It addresses the key advantages of these systems, their inherent safety features, as well as the challenges and opportunities they present. Furthermore, the relevance of modular reactors in the context of transitioning towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources is discussed. The indicator related to the land use intensity in small modular reactors is addressed. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this article aims to shed light on the current state of modular reactor technology and provide an informed perspective on their role in the future energy generation. Results show that land use intensity index is between 0.07-0.08 m2 /MWhy. SMRs have advantages such as safety, mass production and easy transportation; which enables their deployment in remote or isolated areas. Also, this technology can play a key role in the transition to cleaner and sustainable energy production, making them accessible for countries with limited budgets. However, SMRs are in a nascent state and more research is required to address aspects such as environmental impact, human risk, generation efficiency and integration with other energy sources.

This assessment report establishes the value of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) for the 240 million hill and mountain people across the eight countries sharing the region, for the 1.65 billion people in the river basins downstream, and ultimately for the world. Yet, the region and its people face a range of old and new challenges moving forward, with climate change, globalization, movement of people, conflict and environmental degradation. At the same time, we also see incredible potential to meet these challenges in a sustainable manner

Four experimental diets were formulated to be isoproteic (45.0 % crude protein) and isolipidic (12.0 % crude fat), based on the yellowtail nutritional requirements. Cholesterol was added to compensate its content in the FO. Lysine and methionine were also added to compensate its lower amount in the PBM. DHA-Nature was additional incorporated to reach similar levels of DHA than those present in FM and FO. One hundred and eighty S. dorsalis juveniles (14.54 g 0.19 g, mean SE) were randomly distributed into 12 tanks with 500 L each, connected into a recirculation system. After 48 days experimentation procedure, no significant differences were observed in performance. It is concluded that PBM can efficiently replace FM and FO in diets for Seriola dorsalis without any negative impact, where the fatty acid combination contained in the total replacement favored the use of fat as an energy source if DHA is enriched. However, it will be interesting to study the gene expression within the growth axis to fully comprehend the role of somatic growth vs. growth in length.

Theme of the Colloquium The extreme vulnerability of humans and contemporary societies, recently laid bare by the Covid-19 pandemic, has led to extreme poverty, famine and numerous sorts of inequality, injustice, and exploitation affecting a vast proportion of the global human population. Different and unexpected forms of vulnerability felt worldwide urge philosophy and philosophers to reflect upon the present situation and to take action towards finding humane and well-reasoned answers to some of today’s most pressing problems. To this end, and in line with its core commitment to the “philosophy of care,” the IEF aims to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue between philosophers and all of those who, in their own fields of inquiry and expertise, are engaged in taking care of the Earth and its inhabitants by doing their utmost to mitigate the perils currently threatening our planetary household. A precise definition of the nature, aims and methods of a “philosophy of care” has yet to be established, but its scope has widened to encompass major challenges, notably the promotion of inclusive and democratic societies, gender equality, climate and environmental sustainability, cultural, artistic and human heritage, and universal access to high-quality and affordable healthcare and education. These are the fundamental issues we addressed in this colloquium. In its 2nd edition, the colloquium also payed tribute to Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo (1930-2004), former Portuguese prime-minister and a pioneering contributor to the development of the philosophy of care, whose life and work were evoked by a special panel. 761A-88F4-6066 | Robert Andres Martins Junqueira info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The increasing GHG emissions affects the climate and water systems; therefore, the representation of the Climate-Land-Energy-Water (CLEWs) nexus is paramount. Using OSeMOSYS framework, the study develops an integrated CLEWs model for Colombia, and three scenarios are analyzed. Key takeaways are: fossil fuel resources are needed for a secure transition; electricicity and hydrogen will play a significant role in the decarbonization process; and reforestation plus efficient livestock are critical to reach carbon neutrality by mid-century.
