Valundersökningen 1976 är den sjunde riksomfattande studien i serien undersökningar kring partival, valdeltagande och politisk opinionsbildning inom den svenska valmanskåren i samband med ett riksdagsval. Denna undersökninga genomfördes i samarbete mellan statsvetenskapliga institutionen vid Uppsala universitet och statistiska centralbyrån. 1976 års undersökning är den första valundersökning som täcker kärnkraftsfrågan, ett ämne som under många år var en av de centrala politiska frågorna i Sverige. Undersökningen innehåller ett stort antal frågor om hur olika samhällsgrupper behandlas av de olika politiska partierna. Den innehåller även ett antal frågor om olika gruppers och organisationers inflytande i samhället. I samband med 1976 års undersökning introducerades ett antal frågor som sedan ställts i samtliga, eller nästan samtliga, valundersökningar som genomförts därefter. Dessa frågor behandlar respondentens inställning till en rad ämnen såsom, daghem, pornografi, förstatligande, militärutgifter, företagsamhet och skatter. Syfte: Förklara varför väljare röstar som de gör och varför val slutar som de gör. Spåra och följa trender i svensk valdemokrati och göra jämförelser med utvecklingen i andra länder. This study is part of the collection of Swedish election studies fielded continuously since 1956. The 1976 study was the first election study to cover the nuclear power issue, an issue which for many years became one of the central political issues in Sweden. This study also includes a large number of questions on how different groups in society are treated by different political parties, it also includes a number of questions on different groups´ and organizations´ influence in society. This study introduces a number of questions, asked in all or nearly all of the election studies since then, about the respondent´s opinion on different issues such as day-care centers, pornography, socialization, defence expenditures, private enterprise, and taxes. Purpose: Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Track and follow trends in the Swedish electoral democracy and make comparisons with other countries.

Planted forests can contribute to more sustainable practices and help addressing some of these issues. In order to be able to profit from these benefits sustainably, production rates of forest regeneration materials should be higher than the harvesting rates. Nevertheless, intensive production methods often bring along adverse consequences for the environment. At the moment, there exist several options such as greenhouses or plant growth chambers that allow producing forest materials more rapidly. Unfortunately these systems consume considerable high amounts of energy for lighting, acclimatization and irrigation having a negative impact on the environment. The Zephyr project aims to introduce an innovative technology built on pre-cultivation of forest regeneration materials in a zero-impact and cost-friendly production unit. The project will integrate several technologies into a functional and transportable system for large scale production of pre-cultivated forest regeneration materials adapted to transplanting and further growth at forest nurseries. A transportable and closed incubator independent from the outdoor climate provides a better control on the seedlings production. The plants can be produced directly at the place where they are needed avoiding further transportation to the reforestation/afforestation zone. The closed-climate allows seedlings pre-cultivation in places where it would not be possible otherwise (e.g. near deserts). Additionally, it extends the production time throughout the whole year even during the winter. Moreover, it will allow a certified and standardized production of reforestation materials, with a noticeable increasing of the efficiency of the reforestation operations. Specially developed LED growth lamps and wireless sensors will be used to reduce energy consumption and monitor the cultivation process. The main part of the energy will be provided by solar PV-panels, depending from the geographic and climatic area the power system should be able to provide at least one day of autonomy (in central Europe). The energy savings will result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; moreover, since the LED lamps do not produce additional warming, there will be further energy saving through the reduction of air conditioning costs. The PV system is designed based on the load specifications of the different subsystems involved for advanced state-of-art pre-cultivation of forest seedlings. It will be further evaluated based on the changes in the load profiles as the growth protocols for different species are defined. The main objectives are to maximize the power/energy flow delivered to the load and to investigate feasible options for an external backup power source whilst considering options to reduce the overall load of the system.

Presentation Abstract: Extreme heat was observed and experienced across large portions of the United States in 2021, including during notable record-breaking events in the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and along the East coast. The contiguous US experienced its hottest June on record, and excess heat related deaths stretched into the thousands. While more frequent and intense periods of extreme heat are expected consequences of anthropogenic climate change, rapidly and continuously assessing the degree to which human emissions of greenhouse gases increase the likelihood of a specific event remains a challenging technical process. In this study we introduce the Realtime Climate attribution framework and illustrate its application through an analysis of observed 2021 extreme heat events. The framework implements one model-based and two observation-based approaches to produce three distinct attribution assessments, including best estimates and uncertainties. The framework is designed to be flexible across a range of variables and scales, computationally lightweight, and adaptable for impact studies. Using a suite of global climate models, observed global mean temperatures, and local observed daily temperatures, we quantify the extent to which human-driven climate change made 2021 maximum and minimum daily temperature extremes more likely across the United States. Results confirm the continued and growing influence of human-driven climate change in local weather extremes. For instance, we find that the record-breaking high temperatures in June near Phoenix, AZ, were at least 3.25 times more likely because of human activity. Through this framework, we are building the capacity to produce attribution estimates while an event is unfolding. Furthermore, the ability to estimate attribution levels continuously will enhance studies of extreme heat impacts on human health, along with other socioeconomic or influences.

