description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2018Publisher:Springer Science and Business Media LLC Authors: Vikram Kumar Kamboj; Ashutosh Bhadoria; In order to achieve paramount economy, hybrid renewable energy sources are gaining importance, as renewable sources are costless. Over the past few years wind energy incorporation drew more consideration in the electricity market, as wind power took an affirmative role in energy saving as well as sinking emission pollutants. Recently developed Grey wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm has conspicuous behavior for verdicting global optima, without getting ensnared in premature convergence. In the proposed research the exploitation phase of the grey wolf optimizer has been further improved using random exploratory search algorithm, which uses perturbed solutions vectors along with previously generated solution vectors. The paper presents a hybrid version of Grey Wolf Optimizer algorithm combined with random exploratory search algorithm (hGWO-RES) for the solution of combinatorial scheduling and dispatch problem of electric power systems. To validate the feasibility of the algorithm, the proposed algorithm has been tested on 23 benchmark problems. To verify the feasibility and efficacy of operation of proposed algorithm on generation scheduling and dispatch of electric power systems, small and medium scale power systems consisting of 7-, 10-, 19-, 20- and 40-generating units systems taken into consideration. Commitment and scheduling pattern has been evaluated with and without wind integration and it has been experimentally founded that proposed hybrid algorithm provides superior solution as compared to other recently reported meta-heuristics search algorithms.

Effects of alkali dosage, concentration of chloroacetic acid on the physical and chemical properties of the CMC products were investigated. It was revealed that the reactants alkali reagent/chloroacetic acid/cellulose at the molar ratio of 4.6:2.8:1and 4:2.5:1, or at the molar ratio of NaOH/ClCH 2 COOH ≈1.6–1.64, resulted in CMC products of relatively high water solubility. The viscosity-average molecular weight M v of these two CMC products obtained at molar ratios of 4.0:2.5:1 and 4.6:2.8:1 is in the range of 1.94 × 10 4 –2.48 × 10 4 g mol −1 , and the average DS of the two products are 0.57 and 0.85, respectively. As the solute concentration is above 2 wt%, the viscosity of the CMC-water solution exhibits nonlinear (exponential) increasing with increasing the solute concentration (typical of non-Newton fluids).

Acidogenic anaerobic fermentation route was explored for the production of bioethanol and volatile fatty acids (VFA) from the press mud (PM) obtained from sugar mill. Slurry was prepared from PM having 10% of total solids and the same was hydrolyzed under acidic thermal conditions. Both press mud slurry (PMS) and pre-treated press mud slurry (PTPMS) was used as feedstock with mixed microbial consortia (MMC) and enriched mixed microbial consortia (EMMC). Mix of bioethanol and VFA were obtained in all the four cases (PMS-MMC, PMS-EMMC, PTPMS-EMC and PTPMS-EMMC), but, bioethanol and VFA yield of 0.04 g/g and 0.27 g/g, respectively obtained from PTPMS with EMMC was found to be comparatively higher. Control experiments carried out with glucose yielded bioethanol and VFA of 0.042 g/g and 0.28 g/g, respectively demonstrating that the organism was using reducible sugars in the feedstock for the generation of bioethanol by simultaneously producing the VFA from COD.

Most of these are thyristor based SMES, employing proportional type controllers. In this paper, a supervisory adaptive model predictive control scheme (AMPC) is proposed for a voltage source converter based relatively small rating SMES for LFC application. The reference power command for the SMES is derived from the AMPC in such a manner that it effectively handles the operational constraints of the SMES system. A representative first-order system emulating the inner loop dynamics of the SMES chopper system, is tuned offline via genetic algorithm (GA) and is used to derive dynamic constraints for the cost function in AMPC. The effectiveness of the scheme is demonstrated through simulations.

