    Si vuole descrivere uno studio per l’adattamento di cavità sotterranee presenti in aree urbane ad alta densità demografica, in food-farm che, attraverso il sistema acquaponico, siano capaci di produrre alimenti vegetali e ittici. Prevedere di sviluppare una produzione agricola in ambito urbano, dove maggiore è la domanda, evitando il crescente consumo di suolo agricolo, permette una riduzione delle operazioni di trasporto e stoccaggio migliorando la sostenibilità della catena di approvvigionamento, offrendo inoltre la possibilità di generare nuove comunità sociali di produttori-consumatori, attive sul fronte dell’educazione alimentare. Il sistema che si intende sviluppare, grazie all’integrazione locale tra produzione, consumo e vendita potrebbe fornire una soluzione, che successivamente all’esperienza vissuta con la Pandemia da Covid-19, rappresenta un modello potenzialmente reattivo rispetto a future, imprevedibili, crisi di fragilità sistemiche. Si tratta di un progetto sperimentale che si intende attuare in una delle cavità del Rione Sanità (Napoli) implementando il processo di sviluppo del territorio avviato dalle comunità, la cui azione sistemica è guidata dalla Fondazione di Comunità San Gennaro.

    Authors: FAIS, LUKIA;

    The Thesis has the general aim to inquire on tall buildings in relation to the quest for a more sustainable future, by going through research on their potential capability to produce energy from renewable sources. The final result is a systematic framework of tall buildings morphological and functional features related to building and renewable energy sources systems, and identifies critical elements and design variables as well, usefull for comparing tall buildings with targets such as Net Zero Energy Building and Plus Energy Building. The thesis is divided into three thematic areas. First of all, it investigates the tall buildings’ embodied and operational energy, by going through the most up-to-date literature and post occupancy evaluation data. The specific aim is to identify innovatory architectural strategies aimed at enhancing the energy efficiency of tall buildings. The second part of the research looks into the potential that tall buildings have of generating power from renewable sources. On the basis of an analysis of the technologies for generating power from renewable energy sources, the criticalities and the potential of each system implemented in tall buildings have been highlighted, focusing on the key issues of integration, maintenance and safety. Finally, a targeted selection of case studies, both built and experimental designs, are aimed to outline the state of the art, in terms of the implementation of renewable energy generation systems in tall buildings.

    Authors: MILANA, GIULIANO;

    The study of the dietary changes which have intervened over the years in generalist and opportunist predators may provide useful information on the temporal modifications of their prey communities, especially under a climate change scenario. In this study, we analyzed the quantitative changes in the small mammals portion of the diet of two generalist and opportunist predators, the Barn owl (Tyto alba) and the Asp viper (Vipera aspis), in a forest zone in central Italy, for the period respectively 1987-2010 and 1975-2008. Concerning the Barn Owl, studied through the analysis of its pellets, there was no apparent change over the years, except for an increasing trend of syn-anthropic species Mus musculus domesticus and Rattus rattus. Similarly Microtus savii, a typical rodent of agroteriocoenoses, doesn’t show significant variations over the years. However, since I did not obtain a longitudinal long-term dataset on Barn owl pellets, I tested the methodology through a longitudinal sampling (for 30 years) at two Spanish areas. In this case it was possible to record a significant increase in two termoxerofilic species, Mus spretus and Crocidura russula, during the period analyzed. However, correlating this increase with thermopluviometric data for the same Iberian areas there wasn’t a significant correlation. As regards the analysis of the diet of the Viper, this issue was also studied through the analysis of ingesta, for a longitudinal period of 20 years. Among the various taxa eaten by vipers, only two showed significantly consistent trends over the years, with Myodes glareolus increasing and Sorex spp. declining in the viper diet. Despite being temperate-zone forest-associated species, hence likely adversed by global warming, Sorex spp. and Myodes glareolus showed opposite trends over the years, thus suggesting that such trends may reflect more local scale perturbations (local forest overgrowth and diminution of logging). I also found a significantly positive relationship between small mammals abundance in the field and their relative frequency of occurrence in the viper’s diet, thus demonstrating that vipers really sampled the small mammal species in relation to their local availability. However, global warming has certainly had an effect on the activity rhythms of predators: for example, some aspects of the annual phenology of the same populations of Viper studied for the diet have changed over the years according to patterns related to the global warming. This work therefore show the effectiveness of some indirect sampling methods in the study of temporal variations in small mammals highlighting some relevant limitations. We also tried to investigate the human impact through mutagenetic tests (micronucleus test on peripheral blood) and investigations in relation to bioaccumulation of trace elements in wild rodents. For this kind of analysis we made three different trapping sessions of small mammals in two areas: Canale Monterano and Civitavecchia. These areas are characterized by different conditions of anthropic impact: - about Civitavecchia (Santagostino) we are in a mostly urbanized and man-made environment in relation with the presence of the largest european energy hub consisting of the Torvaldaliga power plants. - about Canale Monterano there is a situation of greater naturalness, with agricultural areas, pastures and forest patches. With regard to the accumulation of trace elements analysis were conducted on the hair of small mammals captured and on the bones from barn owl’s pellets. The results show some significant differences for the two locations examined, in particular for the site of Canale Monterano readings are significantly higher in bone samples for the following elements Tl, Th and U due to the geology of the area, while, on the hair is confirmed a difference to Tl as well as a higher concentration of Pb in samples of Civitavecchia. This result is very interesting because it is directly attributable to the higher vehicular traffic and industrial pollution of Civitavecchia. The other important data concerne the concentrations of Mn, which could be due to use of fungicides in agriculture. With regard to micronucleus test, on erythrocytes from circulating blood, analysis showed a generalized genetic damage (from 0 to 8 MN in 1000 MNE) for both locations, according to the Mackey & MacGregor (1979) index used as reference (MNE/1000 ≥ 2), suggesting an alteration of the overall environmental situation

