Adebayo;In our continued efforts in the synthesis of ruthenium(II) polypyridine complexes as potential dyes for use in varied applications, such as the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), this work particularly describes the synthesis, absorption spectrum, redox behavior and luminescence properties of a new homoleptic ruthenium(II) complex bearing a simple trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid functionality as the anchoring ligand on terpyridine moiety. The functionalized terpyridine ligand: 4’-(trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid)-terpyridyl (L1) was synthesized by aryl bromide substitution on terpyridine in a basic reaction condition under palladium carbide catalysis. In particular, the photophysical and redox properties of the complex formulated as: bis-4’-(trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid)-terpyridyl ruthenium(II) bis-hexafluorophosphate [Ru(L1)2(PF6)2] are significantly better compared to those of [Ru(tpy)2]2+ and compare well with those of the best emitters of Ru(II) polypyridine family containing tridentate ligands. Reasons for the improved photophysical and redox properties of the complex may be attributed partly to the presence of a substituted α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid moiety leading to increase in the length of π-conjugation bond thereby enhancing the MLCT-MC (Metal-to-ligand-charge transfer-metal centred) energy gap, and to the reduced difference between the minima of the excited and ground states potential energy surfaces.

Casartelli;The flow field in a subsonic vaned radial diffuser of a single-stage centrifugal compressor is numerically investigated using a three-dimensional Navier–Stokes solver (TASCflow) and a two-dimensional analysis and inverse-design software package (MISES). The vane geometry is modified in the leading edge area (two-dimensional blade shaping) using MISES, without changing the diffuser throughflow characteristics. An analysis of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional effects of two redesigns on the flow in each of the diffuser subcomponents is performed in terms of static pressure recovery, total pressure loss production, and secondary flow reduction. The computed characteristic lines are compared with measurements, which confirm the improvement obtained by the leading edge redesign in terms of increased pressure rise and operating range.

The microstructure of the cathode shows a homogeneous distribution of the active material and conductive additive particles independent of the drying temperature. However, the results of impedance spectroscopy and cycling voltammetry are affected by the drying temperature. The solvent evaporation temperature, therefore, affects the polymer binder distribution and its characteristics, which include the polar phase content of the polymer and its affinity with the other components of the cathode. The discharge capacity value after 50 cycles is 120 and 81 mAh g−1 for the samples dried at 80 and 60 °C, respectively, which show the best and worst battery performance, respectively. It was concluded that carbon‐coated LiFePO4 cathodes should be prepared at drying temperatures between 80 and 100 °C for optimized performance.

Abstract Developing countries are growing apart on environmental issues. International environmental negotiations are no longer characterized merely by the North–South conflict. Rising powers have come to divide the Global South and redefine the Common-But-Differentiated Responsibilities principle. This article explains the divergence of China and India at the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, one of the first global environmental agreements to differentiate obligations between developing countries. China and India, the world’s two largest hydrofluorocarbon producers, ended decades of collaboration and split the rest of the developing world behind them. I argue that developmental strategy and political institutions shape the preferences and influences of industrial, governmental, and social stakeholders, thereby explaining their negotiation behavior and outcome. This article explains why China moved faster and further than India on negotiations for hydrofluorocarbon regulation. It has important implications for the two rising powers’ implementation of the Kigali Amendment and for their position formulations on other environmental issues.

This article explains why China moved faster and further than India on negotiations for hydrofluorocarbon regulation. It has important implications for the two rising powers’ implementation of the Kigali Amendment and for their position formulations on other environmental issues.

Both observables were measured in a large angular interval. The observable Aookk was measured from 0.312 to 1.10 GeV and Aoosk from 0.80 to 1.10 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. The beam polarization was oriented either along the beam direction or sideways, the target polarization was oriented longitudinally. Data are compared with phase-shift analyses predictions and with the PSI, LAMPF and SATURNE II results. Present results provide an important contribution to any future theoretical or phenomenological analysis.

In recent history, rapid socio-economic development has dramatically changed many of the World's mega deltas, which have typically undergone agricultural intensification and expansion, land-use change, urbanization, water resources engineering and exploitation of natural resources. As a result, mega deltas have evolved into complex and potentially vulnerable socio-ecological systems with unique threats and coping capabilities. The goal of this research was to establish a holistic understanding of threats, resilience, and adaptation for four mega deltas of variable geography and levels of socio-economic development, namely the Mekong, Yellow River, Yangtze, and Rhine deltas. Compiling this kind of information is critical for managing and developing these complex coastal areas sustainably but is typically hindered by a lack of consistent quantitative data across the ecological, social and economic sectors. To overcome this limitation, we adopted a qualitative approach, where delta characteristics across all sectors were assessed through systematic expert surveys. This approach enabled us to generate a comparative assessment of threats, resilience, and resilience-strengthening adaptation across the four deltas. Our assessment provides novel insights into the various components that dominate the overall risk situation in each delta and, for the first time, illustrates how each of these components differ across the four mega deltas. As such, our findings can guide a more detailed, sector specific, risk assessment or assist in better targeting the implementation of risk mitigation and adaptation strategies.

