description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2021Publisher:Elsevier BV Abstract Accurate installed capacity forecasting can provide effective decision-making support for planning development strategies and establishing national electricity policies. First, considering the data limitation in quantity and accuracy, this paper proposes a multi-factor installed capacity forecasting framework combining the fuzzy time series method and support vector regression. Compared with four benchmark models, the proposed model shows advantages in installed capacity prediction. Second, the predictability dynamics of national installed capacity are explored from the perspective of country clusters. It is revealed that highly predictable countries usually obtain high forecasting accuracy with all forecasting models and are less sensitive to forecasting models. Using the k-means clustering method, this paper divides 136 sample countries into four categories according to the predictability. Third, based on the mean impact value analysis, this paper differentiates and ranks the importance of input variables on installed capacity development. The two most important factors influencing installed capacity are installed capacity development in the previous period and population. Overall, these results are of practical value to the operating decisions of electric power enterprises and the electricity plans of governments.

Multiple cracking furnaces are used to convert various hydrocarbon feedstocks to smaller hydrocarbon molecules, and the operational conditions of these furnaces significantly influence product yields and fuel consumption. This paper develops a multiobjective operational model for an industrial cracking furnace system that describes the operation of each furnace based on current feedstock allocations, and uses this model to optimize two important and conflicting objectives: maximization of key products yield, and minimization of the fuel consumed per unit ethylene. The model incorporates constraints related to material balance and the outlet temperature of transfer line exchanger. The self-adaptive multiobjective teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm is improved and used to solve the designed multiobjective optimization problem, obtaining a Pareto front with a diverse range of solutions. A real industrial case is investigated to illustrate the performance of the proposed model: the set of solutions returned offers a diverse range of options for possible implementation, including several solutions with both significant improvement in product yields and lower fuel consumption, compared with typical operational conditions.

To explore more effective application method of the heat recovery IEC, an energy and exergy transfer model for IEC operating as a heat recovery devices was proposed in this study. The thermal performance and exergy transfer characteristics of three basic types of IECs: cross-flow, counter-flow, and parallel-flow IECs were numerically investigated. The results show that the irreversible heat transfer in the primary air channels and the irreversible mass transfer in the secondary air channels are the main causes of exergy loss. These two factors account for more than 90% of the total exergy destruction in all the three types of IECs. To alleviate this situation and improve the energy efficiency of the IEC, two two-stage modified heat recovery systems which combine IEC with sensible heat exchanger and energy recovery exchanger were proposed and numerical analyzed. The simulation results show that, for the modified systems, the exergy transfer efficiency is increased by 104.6% and 131.7%, while the heat transfer capacity is increased by 47.6% and 48.5%, respectively.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2012Publisher:Elsevier BV Authors: Jialong Wang; Sheng Li; Jingyi Wu;Abstract As the practical load conditions vary with time, the performance of micro combined cooling heating and power (micro-CCHP) system depends a lot on the operation strategy. So, it is significant to study the system performance and find the optimal operation strategies for various load conditions. There are many devices can be considered in micro-CCHP system. In this study, a comprehensive micro-CCHP system is built, basing on gas engine and adsorption chiller. Auxiliary devices, such as gas boiler, heat pump and electric chiller, are also considered in the study of operational optimization. In order to find the optimal operation strategies and discuss why they are the optimal ones, a mixed-integer non-linear programming model is developed. Energy saving ratio and cost saving ratio are chosen as the objectives and they are calculated hierarchically. Operation strategies under various load conditions are analyzed in detail and two dimensional distributions of system performance are presented. Results show that, optimal operation strategy changes with load conditions for energy saving optimization while it also changes with energy prices for cost saving optimization. For energy saving optimization, micro-CCHP system is always superior to conventional separated system when the heating load is over 12 kW in CHP (combined heating and power) mode or over 21 kW in CCHP mode. For cost saving optimization, micro-CCHP system can be superior to conventional separated system when the dimensionless energy price ratio is less than 0.45.

A sequentially coupling finite element analysis (FEA) program is developed to simulate the welding temperature and residual stress. Using this FEA program, four FE models with different bevel are developed to calculate their residual stresses, which are compared to optimize the weld geometry. The results show that complex residual stresses are generated and concentrated in the fillet weld. Using K type bevel with internal concave fillet and outside convex fillet can obtain the minimal residual stress, which provides a reference the fabrication of wind turbines.

However, there is a lack of comparative studies on the individual effects of each factor (e.g., catalysts, reactors) on bio-oil production. In this regard, the catalytic pyrolysis of coconut shell in a fixed-bed reactor and in a microwave reactor using the conventional ZSM-5 and core-shell hierarchical ZSM-5@SBA-15 catalysts was evaluated. With an emphasize on the production of hydrocarbons and phenols, the comparative effect of the core-shell catalyst and microwave reactor was demonstrated. The core-shell catalyst had the dual effect of regulating the bio-oil yield and composition. Compared to conventional ZSM-5 (25) with a SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of 25, the core-shell ZSM-5 (25)@SBA-15 not only increased the bio-oil yield by at least 40%, but also approximately doubled the production of hydrocarbons, irrespective of the reactor type. In contrast, the microwave reactor played a greater role in regulating the bio-oil composition. Irrespective of the catalyst used, the fixed-bed reactor tended to generate phenolic-rich bio-oil, while the microwave reactor sharply reduced the phenol selectivity by at least doubling that for aromatics.

The presence of hematite particles evidently facilitated to biomass gasification. Comparing with biomass steam gasification (BSG), carbon conversion and gas yield increased by 7.47% and 11.02%, respectively, and tar content lowered by 51.53%, in BGLO with an S/B of 0.85 at 800 °C. In this case, 62.30% of the lattice oxygen in the hematite particles was consumed in the biomass gasification. The reaction temperature, steam-to-biomass ratio (S/B) and reaction time on the performance of hematite particles were extensively investigated, in terms of gas distribution, heating value, yield and carbon conversion. With the reaction temperature increasing from 750 to 850 °C, the gas yield increased from1.12 to 1.53Nm3/kg, and carbon conversion increased from 77.21% to 95.49%. An optimal S/B ratio of 0.85 was obtained in order to maximize the carbon conversion and gas yield of BGLO. At this ratio, the gas yield reached 1.41Nm3/kg with carbon conversion of 92.98%. The gas concentration was gradually close to that of BSG at the end stage of BGLO due to the active lattice oxygen was depleted with the proceeding of reactions.
