Roccetti, Giulia in OpenAIREThis dataset contains 365 hyperspectral albedo maps of Earth, one for each day of the year. The hyperspectral albedo maps are built from a 10-year average of the MODIS Surface Reflectance dataset (MCD43D 42-48, version 6.1). Using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) regression algorithm we combine different hyperspectral laboratory and in-situ measurements spectra of various dry soils, vegetation surfaces and mixure of both to reconstruct the albedo maps in the entire wavelength range from 400 to 2500 nm, with a spectral resolution of 10 nm. The hyperspectral albedo maps have a spatial resolution of 0.05° in latitude and longitude. Additional hyperspectral albedo maps with a coarser spatial or spectral resolution are available upon request. Alvarez Lopez, Pablo in OpenAIREThe increasing mobility and transport demand and the sinking global supply of fossil energy carriers will eventually cause a growing trend towards alternative drive concepts and the development of corresponding energy supply infrastructures. These emerging solutions and their interaction with the prevailing traffic will need to be evaluated for their optimal integration. SUMO is a preferred tool when it comes to evaluating measures in urban traffic behavior. When using SUMO, however, the creation of corresponding scenarios is accompanied by challenges in network creation and corrections as well as traffic demand generation and calibration. Motivated by the projects emil and InduktivLaden, both funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and digital Infrastructure, this paper presents the newly developed tool eNetEditor, which allows users the rapid prototyping of custom and calibrated traffic scenarios based on traffic counts and their evaluation in regard of energy consumption.

Dietrich, Ralph-Uwe in OpenAIRE2nd generation biofuels gained more importance in recent years since they enable greenhouse gas emission reductions in the transport sector on a larger scale. One promising way to produce alternative fuels is the Biomass-to-Liquid (BtL) process with the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis which produces synthetic hydrocarbons that could directly be used as liquid fuels in an existing infrastructure. One major issue of this process is the production cost. Within the European COMSYN project (Compact Gasification and Synthesis process for Transport Fuels), a new BtL process concept is developed that aims to reduce biofuel production cost up to 35 % compared to alternative routes.

Even though the southern and eastern Mediterranean region is served by several commercial data providers, in a public domain, so far only coarse resolution (100 km) data or data with limited temporal coverage is available. For more rapid development of policies and to attract the industrial interest in this region a more enhanced and easy to access free information is needed. The project will bring high resolution (1 km), long term coverage of at least 15 years data on the available solar resources for the region covering the countries Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine National Authority, Mauretania and Turkey. The resource data will be derived from Earth Observation satellite data, based on published and transparent methodologies and the data will be validated with existing ground measurements in the region. The database will be provided by SOLEMI and Helioclim (SoDa) sources - Global Horizontal Irradiation (GHI) and Direct Normal Irradiation (DNI). The data will be made available via a distributed information system which will ensure the ease access to the data. The free access to the data will include historical annual and monthly averages, and more detailed data products and services will remain the domain of commercial data providers. This paper will show the first prototype of the user interface for an easy web access to the solar radiation as well as ancillary geographical data. With the presentation of this paper we aim to encourage potential users to give us feedback on the further development.

Rieke, Johannes in OpenAIREIncreasing rotor diameter and a flexible lightweight blade structure – this combination is characteristic for recent and future generations of wind turbines. Complex interactions with the support structure of the turbine and the environment result in challenging aeroelastic properties. This raises the question whether current simulation tools are comparable in their ability of predicting the behaviour of modern wind turbine rotor designs. The talk summarizes a code-to-code comparison between two commercial general purpose multi body systems with wind turbine specific extensions (SIMPACK and alaska/Wind) and three established turbine simulation tools (Bladed, FAST, HAWC2). To this end the publicly available reference wind turbine IWT-7.5-164 model has been adapted for the considered tools, with slight modifications in the airfoil polars. The comparison itself is a thorough cross-check between the five simulation codes. The corresponding tests were defined with increasing model complexity, ranging from the static elastic deformation of a single blade fixed at the root to the dynamic response of the wind turbine model subjected to homogeneous wind inflow. Whenever possible, the results were complemented by simulations of additional codes. This work was conducted as a collaboration of four partners from research and industry in the frame of work package 4.2 of the German national research project SmartBlades2. This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, grant no. 0324032 A/C.