The stratigraphic succession is made up of: Palaeozoic-Miocene granitoids, a thick Jurassic- Cretaceous carbonate succession, Neogene lava flows and volcano-sedimentary deposits. Linked to a Miocene magma intrusion, marble and skarn rock-volumes developed by contact metamorphism and geothermal fluid flow. Faults are arranged in SW- and NNW-striking systems. These controlled the morphological evolution and favored Neogene-Quaternary dyke emplacement. Faulting gave rise to a tectonic depression where lacustrine sediments and pyroclastics deposited. Skarn rocks are mainly located at fault intersections and along pre-existing discontinuities, suggesting the role of bedding and/or fractures in channeling deep fluids. Results give inputs for exploration at depth of Los Humeros geothermal system.

Comparative wind tunnel experiments were performed on passive flow separation control on a at plate model equipped with a flap. The purpose of these tests was to investigate the flow control capabilities of off-surface mounted elements. A comparison was made of delta-shaped vortex generators of 1 to 1/3 boundary layer height and cylinders close to the wall. Surface pressure as well as PIV measurements were performed to investigate the influence of the layout of the VGs as well as the diameter of the cylinder and the position of the elements. The results showed that the off-surface devices performed better than the on-surface VGs for the fully separated case, and were equally good in improving the state of boundary layer that is on the verge of separation. It was also found that the off-surface devices could be positioned over a wider range with respect to the separation point. The experiments furthermore indicated that for the optimum cylinder configuration the vortex shedding frequency was consistent with the frequencies found in literature on periodic flow excitation.

Here, we use complementary characterisation techniques including electron microscopy, conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM), Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), atom probe tomography (APT) and intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) to study this correlation in Ti-doped (1 cat.%) hematite films deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on F:SnO2 (FTO) coated glass substrates. The deposition was carried out at 300 ��C, followed by annealing at 500 deg C for 2 h. Upon annealing, Ti was observed by APT to segregate to the hematite/FTO interface and into some hematite grains. Since no other pronounced changes in microstructure and chemical composition were observed by electron microscopy and RBS after annealing, the non-uniform Ti redistribution seems to be the reason for a reduced interfacial recombination in the annealed films, as observed by IMPS. This results in a lower onset potential, higher photocurrent and larger fill factor with respect to the as-deposited state. This work provides atomic-scale insights into the microscopic inhomogeneity in Ti-doped hematite thin films and the role of defect segregation in their electrical and photoelectrochemical properties.

Adebayo;In our continued efforts in the synthesis of ruthenium(II) polypyridine complexes as potential dyes for use in varied applications, such as the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), this work particularly describes the synthesis, absorption spectrum, redox behavior and luminescence properties of a new homoleptic ruthenium(II) complex bearing a simple trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid functionality as the anchoring ligand on terpyridine moiety. The functionalized terpyridine ligand: 4’-(trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid)-terpyridyl (L1) was synthesized by aryl bromide substitution on terpyridine in a basic reaction condition under palladium carbide catalysis. In particular, the photophysical and redox properties of the complex formulated as: bis-4’-(trans-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid)-terpyridyl ruthenium(II) bis-hexafluorophosphate [Ru(L1)2(PF6)2] are significantly better compared to those of [Ru(tpy)2]2+ and compare well with those of the best emitters of Ru(II) polypyridine family containing tridentate ligands. Reasons for the improved photophysical and redox properties of the complex may be attributed partly to the presence of a substituted α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid moiety leading to increase in the length of π-conjugation bond thereby enhancing the MLCT-MC (Metal-to-ligand-charge transfer-metal centred) energy gap, and to the reduced difference between the minima of the excited and ground states potential energy surfaces.

The vane geometry is modified in the leading edge area (two-dimensional blade shaping) using MISES, without changing the diffuser throughflow characteristics. An analysis of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional effects of two redesigns on the flow in each of the diffuser subcomponents is performed in terms of static pressure recovery, total pressure loss production, and secondary flow reduction. The computed characteristic lines are compared with measurements, which confirm the improvement obtained by the leading edge redesign in terms of increased pressure rise and operating range.

The microstructure of the cathode shows a homogeneous distribution of the active material and conductive additive particles independent of the drying temperature. However, the results of impedance spectroscopy and cycling voltammetry are affected by the drying temperature. The solvent evaporation temperature, therefore, affects the polymer binder distribution and its characteristics, which include the polar phase content of the polymer and its affinity with the other components of the cathode. The discharge capacity value after 50 cycles is 120 and 81 mAh g−1 for the samples dried at 80 and 60 °C, respectively, which show the best and worst battery performance, respectively. It was concluded that carbon‐coated LiFePO4 cathodes should be prepared at drying temperatures between 80 and 100 °C for optimized performance.

