Abstract This paper aims to present a feasibility study of the innovative plant for methanol synthesis from carbon dioxide-sequestered by fossil fuel power plant and hydrogen, which is produced by water electrolyzer employing the over-production on the electrical grid. The thermo-economic analysis is performed in the framework of the MefCO2 H2020 EU project and it is referred to the German economic scenario, properly taking into account the real market costs and cost functions for different components of the plant. Three different plant capacities for methanol production (4000 10,000 and 50,000 ton/year) have been investigated, assuming an average cost for electrical energy to feed electrolysers and analyzing the influence of the most significant parameters (oxygen selling option, methanol selling price and electrolysers’ capital cost) on the profitability of the plant. The analysis has been performed in W-ECoMP, software for the thermo-economic analysis and plant optimization developed by the University of Genoa.

Abstract— The odd nucleoside 4‐thiouridine, which is present in position 8 of 70% of E. coli tRNAs, possesses unusual spectroscopic properties which make it suitable for intramolecular energy transfer studies. Both its luminescence excitation spectrum and the action spectrum (230–380 nm) for the 8–13 link formation have been established in native E. coli tRNA at room temperature. The spectra are identical and present a new unexpected peak around 260 nm. At this wavelength, they are amplified by a factor of nine as compared with the absorption and excitation spectra of the free nucleoside in aqueous solution.The origin of this new peak is discussed and it is concluded that energy transfer does occur from the common nucleosides to the 4‐thiouridine residue. Using the values of the nucleosides to 4‐thiouridine distances inferred from the sets of atomic coordinates obtained on yeast tRNAphe crystals, a satisfactory account of our finding can be obtained assuming singlet‐singlet energy transfer. The efficiency of the mechanism is probably favoured by a good overlap between the emission spectra of the common nucleosides and the absorption spectrum of 4‐thiouridine.

Lerch;Abstract An international workshop was held in Richland, Washington, United States of America, in October, 1980 to discuss progress on development of the acid digestion process for treating combustible nuclear waste. The workshop was attended by participants from nine member countries of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD/NEA). The status of the acid digestion development programs of various countries is discussed in this paper. The acid digestion process has been developed and demonstrated on an engineering scale in several countries and appears to be especially applicable to treatment of combustible wastes containing high levels of transuranic contamination, where there is potential for recovering the transuranic radionuclides. Because the process takes place at a relatively low temperature, the plutonium contained in the residue is in a form that can be readily recovered using standard leaching techniques. The process is adaptable to a wide variety of combustible wastes, such as cellulosics, plastics, rubber materials, and ion exchange resin. While the process has been developed and demonstrated on an engineering scale primarily for transuranic contaminated wastes, the process is also adaptable to beta-gamma wastes such as reactor ion exchange resins.

Indeed, the context is favorable to the emergence of such systems first, of course, due to the regulatory constraints on certain refrigerant fluids, but also for their specific technical characteristics (the storage capacity, for example). The gas utilities have in fact shown an increasingly keen interest in all types of sorption systems, as a way of diversifying natural gas utilization, particularly in the summer. After a review of that context, this paper highlights the advantages of solid sorption and describes the criteria for choosing an installation in air conditioning and cooling production applications. Finally, it discusses the difficulties likely to be encountered in developing sorption systems, as well as the prospects for the future.

Firstly, different materials are experimented (Stainless Steel, Copper, aluminum and Monel 400). The engine performances and the state of each material after 15 h of use are considered. The Stainless steel was the material that best satisfies these two conditions. Five regenerators in stainless steel with different porosities were manufactured and experimented (95%, 90%, 85%, 80% and 75%). Porosity that gives the best trade-off between maximizing the engine brake power, maximizing the heat transfer and minimizing the pressure drops, was retained. Thus, the regenerator in stainless steel with porosity of 85% was considered as the most suitable matrix maximizing the Stirling engine performances and minimizing heat and friction losses.

Firstly, different materials are experimented (Stainless Steel, Copper, aluminum and Monel 400). The engine performances and the state of each material after 15 h of use are considered. The Stainless steel was the material that best satisfies these two conditions. Five regenerators in stainless steel with different porosities were manufactured and experimented (95%, 90%, 85%, 80% and 75%). Porosity that gives the best trade-off between maximizing the engine brake power, maximizing the heat transfer and minimizing the pressure drops, was retained. Thus, the regenerator in stainless steel with porosity of 85% was considered as the most suitable matrix maximizing the Stirling engine performances and minimizing heat and friction losses.

Numerous studies on night ventilation have been conducted, but the active ventilation inside the air gap of a double wall with high thermal inertia has not been studied. The first part of this study examines the impact of VIDWs on the thermal comfort in a timber-frame house. The VIDW is modeled in transient mode based on an electrical analogy with the assumption that the exchange coefficients are constant for a given air velocity. In addition, modeling a stationary CFD in forced convection of the VIDW air gap allowed us to study the cooling potential and the benefit of installing obstacles.