The current status and challenges associated with the production and utilization of cellulosic ethanol in Korea are reviewed in this paper. Cellulosic ethanol has emerged as a promising option for mitigating Korea's CO(2) emissions and enhancing its energy security. Korea's limited biomass resources is the most critical barrier to achieving its implementation targets for cellulosic ethanol. Efforts to identify new suitable biomass resources for cellulosic ethanol production are ongoing and intensive. Aquatic biomasses including macroalgae and plantation wastes collected in the Southeast Asia region have been found to have great potential as feedstocks for the production of cellulosic ethanol. R&D explorations into the development of technologies that can convert biomass materials to ethanol more efficiently also are underway. It is expected that cellulosic ethanol will be in supply from 2020 and that, by 2030, its use will have effectively reduced Korea's total gasoline consumption by 10%.

Sathya;Abstract This paper highlights the load frequency control using dual mode Bat algorithm based scheduling of PI controllers for interconnected power systems. The bat inspired algorithm based on the echolocation of bats has been developed in 2010. In this study, the bat inspired algorithm based dual mode PI controller is applied to the multi-area interconnected thermal power system in order to tune the parameter PI controllers. The proposed controller is simple in structure and easy for implementation. The proposed controller was compared with those from conventional the PI controllers and Fuzzy gain scheduling of PI controllers. The simulation results show the point that the proposed bat inspired algorithm, based dual mode gain scheduling of PI controllers (BIDPI), provides better transient as well as steady state of response. It is also found that the proposed controller is less sensitive to the changes in system parameters.

A detailed analysis of the effects of ground grid configuration on grounding performance has been carried out for uniform and horizontally stratified soils with multiple layers. The results of the analysis reveal that the most efficient and cost-effective design is highly dependent on soil structure type and characteristics. In the absence of ground rods, grounding grids with uniform mesh size are quite efficient in soils having a thin (relative to grid size) high resistivity (relative to the lower layers) top soil, while grids with small mesh size at the periphery of the grid provide optimum performance in uniform soils and soils with low resistivity top soils. Ground rods were found to be effective only when a significant portion of their length is in contact with a low resistivity soil, as expected.

Response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) was employed to optimize four process parameters: NCO/OH molar ratio, loading of crosslinking agent (glycerol), loading of catalyst (a mixture of triethylene diamine, stannous octoate, and triethanolamine), and loading of blowing agent (water) for the maximum compression strength of the rigid BPU foams. With the quadratic orthogonal regression model, verified by experimentation, the maximum compression strength of approximately 180 kPa was obtained at the following optimal conditions: NCO/OH molar ratio of 1.24:1, glycerol addition of 12.11%, catalyst loading of 0.76%, and blowing agent addition of 1.31% in relation to the total mass of polyols. The BPU foam prepared at the optimal conditions exhibits good thermal conductivity (0.045 Wm−1K−1) and thermal stability, comparable to those of a reference foam prepared with 100% PPG400.

Yard waste is either dumped or is being openly burned to get rid of it, instead of using it as a valuable renewable energy source. In this study, hydrothermal carbonization of yard waste was conducted to valorize it as a solid bio fuel, using a batch reactor. The effect of process parameter on yield, energy and physicochemical properties of the valorized solid bio fuel (hydrochar) was examined in this study by varying reaction temperature (160-200 °C for 2 h) and reaction time (2-24 h at 200 °C). The calorific value of hydrochar was within a range of 17.72-24.59 MJ/kg as compared to 15.37 MJ/kg for untreated yard waste. Hydrochar mass yield decreased from 78.6% at operating temperature - time of 160 °C -2 h to 45.6% at 200 °C -24 h. The plot of atomic ratios (H/C and O/C) demonstrates improvement in the coalification process which was mainly governed by decarboxylation and dehydration reactions. The grindability of the prepared hydrochar was comparable to that of coal. Hydrochar produced at lower reaction condition (160-200 °C at 2 h) have better flowability as compared to that produced at higher reaction condition (4-24 h at 200 °C). The reaction time longer than 12 h has a minimal effect on the yield, energy and physicochemical properties of hydrochar. Increasing reaction time and temperature improved the ignition and burnt temperature of hydrochar. All reaction condition has an energy ratio (energy output to energy input) of more than one making HTC process a net energy producer.