    Authors: ROMANO, VALENTINA;

    Lo studio realizzato è suddiviso in 3 fasi storiche: il passato, il contemporaneo, la prospettiva con la presentazione di un progetto esempio di costruzione eco-compatibile. Lo strumento di lavoro è la descrizione dei sistemi e delle metodologie di costruzione dei periodi considerati, il loro raffronto, l’individuazione nell’antico delle tecniche migliori e delle potenzialità tecnologiche del moderno fino alla presentazione di un caso concreto che rappresenta la sintesi tra vecchio e nuovo, tra la tradizione e il futuro, con una attenzione particolare all’impatto ambientale ed all’efficienza energetica. L’obiettivo è quella di individuare, dopo una analisi dettagliata di ogni fattore esterno (clima, posizione geografica, composizione del terreno, ecc) ed interno (materiali, distribuzione interna, rapporto tra edificio e natura ecc.. ) della costruzione, le linee guida di una “progettazione intelligente” capace di coniugare passato, presente e futuro per soddisfare le nuove esigenze dell’uomo, per una migliore qualità della vita e dell’ambiente naturale ed urbano, utilizzando le soluzioni e le possibilità offerte dalle nuove tecnologie. Ogni periodo viene analizzato sotto il profilo storico, sociale, religioso, ambientale ed urbanistico poiché tutti questi elementi hanno profondamente influito sulla progettazione e sulla costruzione sia nel passato che nel presente sia di edifici residenziali privati sia di grandi edifici pubblici. Si può addirittura affermare che l’analisi della progettazione architettonica rappresenta l’immagine visiva e, in alcuni casi, ancora tangibile, dei mutamenti e dello sviluppo di un popolo: la base di partenza e di arrivo delle civiltà orientali ed occidentali, i punti di contatto, le influenze reciproche, le differenze sociali e religiose, l’inclinazione economica, ciò che si è definitivamente perduto e ciò che si cerca di recuperare. Dalla costruzione della propria casa, elemento primario dei bisogni dell’uomo, si passa alla realizzazione di nuclei abitativi più estesi, poi di nuclei comuni privati o di uso pubblico, destinati a soddisfare esigenze amministrative, politiche, sociali e religiose fino a giungere alla progettazione di città intere o, anche solo, di elementi che la rappresentano, la trasformano, la rendono riconoscibile al mondo, con l’obiettivo di “pensare” all’uomo ed al contesto urbano ed ambientale. La prima fase analizza il “costruito” passato, è uno studio sul tessuto urbano, sui materiali e sulle tecnologie bio compatibili utilizzate nella costruzione di edifici storici presenti sul territorio oggi iraniano, fortemente influenzato dalla religione islamica. L’analisi evidenzia come a seguito dello sviluppo demografico, politico ed economico del territorio siano andate dimenticate, o addirittura perse, la tipologia stessa di costruzione e le tecniche tradizionali utilizzate nel territorio, sostituite dalla costruzione di edifici alti a scarsissima se non nulla sostenibilità ambientale. E’ emerso così che per privilegiare il potenziale ruolo chiave dell’edificio alto con riferimento alle richieste di una crescente popolazione, si è attuato uno sviluppo incontrollato del territorio che ha danneggiato aree importanti sia sotto il profilo dell’architettura che dell’ambiente. Ma si è anche visto che oggi è possibile, attraverso tecniche di ristrutturazione e ammodernamento tecnologico, restituire alla città edifici nuovamente compatibili e, in alcuni casi, anche autosufficienti. La seconda fase analizza il “costruito” contemporaneo, si colloca in una dimensione temporale che va dagli anni 50 ai prossimi 10 anni ed investe da una parte, le fasi dello sviluppo urbano incontrollato e, dall’altra, i primi esempi di architettura eco – compatibile. Ci si sofferma sul raffronto tra la realtà contemporanea occidentale ed asiatica e tra essa e il passato medio-orientale. Si approfondisce la possibilità di recuperare ed utilizzare in chiave moderna i sistemi costruttivi che sembravano perduti al fine della riproposizione di soluzioni “naturali” ed “ecocompatibili” in grado di far ritrovare un