Recent EU legislation encourages the production and use of advanced, third generation biofuels with improved sustainability for future energy systems. The integration of technologies such as anaerobic digestion, gasification, and power to gas, along with advanced feedstocks such as algae will be at the forefront in meeting future sustainability criteria and achieving a green gas supply for the gas grid. This paper explores the relevant pathways in which an integrated biomethane industry could potentially materialise and identifies and discusses the latest biotechnological advances in the production of renewable gas. Three scenarios of cascading biomethane systems are developed.

To maximize the power from the PV panel array, the DC–DC boost converter is controlled by its duty ratio which is practically saturated between 0 and 1. MPPT based on conventional control presents the problems of oscillations around maximum power point (MPP) and divergence under rapid climatic changes. In order to attenuate the effect of atmospheric condition variation and take into account asymmetric saturation of the duty ratio, we propose a novel robust saturated controller based on both [Formula: see text] performances and Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) representation of PV-boost nonlinear system. Within this approach, the nonlinear PV-boost system and its reference are first described by T-S fuzzy models. Second, the saturation effect is represented by a polytopic model. Then, a fuzzy integral state feedback controller is designed to achieve stable MPPT control. Based on Lyapunov function, the mixed [Formula: see text] stabilization conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The optimization of the attraction domain of closed-loop system is solved as a convex optimization problem in LMI terms. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed controller under irradiance and temperature variations is demonstrated through the simulation results. The comparison with some existing controllers shows an improvement of MPPT control performance in terms of power extraction.

A 100 kW three-phase Grid-Tied MATLAB/Simulink model is used to analyze the system response during unbalance conditions. The simulation results of designed FRT scheme are critically compared with conventionally adopted FRT scheme i.e. crowbar circuitry. However, for inverter control proportional integrator (PI) controller is used. Moreover, the analysis is carried out for faults at point of common-coupling (PCC) as well as 5-km away from PCC. The obtained simulated results of PI controller with well-designed FRT scheme authenticates stable, minimum oscillation, ripples free, robust and fast performance for unbalance fault variables as compared to previous work.

A 100 kW three-phase Grid-Tied MATLAB/Simulink model is used to analyze the system response during unbalance conditions. The simulation results of designed FRT scheme are critically compared with conventionally adopted FRT scheme i.e. crowbar circuitry. However, for inverter control proportional integrator (PI) controller is used. Moreover, the analysis is carried out for faults at point of common-coupling (PCC) as well as 5-km away from PCC. The obtained simulated results of PI controller with well-designed FRT scheme authenticates stable, minimum oscillation, ripples free, robust and fast performance for unbalance fault variables as compared to previous work.

Abstract This paper aims to present a feasibility study of the innovative plant for methanol synthesis from carbon dioxide-sequestered by fossil fuel power plant and hydrogen, which is produced by water electrolyzer employing the over-production on the electrical grid. The thermo-economic analysis is performed in the framework of the MefCO2 H2020 EU project and it is referred to the German economic scenario, properly taking into account the real market costs and cost functions for different components of the plant. Three different plant capacities for methanol production (4000 10,000 and 50,000 ton/year) have been investigated, assuming an average cost for electrical energy to feed electrolysers and analyzing the influence of the most significant parameters (oxygen selling option, methanol selling price and electrolysers’ capital cost) on the profitability of the plant. The analysis has been performed in W-ECoMP, software for the thermo-economic analysis and plant optimization developed by the University of Genoa.

Abstract— The odd nucleoside 4‐thiouridine, which is present in position 8 of 70% of E. coli tRNAs, possesses unusual spectroscopic properties which make it suitable for intramolecular energy transfer studies. Both its luminescence excitation spectrum and the action spectrum (230–380 nm) for the 8–13 link formation have been established in native E. coli tRNA at room temperature. The spectra are identical and present a new unexpected peak around 260 nm. At this wavelength, they are amplified by a factor of nine as compared with the absorption and excitation spectra of the free nucleoside in aqueous solution.The origin of this new peak is discussed and it is concluded that energy transfer does occur from the common nucleosides to the 4‐thiouridine residue. Using the values of the nucleosides to 4‐thiouridine distances inferred from the sets of atomic coordinates obtained on yeast tRNAphe crystals, a satisfactory account of our finding can be obtained assuming singlet‐singlet energy transfer. The efficiency of the mechanism is probably favoured by a good overlap between the emission spectra of the common nucleosides and the absorption spectrum of 4‐thiouridine.