The main idea here is to convert solar energy into electricity. One type of solar cell that shows potential in replacing today’s crystalline silicon cells is the thin film solar cell (TFSC). Yet, the sun absorbing semiconductors used in the commercial TFSCs contain scarce elements such as indium, cadmium and tellurium, which may cause problems if the technique is going to grow to a big scale energy producer. Earth abundant sun absorbing materials are therefore of great interest, and several possible replacements are under investigation. In this project two olivine structured ternary metal chalcogenides were investigated: manganese silicon sulfide (Mn2SiS4) and iron silicon sulfide (Fe2SiS4). The goal was to deposit thin films by reactive magnetron sputtering from manganese/iron and silicon targets with mixture of Ar and H2S gas. Afterwards the films were crystallized by a sulfurization process at high temperature. The samples were created with a composition gradient and investigated by SEM, EDS and XRD. Results showed that a single phase of Mn2SiS4 was successfully created in thin film form for the first time. Multiple attempts on manufacturing Fe2SiS4 were performed, but didn't show sufficient progress yet. The analysis showed formation of pyrite (FeS2), pyrrhotite (Fe1-xS, x<0.2) and SiS2 phases instead of the targeted material. In both cases it is important to provide additional studies to determine if the selected compounds could be used as an absorber layer in TFSC structures.

Several tools and methodologies are nowadays available both for the assessment of building demands and for individuating the optimal retrofit solution, but usually they are not user-friendly or applicable to a cluster of buildings. In this context, this paper aims at describing a methodology developed to generate a matrix of solutions for typical building and HVAC systems in different climatic conditions. The results are collected in a database. The studied building typologies concern single family houses, multi-family houses and offices. Envelope renovation measures are firstly applied in order to reduce the building demands; afterwards, efficient HVAC systems are implemented. Air-to-water heat pump, ground source heat pump, condensing and pellet boilers are studied. The contribution of solar technologies, thermal panels and PV is also accounted for. Per building typology, climate and renovation package, the database reports energetic, economic and environmental indicators. The database is available on-line, it can be consulted by researchers or technicians of the retrofit sector for comparing different renovation packages and helping during the decision making process. The cofactor ('H-cluster') of [FeFe]-hydrogenases consists of a [4Fe-4S] cluster bridged to a unique [2Fe] subcluster whose biosynthesis in vivo requires hydrogenase-specific maturases. Here we show that a chemical mimic of the [2Fe] subcluster can reconstitute apo-hydrogenase to full activity, independent of helper proteins. The objective of sustainable development will require active participation from the citizens, and from this perspective the private consumption has come into focus. The experience of consumption and sustainable development has this far been a disappointment. The individual’s consumption habits and preferences are difficult to change, as well as localizing shopping malls in the outskirts of cities and increasing the reliance of cars. There are a lot of different barriers which could be an obstacle for the principles of a sustainable development to have an impact on the private consumption behaviour. The study “Sustainable Citizenship 2009” focuses on how the Swedish citizens of today consider their own role as consumers in the context of the principles of sustainable development. This makes it possible to analyse which role knowledge and value has on the consumptions possibilities and obstacles to contribute to a sustainable development. “Sustainable Citizenship” deals specifically about how citizens use and value information, and about personal responsibility for sustainable development. Purpose: To contribute with new knowledge about the obstacles and possibilities which affect how Swedish citizens could act in a sustainable way. Målet om en hållbar utveckling kräver medborgarens aktiva medverkan och detta har gjort att inte minst den privata konsumtionen har kommit i blickfånget. Erfarenheterna kring konsumtion och hållbar utveckling har hittills varit mycket nedslående. Individers konsumtionsvanor är svårföränderliga samt att lokaliseringen av köpcentrum i utkanten av tätorter som leder till mer biltrafik. Det finns många olika slags barriärer som hindrar principerna om en hållbar utveckling att få genomslag i de privata konsumtionsmönstren. Studien "Hållbart medborgarskap 2009" fokuserar på hur dagens svenska medborgare uppfattar sig själva i sin roll som konsumenter i ljuset av principerna för hållbar utveckling. Detta gör det möjligt att granska vilken roll kunskap och värdering spelar för konsumtionens möjligheter och hinder för att bidra till en hållbar utveckling. Specifikt handlar det om hur medborgaren använder och värderar information, personligt ansvar för hållbar utveckling samt hur individens värdesystem påverkar dess praktiska handlande. Syfte: Att bidra med ny kunskap om de hinder och möjligheter som påverkar hur svenska medborgare kan agera på ett hållbart sätt.

