Two stage premixed combustor with variable geometry has been developed to meet stringent NOx goals in Japan without the use of water or steam injection. This combustion system is planned to be applied for 120-MW gas turbine in 1090-MW LNG combined cycle plant. The full-pressure, full-scale combustion tests were conducted over a wide range of operating conditions for this gas turbine. The combustion tests proved that NOx levels as well as mechanical characteristics were well within the goals.

Bretas; John Morales; John Morales; Christian Rehtanz;Abstract Protection devices are designed to provide high sensitivity to transients produced by undesirable conditions like lightning stroke, avoiding their operation under all tolerable events like switching operations. The problem of incorrect operation due to transient phenomena can be handled by two means, one is to allow the transients and provide additional logics in the relay, other means is to damp the oscillation from source side. Protection relays’ not always must trip or send a trip signal and sometimes, only an alarm is necessary. In this context, this research presents a fast and reliable formulation for transmission lines (TLs) switching operations and lightning strokes detection and identification. The proposed methodology is based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Euclidean Norm (EN); by using PCA it is possible to determine that normal operation signals describe a very well defined Ellipsoidal Pattern (EP). In this manner, by calculating the Euclidean Norm (EN) among Principal Components (PCs) for each sample and the origin of the reference Ellipsoidal Pattern, switching operations and lightning strokes are detected and identified. Test results show that the proposed algorithm presents high success on phenomena detection and identification, presenting a high potential for online applications.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2019Publisher:Elsevier BV Authors: Hans-Peter Ebert; Michael Brütting; S. Vidi; F. Hemberger;Abstract Thermal energy storage with phase change materials (PCM) provides high storage capacities in small temperature intervals. For the design of storage systems, the enthalpy curve of the used PCM has to be known with high precision. The T-History method has evolved to a widely used method for the measurement of the enthalpy as a function of temperature of PCM because of its simplicity and the advantage to be able to investigate larger sample volumes than typically used for differential scanning calorimeters. In order to ensure isothermal specimen during the measurement a thermal insulation is often mounted around the sample holder, but this insulation material is not considered in the evaluation model. In this work a new evaluation model for insulated T-History setups is developed by an analytical heat balance. This model is validated by numerical simulations of insulated T-History measurements and experimentally. By the use of the new model for the evaluation of the enthalpy a significant increase of accuracy can be achieved.

This article presents numerical prediction of a thermoacoustic limit cycle in an industrial gas turbine combustor. The case corresponds to an experimental high pressure test rig equipped with the full-scale Siemens SGT-100 combustor operated at two mean pressure levels of 3 bar and 6 bar. The Flame Transfer Function (FTF) characterising the global unsteady response of the flame to velocity perturbations is obtained for both operating pressures by means of incompressible Large Eddy Simulations (LES). A linear stability analysis is then performed by coupling the FTFs with a wave-based low order thermoacoustic network solver. All the thermoacoustic modes predicted at 3 bar pressure are stable; whereas one of the modes at 6 bar is found to be unstable at a frequency of 231 Hz, which agrees with the experiments. A weakly nonlinear stability analysis is carried out by combining the Flame Describing Function (FDF) predicted by LES with the low order thermoacoustic network solver. The frequency, mode shape and velocity amplitude corresponding to the predicted limit cycle at 209 Hz are used to compute the absolute pressure fluctuation amplitude in the combustor. The numerically reconstructed amplitude is found to be reasonably close to the measured dynamics.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2015Publisher:Elsevier BV Authors: Patrick Plötz; Till Gnann;Abstract Alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) may help to reduce global CO2 emissions from the transport sector. One obstacle for AFV market diffusion is the lack of refueling infrastructure which prevents potential users from buying AFVs. Meanwhile infrastructure suppliers await market developments before investing in an extensive infrastructure roll-out. This mutual interaction has been a field of research for several years and a variety of modeling approaches have been applied. This paper aims at reviewing models of combined AFV and refueling infrastructure market diffusion and pointing out research gaps. We retrieve stylized facts which models should account for from empirical studies on natural gas vehicles, user acceptance analyses on AFVs and technical restraints of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Ten interaction models are evaluated with respect to the identified aspects. We find that simulation is the most common approach for an interaction model. Besides, the majority of the examined stylized facts is covered by the models. However, models for FCEVs could be improved by reflecting the transport of fuel to refueling infrastructure while new models on PEVs should include charging duration, frequency and charging station ownership.

Srisupha;SF 6 self blast circuit breakers use the flow back of high pressure gas from the expansion chamber, which is generated by ablation of a PTFE-nozzle and the arc radiation to interrupt the arc. The interruption capability of SF 6 self blast circuit breakers depends on the pressure inside the switching chamber at current zero. During each fault current interruption, the arc radiation induces contact and nozzle ablation. The nozzle widening causes reduction of the pressure build-up and thus results in the reduction of the interruption capability. The objective of this work is to use a non-invasive method to assess the degree of nozzle ablation without opening the interrupter and to estimate the degradation of the interruption capability. In this work, the frequency response analysis is applied to detect the change in capacitance due to the change of the geometry inside the circuit breaker interrupter.

Provided that the integrity of the reactor pressure vessel is not in question, a rupture of the connecting pressure vessel between reactor pressure vessel and steam generator vessel is the maximum possible leak cross-section. In this work it is investigated whether the components of the reactor pressure vessel are exposed by the depressurization process to mechanical loads which exceed the load limits. These loads are caused by two different events, the strong momentum change of the fluid and the local pressure differences, respectively. Due to the momentum change the bottom reflector receives the maximum load, whereby only 2% of the compressive strength of the graphite quality used there are reached. However, the load by local pressure differences is between passed volumes and in normal operation, not-passed volumes lead to high load values. A maximum pressure difference of 44.5 bar was calculated at the thermal top shield.

The design aspects and their implementation in form of fuzzy-logic coordination controller are presented. Furthermore, ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) is employed for the training of the proposed fuzzy-logic controller. The local signals of the FACTS devices are applied to achieve the coordination objectives. Digital simulations of multi-machine power system subjected to a wide variety of disturbances validate the efficiency of this approach. The proposed control scheme is not only robust, but also simple and easy to be realized in power systems.

ABSTRACTA novel design for a high temperature SOFC, based on lamellar electrode-electrolyte segments obtained by solidification of an oxidic eutectic melt on an electrolyte substrate is presented. Such “composite” electrodes contain NiO or MnO - 8Y-ZrO2 lamellae, which after reduction / oxidation yield electrode-electrolyte lamellae with 1–2 μm width and a vertical dimension of> 100 μm, depending upon the amount of eutectic melt solidified on a polycrystalline substrate. The nucleation of the eutectic on a polycrystalline substrate followed by a semi-directional crystallization of the two phases yields a gradient of 3-phase boundaries over the height of such an electrode, with the number of 3-phase boundaries increasing towards the substrate.
