Mohamad Ramadan in OpenAIREAbstract The electrical efficiency of a photovoltaic panel PV is highly dependent on its temperature. When the temperature of a PV increases, its electrical efficiency decreases. Using Phase Change Material PCM is one of the most promising tools nowadays to reduce and regulate the temperature of a PV panel and to increase its electrical efficiency. The current research is based on experimental studies of the effect of using pure (White petroleum jelly) and combined PCM (white petroleum jelly, copper, and graphite) on the thermal behavior and electrical performance of a PV panel. A transient energy balance is also presented to analyze the system thermal behavior and correlate it to the electrical outputs. To proceed, an appropriate experimental setup was devised and three prototypes were constructed and tested. Prototype 1 is formed from a reference case and consists of a stand, a PV panel, and an electrical circuit with a given load. Prototypes 2 and 3 are designed with a container added at the rear face of each PV panel that holds pure PCM and combined PCM respectively. It was shown that the electrical efficiency of PV panels has been increased by an average of 3% when using pure PCM and by an average of 5.8% when using combined PCM. These enhancements as well the corresponding behaviors were demonstrated by a transient energy balance approach.

Gilles Lefebvre in OpenAIREAbstract This paper mainly includes the preparation, characterization and thermal properties of Stearic Acid/Olive Pomace Powder (SA/OPP) and Stearic Acid/Olive Pomace Powder/Graphite (AS/OPP) as a new form-stable composite phase change material for thermal energy storage, which are prepared by impregnation method followed by uniaxial compression. The graphite is added to improve thermal conductivity of SA/OPP form-stable composite PCM. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis and Hot Disk Analyzer measurements are using to characterized morphology, chemical structure, thermal performances, thermal stability and thermal conductivity of form-stable composite PCMs, respectively. The DSC analysis reveals that the melting and freezing temperatures and the latent heats of the SA/OPP form-stable composite PCM are measured as 55 °C and 51 °C, 111 J/g and 109 J/g, respectively. In addition, thermal conductivity of the form-stable composite PCM is increased by adding 7 wt % of graphite.

Especially, for the electric taxis (ETs) on an e-hailing platform, the relatively long waiting and charging time, compared to fuel vehicles, has nontrivial effects on drivers’ incomes and the whole service level of an e-hailing platform. Thus, it is significant to develop an efficient approach to arrange and coordinate the ET$\mathrm {s}'$ charging scheme. However, most previous studies focus on the coordination of personal EVs’ charging demands or operations aiming to reduce the charging costs of independent drivers and the load of the city’s power grid or maximize the profits of the charging stations. In this paper, we address the optimal charging problems of ETs to minimize the total out-of-service times of all ETs on an e-hailing platform. In particular, we formulate the problem as a mixed integer programming (MIP) model involving not only the optimal assignment between ETs and available charging piles but also the optimal charging sequence of ETs assigned to the same pile, based on the real-time charging demands of ETs and the statues of charging piles. The MIP model is efficiently solved by the art-of-state MIP resolver, Gurobi tool. A simulation experiment setting is established based on the real data from Didi e-hailing platform operating in Chengdu city, China. The computational results demonstrate that our MIP approach can observably reduce the total out-off-time of all ETs within acceptable computational time, comparing the existing approach in the literature, which apply first-come-first-service rule to determine the charging sequences of ETs.

These changes are, among other things, due to the opening of the electricity market and the economic crisis, which require the development of new automatic time adaptive prediction methods. The advent of innovating technologies also needs the development of some automatic methods because thousands or tens of thousands of time series have to be studied. In this paper we adopt for prediction a semi-parametric approach based on additive models. We present an automatic procedure for explanatory variable selection in an additive model and show how to correct middle term forecasting errors for short term forecasting. First, we consider an application to the EDF customer load demand which is typical of a load demand at an aggregate level. The goal of the application is to select variables from a large explanatory variables dictionary. The second application presented is an application on load demand of GEFCom 2012 competition, which we consider as a local application, where a major difficulty is to select some meteorological stations.

Guiffant; An emulsion of a mixture of alkane in water has been elaborated for thermal energy storage and transport. Investigations on heat transfer inside a sample of the emulsion in an agitated tank during a cooling phase are presented. The variation of the temperature as a function of time shows a stabilisation of temperature below the melting temperature which is interpreted as a supercooling phenomenon. The results are found in good agreement with experimental data obtained by using a calorimetric method. A theoretical expression is proposed to simulate the thermal behaviour which permits predicting the duration of the plateau of crystallisation. The results compare very well with experimental data, thus giving a new impulse to the design of new complex fluids for both storage and heat transport.

Mohamad Ramadan in OpenAIREThis work concerns a new thermal modeling for parabolic trough photovoltaic/thermal hybrid system along with case studies. A new thermal modeling using resistance analogy is conducted on the system, compared and validated against previous works. Case studies are performed on three countries of different climates which are Lebanon (mild climate), France (cold climate) and United Arab Emirates (warm climate) in order to study the electrical and thermal performance of the system. Results reveal that the highest achieved outlet temperature among the three cases is 95 °C in Lebanon, while the highest thermal efficiency is attained in United Arab Emirates (51.1%), and the highest electrical efficiency is 27.9% in France. Besides, environmental and economic analyses are carried out for each country to shed light on the significance of the studied system. It is observed that the payback period in Lebanon, France and United Arab Emirates is 1.4 years, 1.6 years and 1.7 years respectively, while the annual amount of alleviated carbon dioxide emissions is 72.9 t, 5.1 t and 71.1 t respectively.

The whole set of collisional parameters for HCl–CH 4 is novel. Most of the data for HCl–H 2 system is also published for the first time. Our results have a precision of about 2% or better for shifts and below 1% for broadening in the band center.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2013Publisher:Elsevier BV Abstract In this paper we investigate the co-movement and the causality relationship between energy consumption as well as electricity consumption and the HDI (human development index) using as a proxy of human well-being and by including energy prices as an additional variable, in fifteen developing countries for the period 1988 to 2008. Recently developed tests for the panel unit root, heterogeneous panel cointegration, and panel-based error correction models are employed. The empirical results support the neutrality hypothesis in the short-term, regards total energy or electricity consumption, implying an absence of causality running in either direction. In the short term, energy as well as electricity consumption has a neutral effect on the HDI. In the long-term the findings provide a clear support of a negative cointegration relationship between energy consumption and the HDI. While a positive cointegration relationship exists between electricity consumption and HDI. A 1% increase in per capita energy consumption reduces the HDI by 0.8% and, a 1% increase in per capita electricity consumption increases the HDI by 0.22%. Moreover, a 1% increase in energy price reduces the HDI by around 0.11%. This study thus provides empirical evidence of long-run and causal relationships between energy consumption and the HDI for our sample of countries; supporting the assertion that lack or limited access to modern energy services could hamper economic and human development prospects of countries and underpins all the MDGs (millennium development goals).
