illustré Figure 1, issue de travaux du GIEC. Même les scénarios avec une réduction drastique des émissions, conduisant à une teneur en CO2 équivalent comprise entre 430 et 480 ppm, aboutissent à une augmentation de la température moyenne à l’horizon 2100 comprise entre 0.9 et 2.3 °C. Il est clair que la baisse des émissions de CO2 passe par la baisse de l’utilisation des ressources fossiles, ce mémoire doit être lu en gardant à l’esprit cet élément essentiel, il n’est donc certainement pas un plaidoyer pour l’utilisation accrue des ressources fossiles.

    Olympe est un outil de modélisation des exploitations agricoles permettant la simulation de leur fonctionnement et l'analyse prospective sur les revenus en fonction des choix techniques. La souplesse du logiciel Olympe permet d'adapter chaque cas en adaptant selon les cas le niveau de détail et d'analyse. Il permet de simuler différentes évolutions possibles d'une exploitation en fonction de choix des cultures et de décision d'affectation des facteurs de production (capital, travail, foncier) sur une période de 10 ans (et plus si nécessaire). Olympe fournit des prévisions de résultats économiques par système de culture, d'élevage ou d'activité aussi bien qu'au niveau global de l'exploitation, de trésorerie mensuelle, de temps de travaux: c'est donc un instrument à utiliser pour juger de la viabilité d'une exploitation et des choix techniques. Il peut également traiter des ensembles d'exploitations, dans les périmètres irrigués et mesurer ainsi les flux entrées/sorties et les possibilités d'évolution entre types d'exploitation. Un des intérêts du logiciel est de pouvoir réaliser avec le module "aléa" une analyse prospective sur un pas de temps suffisamment long pour mesurer les effets des variations de prix ou de productions sur le revenu global des producteurs, en particulier pour la prise en compte des spécificités des plantations pérennes. Après une réflexion sur l'intérêt de la modélisation sur les exploitations agricoles, sur l'identification des stratégies en fonctions des revenus et des risques attendus, l'objet de cette communication est de montrer la façon de manier le module aléa pour la construction de scénarios probables, ou de fourchettes potentielles de situations en fonction de la volatilité des prix internationaux, ou des accidents climatiques comme une année "El nino". Ces scénarios peuvent être utilisés par les décideurs, développeurs ou bailleurs de fonds pour mieux cadrer les actions des projets de développement futurs ou mieux en mesurer les effets attendus.     Pendant près de 75 ans on a assisté avec l'hévéaculture à l'extension d'un système agroforestier à faible productivité, sans changement technique significatif. Depuis le début des années 1980, un nombre croissant de petits planteurs cherchent à modifier leurs systèmes de culture pour utiliser les variétés sélectionnées à haut potentiel de rendement, multipliées par greffages (clones) et proposées par les projets de développement. Les paysans ne sont pas tous en mesure de mobiliser les financements nécessaires, de maîtriser les nouvelles techniques et de supporter les risques liés à ces changements. Un programme d'expérimentations est en cours afin de mettre au point des techniques nouvelles qui, en utilisant les méthodes de l'agroforesterie, pourraient permettre au plus grand nombre de planteurs d'augmenter leur revenu, tout en préservant au moins partiellement le milieu forestier des régions concernées

    Pour intensifier de manière durable les cultures vivrières dans les zones de terres de barre dégradées au sud du Togo, plusieurs options ont été évaluées avec les paysans. Grâce à des entretiens collectifs de type participatif, sept différents groupes d'exploitants ont procédé à un classement par ordre de préférence de ces différentes options. Parmi cinq variantes d'un paquet MME (Maïs-Mucuna-Engrais minéraux) portées à leur choix, les paysans préfèrent (1) le MME avec un degré de préférence de 66%, à cause de son efficacité en termes de production agronomique; (2) le MM (Maïs-Mucuna sans engrais) avec 57% de degré de préférence pour ceux n'ayant pas de moyens financiers pour l'achat d'engrais et (3) le MMCCE (Maïs- Mucuna à Cycle Court + Engrais) avec 54% de degré de préférence parce qu'il permet une deuxième saison de cultures. En dehors du paquet MME et de ses variantes, d'autres options d'intensification des cultures, Maïs/Haies-vives + fumier (MHF), cultures en couloirs Maïs/Cajanus cajan (Cajanus), haies vives pour la production de biomasse et labour profond ont respectivement obtenu 86%, 79%, 36% et 18% de préférence. Les durabilités écologique, économique et sociologique des options ont aussi été évaluées par les exploitants au moyen de méthodes participatives d'entretiens de groupe. De cette évaluation, il ressort que les trois paquets ayant le plus fort potentiel d'adoption sont: (1) le paquet MME, (2) le paquet MCCE et (3) le paquet MHF. (Résumé d'auteur)