Valundersökningen 1976 är den sjunde riksomfattande studien i serien undersökningar kring partival, valdeltagande och politisk opinionsbildning inom den svenska valmanskåren i samband med ett riksdagsval. Denna undersökninga genomfördes i samarbete mellan statsvetenskapliga institutionen vid Uppsala universitet och statistiska centralbyrån. 1976 års undersökning är den första valundersökning som täcker kärnkraftsfrågan, ett ämne som under många år var en av de centrala politiska frågorna i Sverige. Undersökningen innehåller ett stort antal frågor om hur olika samhällsgrupper behandlas av de olika politiska partierna. Den innehåller även ett antal frågor om olika gruppers och organisationers inflytande i samhället. I samband med 1976 års undersökning introducerades ett antal frågor som sedan ställts i samtliga, eller nästan samtliga, valundersökningar som genomförts därefter. This study is part of the collection of Swedish election studies fielded continuously since 1956. The 1976 study was the first election study to cover the nuclear power issue, an issue which for many years became one of the central political issues in Sweden. This study also includes a large number of questions on how different groups in society are treated by different political parties, it also includes a number of questions on different groups´ and organizations´ influence in society. This study introduces a number of questions, asked in all or nearly all of the election studies since then, about the respondent´s opinion on different issues such as day-care centers, pornography, socialization, defence expenditures, private enterprise, and taxes. Purpose: Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Track and follow trends in the Swedish electoral democracy and make comparisons with other countries.

Planted forests can contribute to more sustainable practices and help addressing some of these issues. In order to be able to profit from these benefits sustainably, production rates of forest regeneration materials should be higher than the harvesting rates. Nevertheless, intensive production methods often bring along adverse consequences for the environment. At the moment, there exist several options such as greenhouses or plant growth chambers that allow producing forest materials more rapidly. Unfortunately these systems consume considerable high amounts of energy for lighting, acclimatization and irrigation having a negative impact on the environment. The Zephyr project aims to introduce an innovative technology built on pre-cultivation of forest regeneration materials in a zero-impact and cost-friendly production unit. The project will integrate several technologies into a functional and transportable system for large scale production of pre-cultivated forest regeneration materials adapted to transplanting and further growth at forest nurseries. A transportable and closed incubator independent from the outdoor climate provides a better control on the seedlings production. The plants can be produced directly at the place where they are needed avoiding further transportation to the reforestation/afforestation zone. The closed-climate allows seedlings pre-cultivation in places where it would not be possible otherwise (e.g. near deserts). Additionally, it extends the production time throughout the whole year even during the winter. Moreover, it will allow a certified and standardized production of reforestation materials, with a noticeable increasing of the efficiency of the reforestation operations. Specially developed LED growth lamps and wireless sensors will be used to reduce energy consumption and monitor the cultivation process. The main part of the energy will be provided by solar PV-panels, depending from the geographic and climatic area the power system should be able to provide at least one day of autonomy (in central Europe). The energy savings will result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; moreover, since the LED lamps do not produce additional warming, there will be further energy saving through the reduction of air conditioning costs. The PV system is designed based on the load specifications of the different subsystems involved for advanced state-of-art pre-cultivation of forest seedlings. It will be further evaluated based on the changes in the load profiles as the growth protocols for different species are defined. The main objectives are to maximize the power/energy flow delivered to the load and to investigate feasible options for an external backup power source whilst considering options to reduce the overall load of the system.

Presentation Abstract: Extreme heat was observed and experienced across large portions of the United States in 2021, including during notable record-breaking events in the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and along the East coast. The contiguous US experienced its hottest June on record, and excess heat related deaths stretched into the thousands. While more frequent and intense periods of extreme heat are expected consequences of anthropogenic climate change, rapidly and continuously assessing the degree to which human emissions of greenhouse gases increase the likelihood of a specific event remains a challenging technical process. In this study we introduce the Realtime Climate attribution framework and illustrate its application through an analysis of observed 2021 extreme heat events. The framework implements one model-based and two observation-based approaches to produce three distinct attribution assessments, including best estimates and uncertainties. The framework is designed to be flexible across a range of variables and scales, computationally lightweight, and adaptable for impact studies. Using a suite of global climate models, observed global mean temperatures, and local observed daily temperatures, we quantify the extent to which human-driven climate change made 2021 maximum and minimum daily temperature extremes more likely across the United States. Results confirm the continued and growing influence of human-driven climate change in local weather extremes. For instance, we find that the record-breaking high temperatures in June near Phoenix, AZ, were at least 3.25 times more likely because of human activity. Through this framework, we are building the capacity to produce attribution estimates while an event is unfolding. Furthermore, the ability to estimate attribution levels continuously will enhance studies of extreme heat impacts on human health, along with other socioeconomic or influences.