Abstract Developing countries are growing apart on environmental issues. International environmental negotiations are no longer characterized merely by the North–South conflict. Rising powers have come to divide the Global South and redefine the Common-But-Differentiated Responsibilities principle. This article explains the divergence of China and India at the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, one of the first global environmental agreements to differentiate obligations between developing countries. China and India, the world’s two largest hydrofluorocarbon producers, ended decades of collaboration and split the rest of the developing world behind them. I argue that developmental strategy and political institutions shape the preferences and influences of industrial, governmental, and social stakeholders, thereby explaining their negotiation behavior and outcome. This article explains why China moved faster and further than India on negotiations for hydrofluorocarbon regulation. It has important implications for the two rising powers’ implementation of the Kigali Amendment and for their position formulations on other environmental issues.

The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. The beam polarization was oriented either along the beam direction or sideways, the target polarization was oriented longitudinally. Data are compared with phase-shift analyses predictions and with the PSI, LAMPF and SATURNE II results. Present results provide an important contribution to any future theoretical or phenomenological analysis.

In recent history, rapid socio-economic development has dramatically changed many of the World's mega deltas, which have typically undergone agricultural intensification and expansion, land-use change, urbanization, water resources engineering and exploitation of natural resources. As a result, mega deltas have evolved into complex and potentially vulnerable socio-ecological systems with unique threats and coping capabilities. The goal of this research was to establish a holistic understanding of threats, resilience, and adaptation for four mega deltas of variable geography and levels of socio-economic development, namely the Mekong, Yellow River, Yangtze, and Rhine deltas. Compiling this kind of information is critical for managing and developing these complex coastal areas sustainably but is typically hindered by a lack of consistent quantitative data across the ecological, social and economic sectors. To overcome this limitation, we adopted a qualitative approach, where delta characteristics across all sectors were assessed through systematic expert surveys. This approach enabled us to generate a comparative assessment of threats, resilience, and resilience-strengthening adaptation across the four deltas. Our assessment provides novel insights into the various components that dominate the overall risk situation in each delta and, for the first time, illustrates how each of these components differ across the four mega deltas. As such, our findings can guide a more detailed, sector specific, risk assessment or assist in better targeting the implementation of risk mitigation and adaptation strategies.

The stratigraphic succession is made up of: Palaeozoic-Miocene granitoids, a thick Jurassic- Cretaceous carbonate succession, Neogene lava flows and volcano-sedimentary deposits. Linked to a Miocene magma intrusion, marble and skarn rock-volumes developed by contact metamorphism and geothermal fluid flow. Faults are arranged in SW- and NNW-striking systems. These controlled the morphological evolution and favored Neogene-Quaternary dyke emplacement. Faulting gave rise to a tectonic depression where lacustrine sediments and pyroclastics deposited. Skarn rocks are mainly located at fault intersections and along pre-existing discontinuities, suggesting the role of bedding and/or fractures in channeling deep fluids. Results give inputs for exploration at depth of Los Humeros geothermal system.

Comparative wind tunnel experiments were performed on passive flow separation control on a at plate model equipped with a flap. The purpose of these tests was to investigate the flow control capabilities of off-surface mounted elements. A comparison was made of delta-shaped vortex generators of 1 to 1/3 boundary layer height and cylinders close to the wall. Surface pressure as well as PIV measurements were performed to investigate the influence of the layout of the VGs as well as the diameter of the cylinder and the position of the elements. The results showed that the off-surface devices performed better than the on-surface VGs for the fully separated case, and were equally good in improving the state of boundary layer that is on the verge of separation. It was also found that the off-surface devices could be positioned over a wider range with respect to the separation point. The experiments furthermore indicated that for the optimum cylinder configuration the vortex shedding frequency was consistent with the frequencies found in literature on periodic flow excitation.

Grave; Kirtiman Deo Malviya; Dierk Raabe;Optimising the photoelectrochemical performance of hematite photoanodes for solar water splitting requires better understanding of the relationships between dopant distribution, structural defects and photoelectrochemical properties. Here, we use complementary characterisation techniques including electron microscopy, conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM), Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), atom probe tomography (APT) and intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) to study this correlation in Ti-doped (1 cat.%) hematite films deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on F:SnO2 (FTO) coated glass substrates. The deposition was carried out at 300 ��C, followed by annealing at 500 deg C for 2 h. Upon annealing, Ti was observed by APT to segregate to the hematite/FTO interface and into some hematite grains. Since no other pronounced changes in microstructure and chemical composition were observed by electron microscopy and RBS after annealing, the non-uniform Ti redistribution seems to be the reason for a reduced interfacial recombination in the annealed films, as observed by IMPS. This results in a lower onset potential, higher photocurrent and larger fill factor with respect to the as-deposited state. This work provides atomic-scale insights into the microscopic inhomogeneity in Ti-doped hematite thin films and the role of defect segregation in their electrical and photoelectrochemical properties.