    Une exploitation agricole moyenne se compose de 6 personnes (3 actifs), cultive 2,2 ha, possède 1 bovin, 4 petits ruminants, 0,4 bovin de trait et 0,45 charrue. Les rendements sont relativement faibles: 950 kg/ha de coton, 2 100 kg/ha de maïs, 850 kg/ha de sorgho et 1 800 kg/ha d'arachide coque. La fumure minérale est utilisée surtout sur coton (110 kg/ha de NPK, et 25 kg/ha d'urée) et mais (90 kg/ha de NPK, 80 kg/ha d'urée). La valeur monétaire des productions (vente, autoconsommation, dons) et des activités est estimée à 886 ¿ par exploitation par an, dont 80% pour les productions végétales, 5% pour l'élevage, 15% pour les activités extra-agricoles.     La question du devenir de l’utilisation des ressources énergétiques fossiles se pose aujourd’hui dans un contexte marqué par, d’une part, la question du réchauffement climatique global, et, d’autre part, l’évolution de ces ressources elles-mêmes. L’utilisation des ressources fossiles de molécules hydrocarbonées (hydrocarbures conventionnels mais aussi les ressources non conventionnelles qui font l’objet de cette note) est un contributeur majeur à l’augmentation de la teneur en CO2 dans l’atmosphère, et, à ce titre, un contributeur majeur au réchauffement climatique global. Ce n’est pas un hasard si les divers scénarios étudiés par le IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – concernant l’évolution climatique globale en fonction des émissions de CO2 sont très dépendants des futures décisions des états à propos de l’utilisation des ressources fossiles comme les hydrocarbures. Cet enjeu est illustré Figure 1, issue de travaux du GIEC. Même les scénarios avec une réduction drastique des émissions, conduisant à une teneur en CO2 équivalent comprise entre 430 et 480 ppm, aboutissent à une augmentation de la température moyenne à l’horizon 2100 comprise entre 0.9 et 2.3 °C. Il est clair que la baisse des émissions de CO2 passe par la baisse de l’utilisation des ressources fossiles, ce mémoire doit être lu en gardant à l’esprit cet élément essentiel, il n’est donc certainement pas un plaidoyer pour l’utilisation accrue des ressources fossiles.

    Olympe est un outil de modélisation des exploitations agricoles permettant la simulation de leur fonctionnement et l'analyse prospective sur les revenus en fonction des choix techniques. La souplesse du logiciel Olympe permet d'adapter chaque cas en adaptant selon les cas le niveau de détail et d'analyse. Il permet de simuler différentes évolutions possibles d'une exploitation en fonction de choix des cultures et de décision d'affectation des facteurs de production (capital, travail, foncier) sur une période de 10 ans (et plus si nécessaire). Olympe fournit des prévisions de résultats économiques par système de culture, d'élevage ou d'activité aussi bien qu'au niveau global de l'exploitation, de trésorerie mensuelle, de temps de travaux: c'est donc un instrument à utiliser pour juger de la viabilité d'une exploitation et des choix techniques. Il peut également traiter des ensembles d'exploitations, dans les périmètres irrigués et mesurer ainsi les flux entrées/sorties et les possibilités d'évolution entre types d'exploitation. Un des intérêts du logiciel est de pouvoir réaliser avec le module "aléa" une analyse prospective sur un pas de temps suffisamment long pour mesurer les effets des variations de prix ou de productions sur le revenu global des producteurs, en particulier pour la prise en compte des spécificités des plantations pérennes. Après une réflexion sur l'intérêt de la modélisation sur les exploitations agricoles, sur l'identification des stratégies en fonctions des revenus et des risques attendus, l'objet de cette communication est de montrer la façon de manier le module aléa pour la construction de scénarios probables, ou de fourchettes potentielles de situations en fonction de la volatilité des prix internationaux, ou des accidents climatiques comme une année "El nino". Ces scénarios peuvent être utilisés par les décideurs, développeurs ou bailleurs de fonds pour mieux cadrer les actions des projets de développement futurs ou mieux en mesurer les effets attendus.