più equilibrato rapporto con la natura e l’ambiente, capaci di generare una migliore qualità della vita. In questa parte della ricerca viene inserito lo studio di fattibilità di riqualificazione di edifici esistenti al fine di renderli sostenibili e vengono descritte le caratteristiche dei numerosi materiali utilizzabili. Ci si sofferma, poi, ampiamente, sulle linee guida dettate dall’Unione Europea in materia di risparmio energetico, considerato questo una delle priorità dell’azione di governo di tutti i paesi UE, in considerazione dei consumi crescenti uniti ad una non illimitata disponibilità di risorse energetiche. La terza fase, denominata prospettiva, basata sullo strumento del benchmarking, pone a confronto/raffronto le “eccellenze” esistenti nel campo della progettazione architettonica. Ciò consente di individuare gli elementi cardine di una progettazione intelligente e moderna, di evidenziare le potenzialità ancora non del tutto sfruttate, di comprendere gli orientamenti e le tendenze future. Accanto al genio creativo ed al design, una differenza sostanziale sarà data dai fattori ricerca ed innovazione, identificativi di una architettura di prospettiva. Questa parte della ricerca presenta, inoltre, una analisi ed un confronto sulle nuove tecnologie di produzione di energia da fonti rinnovabili allo scopo di individuare la configurazione più vantaggiosa in termini di applicabilità nella progettazione di un edificio alto. L’analisi viene effettuata tramite grafici che descrivono le prestazioni tra contemporaneo e passato, così da identificare anche visivamente, in modo immediato, quali sono gli elementi da migliorare. Le fasi di indagine riguardano: l’architettura, la tecnologia, i materiali. Gli edifici scelti per il confronto sono gli edifici storici che si sviluppano in pianta e gli edifici contemporanei che si sviluppano in altezza. Questo per sottolineare come il costruito rispecchi i mutamenti delle esigenze di vita delle persone. Lo studio si sofferma anche sulla multi-funzionalità che si può ottenere grazie ad uno sviluppo del fabbricato in altezza: come conciliare la funzione abitativa con quella del lavoro e dei servizi. Una ulteriore analisi riveste il rapporto con l’ambiente circostante in modo da non aggredirlo ma anzi, da coinvolgere ed integrare. Lo studio si pone, infatti, anche l’obiettivo di ricercare un più intenso legame tra ambiente e nuova costruzione. Il progetto che viene presentato è la sintesi della risposta che la progettazione architettonica può offrire alle nuove esigenze dell’uomo e della natura, attraverso l’utilizzo delle migliori tecniche e metodologie analizzate. Le linee guida per la progettazione sostenibile, individuate nella tesi, permettono di operare un trasferimento tecnologico dal passato alla prospettiva, sia nel campo della progettazione che della tecnologia. Un modello esportabile che funga da stimolo alla cooperazione tra territori per assicurare crescita, sostenere la coesione territoriale e contribuire attivamente alla protezione dell'ambiente in una logica di sviluppo sostenibile.

    In the last years an increase in thyroid nodules detection has been reported from several epidemiological studies. This trend is largely due to the routine use of diagnostic sonography procedures in clinical practice. Thyroid nodules, both palpable or not palpable, rarely turn out to be malignant. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAc) plays a central role in establishing the nature of the nodule. Excluded the presence of malignant lesions, which are generally treated with surgery, physicians are faced with a variety of therapeutic options, and choosing the optimal approach can be a difficult task. These include a periodic follow-up alone without treatment, the iodine supplementation, the thyroid-hormone suppressive therapy, the radioiodine administration, the percutaneous ethanol injections, and the new technique of laser photocoagulation. In all cases, decisions on the management of benign thyroid nodules should always be based on clinical target and a careful analysis of benefits and risks to the patient.