The main idea here is to convert solar energy into electricity. One type of solar cell that shows potential in replacing today’s crystalline silicon cells is the thin film solar cell (TFSC). Yet, the sun absorbing semiconductors used in the commercial TFSCs contain scarce elements such as indium, cadmium and tellurium, which may cause problems if the technique is going to grow to a big scale energy producer. Earth abundant sun absorbing materials are therefore of great interest, and several possible replacements are under investigation. In this project two olivine structured ternary metal chalcogenides were investigated: manganese silicon sulfide (Mn2SiS4) and iron silicon sulfide (Fe2SiS4). The goal was to deposit thin films by reactive magnetron sputtering from manganese/iron and silicon targets with mixture of Ar and H2S gas. Afterwards the films were crystallized by a sulfurization process at high temperature. The samples were created with a composition gradient and investigated by SEM, EDS and XRD. Results showed that a single phase of Mn2SiS4 was successfully created in thin film form for the first time. Multiple attempts on manufacturing Fe2SiS4 were performed, but didn't show sufficient progress yet. The analysis showed formation of pyrite (FeS2), pyrrhotite (Fe1-xS, x<0.2) and SiS2 phases instead of the targeted material. In both cases it is important to provide additional studies to determine if the selected compounds could be used as an absorber layer in TFSC structures.

Several tools and methodologies are nowadays available both for the assessment of building demands and for individuating the optimal retrofit solution, but usually they are not user-friendly or applicable to a cluster of buildings. In this context, this paper aims at describing a methodology developed to generate a matrix of solutions for typical building and HVAC systems in different climatic conditions. The results are collected in a database. The studied building typologies concern single family houses, multi-family houses and offices. Envelope renovation measures are firstly applied in order to reduce the building demands; afterwards, efficient HVAC systems are implemented. Air-to-water heat pump, ground source heat pump, condensing and pellet boilers are studied. The contribution of solar technologies, thermal panels and PV is also accounted for. Per building typology, climate and renovation package, the database reports energetic, economic and environmental indicators. The database is available on-line, it can be consulted by researchers or technicians of the retrofit sector for comparing different renovation packages and helping during the decision making process. The cofactor ('H-cluster') of [FeFe]-hydrogenases consists of a [4Fe-4S] cluster bridged to a unique [2Fe] subcluster whose biosynthesis in vivo requires hydrogenase-specific maturases. Here we show that a chemical mimic of the [2Fe] subcluster can reconstitute apo-hydrogenase to full activity, independent of helper proteins. The assembled H-cluster is virtually indistinguishable from the native cofactor. This procedure will be a powerful tool for developing new artificial H-2-producing catalysts. AuthorCount:13;

The objective of sustainable development will require active participation from the citizens, and from this perspective the private consumption has come into focus. The experience of consumption and sustainable development has this far been a disappointment. The individual’s consumption habits and preferences are difficult to change, as well as localizing shopping malls in the outskirts of cities and increasing the reliance of cars. There are a lot of different barriers which could be an obstacle for the principles of a sustainable development to have an impact on the private consumption behaviour. The study “Sustainable Citizenship 2009” focuses on how the Swedish citizens of today consider their own role as consumers in the context of the principles of sustainable development. This makes it possible to analyse which role knowledge and value has on the consumptions possibilities and obstacles to contribute to a sustainable development. “Sustainable Citizenship” deals specifically about how citizens use and value information, and about personal responsibility for sustainable development. Purpose: To contribute with new knowledge about the obstacles and possibilities which affect how Swedish citizens could act in a sustainable way. Målet om en hållbar utveckling kräver medborgarens aktiva medverkan och detta har gjort att inte minst den privata konsumtionen har kommit i blickfånget. Erfarenheterna kring konsumtion och hållbar utveckling har hittills varit mycket nedslående. Individers konsumtionsvanor är svårföränderliga samt att lokaliseringen av köpcentrum i utkanten av tätorter som leder till mer biltrafik. Det finns många olika slags barriärer som hindrar principerna om en hållbar utveckling att få genomslag i de privata konsumtionsmönstren. Studien "Hållbart medborgarskap 2009" fokuserar på hur dagens svenska medborgare uppfattar sig själva i sin roll som konsumenter i ljuset av principerna för hållbar utveckling. Detta gör det möjligt att granska vilken roll kunskap och värdering spelar för konsumtionens möjligheter och hinder för att bidra till en hållbar utveckling. Specifikt handlar det om hur medborgaren använder och värderar information, personligt ansvar för hållbar utveckling samt hur individens värdesystem påverkar dess praktiska handlande. Syfte: Att bidra med ny kunskap om de hinder och möjligheter som påverkar hur svenska medborgare kan agera på ett hållbart sätt.