Lerch;Abstract An international workshop was held in Richland, Washington, United States of America, in October, 1980 to discuss progress on development of the acid digestion process for treating combustible nuclear waste. The workshop was attended by participants from nine member countries of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD/NEA). The status of the acid digestion development programs of various countries is discussed in this paper. The acid digestion process has been developed and demonstrated on an engineering scale in several countries and appears to be especially applicable to treatment of combustible wastes containing high levels of transuranic contamination, where there is potential for recovering the transuranic radionuclides. Because the process takes place at a relatively low temperature, the plutonium contained in the residue is in a form that can be readily recovered using standard leaching techniques. The process is adaptable to a wide variety of combustible wastes, such as cellulosics, plastics, rubber materials, and ion exchange resin. While the process has been developed and demonstrated on an engineering scale primarily for transuranic contaminated wastes, the process is also adaptable to beta-gamma wastes such as reactor ion exchange resins.

Indeed, the context is favorable to the emergence of such systems first, of course, due to the regulatory constraints on certain refrigerant fluids, but also for their specific technical characteristics (the storage capacity, for example). The gas utilities have in fact shown an increasingly keen interest in all types of sorption systems, as a way of diversifying natural gas utilization, particularly in the summer. After a review of that context, this paper highlights the advantages of solid sorption and describes the criteria for choosing an installation in air conditioning and cooling production applications. Finally, it discusses the difficulties likely to be encountered in developing sorption systems, as well as the prospects for the future.

After a review of that context, this paper highlights the advantages of solid sorption and describes the criteria for choosing an installation in air conditioning and cooling production applications. Finally, it discusses the difficulties likely to be encountered in developing sorption systems, as well as the prospects for the future.

Firstly, different materials are experimented (Stainless Steel, Copper, aluminum and Monel 400). The engine performances and the state of each material after 15 h of use are considered. The Stainless steel was the material that best satisfies these two conditions. Five regenerators in stainless steel with different porosities were manufactured and experimented (95%, 90%, 85%, 80% and 75%). Porosity that gives the best trade-off between maximizing the engine brake power, maximizing the heat transfer and minimizing the pressure drops, was retained. Thus, the regenerator in stainless steel with porosity of 85% was considered as the most suitable matrix maximizing the Stirling engine performances and minimizing heat and friction losses.

Recent EU legislation encourages the production and use of advanced, third generation biofuels with improved sustainability for future energy systems. The integration of technologies such as anaerobic digestion, gasification, and power to gas, along with advanced feedstocks such as algae will be at the forefront in meeting future sustainability criteria and achieving a green gas supply for the gas grid. This paper explores the relevant pathways in which an integrated biomethane industry could potentially materialise and identifies and discusses the latest biotechnological advances in the production of renewable gas. Three scenarios of cascading biomethane systems are developed.

To maximize the power from the PV panel array, the DC–DC boost converter is controlled by its duty ratio which is practically saturated between 0 and 1. MPPT based on conventional control presents the problems of oscillations around maximum power point (MPP) and divergence under rapid climatic changes. In order to attenuate the effect of atmospheric condition variation and take into account asymmetric saturation of the duty ratio, we propose a novel robust saturated controller based on both [Formula: see text] performances and Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) representation of PV-boost nonlinear system. Within this approach, the nonlinear PV-boost system and its reference are first described by T-S fuzzy models. Second, the saturation effect is represented by a polytopic model. Then, a fuzzy integral state feedback controller is designed to achieve stable MPPT control. Based on Lyapunov function, the mixed [Formula: see text] stabilization conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The optimization of the attraction domain of closed-loop system is solved as a convex optimization problem in LMI terms. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed controller under irradiance and temperature variations is demonstrated through the simulation results. The comparison with some existing controllers shows an improvement of MPPT control performance in terms of power extraction.

To maximize the power from the PV panel array, the DC–DC boost converter is controlled by its duty ratio which is practically saturated between 0 and 1. MPPT based on conventional control presents the problems of oscillations around maximum power point (MPP) and divergence under rapid climatic changes. In order to attenuate the effect of atmospheric condition variation and take into account asymmetric saturation of the duty ratio, we propose a novel robust saturated controller based on both [Formula: see text] performances and Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) representation of PV-boost nonlinear system. Within this approach, the nonlinear PV-boost system and its reference are first described by T-S fuzzy models. Second, the saturation effect is represented by a polytopic model. Then, a fuzzy integral state feedback controller is designed to achieve stable MPPT control. Based on Lyapunov function, the mixed [Formula: see text] stabilization conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The optimization of the attraction domain of closed-loop system is solved as a convex optimization problem in LMI terms. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed controller under irradiance and temperature variations is demonstrated through the simulation results. The comparison with some existing controllers shows an improvement of MPPT control performance in terms of power extraction.

A 100 kW three-phase Grid-Tied MATLAB/Simulink model is used to analyze the system response during unbalance conditions. The simulation results of designed FRT scheme are critically compared with conventionally adopted FRT scheme i.e. crowbar circuitry. However, for inverter control proportional integrator (PI) controller is used. Moreover, the analysis is carried out for faults at point of common-coupling (PCC) as well as 5-km away from PCC. The obtained simulated results of PI controller with well-designed FRT scheme authenticates stable, minimum oscillation, ripples free, robust and fast performance for unbalance fault variables as compared to previous work.
