    Conventional protection schemes in the distribution system are liable to suffer from high penetration of renewable energy source-based distributed generation (RES-DG). The characteristics of RES-DG, such as wind turbine generators (WTGs), are stochastic due to the intermittent behavior of wind dynamics (WD). It can fluctuate the fault current level, which in turn creates the overcurrent relay coordination (ORC) problem. In this paper, the effects of WD such as wind speed and direction on the short-circuit current contribution from a WTG is investigated, and a robust adaptive overcurrent relay coordination scheme is proposed by forecasting the WD. The seasonal autoregression integrated moving average (SARIMA) and artificial neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) are implemented for forecasting periodic and nonperiodic WD, respectively, and the fault current level is calculated in advance. Furthermore, the ORC problem is optimized using hybrid Harris hawks optimization and linear programming (HHO–LP) to minimize the operating times of relays. The proposed algorithm is tested on the modified IEEE-8 bus system with wind farms, and the overcurrent relay (OCR) miscoordination caused by WD is eliminated. To further prove the effectiveness of the algorithm, it is also tested in a typical wind-farm-integrated substation. Compared to conventional protection schemes, the results of the proposed scheme were found to be promising in fault isolation with a remarkable reduction in the total operation time of relays and zero miscoordination.

    Renewable energy-based distributed generators (DGs) are gaining more penetration in modern grids to meet the growing demand for electrical energy. The anticipated techno-economic benefits of these eco-friendly resources require their judicious and properly sized allocation in distribution networks (DNs). The preeminent objective of this research is to determine the sizing and optimal placing of DGs in the condensed DN of a smart city. The placing and sizing problem is modeled as an optimization problem to reduce the distribution loss without violating the technical constraints. The formulated model is solved for a radial distribution system with a non-uniformly distributed load utilizing the selective particle swarm optimization (SPSO) algorithm. The intended technique decreases the power loss and perfects the voltage profile at the system’s nodes. MATLAB is used for the simulation, and the obtained results are also validated by the Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP). Results show that placing optimally sized DGs at optimal system nodes offers a considerable decline in power loss with an improved voltage profile at the network’s nodes. Distribution system operators can utilize the proposed technique to realize the reliable operation of overloaded urban networks.

    Avec la pénétration de la production distribuée basée sur les sources d'énergie renouvelables (RES-DG) dans le réseau de distribution (DN), le temps de fonctionnement des relais de protection devient une préoccupation majeure pour éviter la mauvaise coordination et le déclenchement intempestif du RES-DG. Il est dû au flux bidirectionnel de courant, à la variance du niveau de courant de défaut, c'est-à-dire un courant de défaut élevé dans le cas du RES-DG basé sur le générateur à induction à cage d'écureuil (SCIG) et un courant de défaut faible pour un RES-DG basé sur un onduleur. Ce document propose une nouvelle surintensité de direction à double réglage définie par l'utilisateur. relais avec des caractéristiques de courant-tension de temps hybride (UDDOR-TCV) pour intensifier la flexibilité du schéma proposé sans aucune assistance de communication pour DN radial. Le modèle proposé est formulé d'une manière d'optimisation non linéaire contrainte et résolu avec le solveur MINLP du logiciel de système de modélisation algébrique générale (GAMS) pour déterminer les paramètres de relais optimaux. Le schéma de protection proposé est simulé sur le système de distribution radiale de bus IEEE-33 et un système local de 40 bus hébergeant les multiples SCIG et PV à base de res-DG à des emplacements optimaux. Des études numériques détaillées sont effectuées pour montrer la performance du schéma proposé.66.848% et Une réduction de 68,26 % du temps de fonctionnement des relais avec zéro erreur de coordination est obtenue avec le cas SCIG-WTG et le cas des unités PV pour le système de bus IEEE-33 et une réduction similaire du temps de fonctionnement est de 68,937 % et 66,563 % pour le système de bus Local-40. De plus, les nombres de relais sont réduits de 32,692 % et 39,7 % pour les systèmes de bus IEEE-33 et Local-40, respectivement, en raison de la capacité de caractéristiques avant/arrière de l'UDDOR-TCV. La performance du schéma proposé est également évaluée sur le DN maillé de bus IEEE-8. Les résultats sont comparés aux schémas de protection existants dans la littérature récente. El modelo propuesto se formula de una manera de optimización no lineal restringida y se resuelve con el solucionador MINLP del software del sistema de modelado algebraico general (GAMS) para determinar los ajustes óptimos del relé. El esquema de protección propuesto se simula en el sistema de distribución radial de bus IEEE-33 y un sistema local de 40 buses que aloja los múltiples RES-DG basados en SCIG y PV en ubicaciones óptimas.     Conventional protection schemes in the distribution system are liable to suffer from high penetration of renewable energy source-based distributed generation (RES-DG). The characteristics of RES-DG, such as wind turbine generators (WTGs), are stochastic due to the intermittent behavior of wind dynamics (WD). It can fluctuate the fault current level, which in turn creates the overcurrent relay coordination (ORC) problem. In this paper, the effects of WD such as wind speed and direction on the short-circuit current contribution from a WTG is investigated, and a robust adaptive overcurrent relay coordination scheme is proposed by forecasting the WD. The seasonal autoregression integrated moving average (SARIMA) and artificial neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) are implemented for forecasting periodic and nonperiodic WD, respectively, and the fault current level is calculated in advance. Furthermore, the ORC problem is optimized using hybrid Harris hawks optimization and linear programming (HHO–LP) to minimize the operating times of relays. The proposed algorithm is tested on the modified IEEE-8 bus system with wind farms, and the overcurrent relay (OCR) miscoordination caused by WD is eliminated. To further prove the effectiveness of the algorithm, it is also tested in a typical wind-farm-integrated substation. Compared to conventional protection schemes, the results of the proposed scheme were found to be promising in fault isolation with a remarkable reduction in the total operation time of relays and zero miscoordination.

    Renewable energy-based distributed generators (DGs) are gaining more penetration in modern grids to meet the growing demand for electrical energy. The anticipated techno-economic benefits of these eco-friendly resources require their judicious and properly sized allocation in distribution networks (DNs). The preeminent objective of this research is to determine the sizing and optimal placing of DGs in the condensed DN of a smart city. The placing and sizing problem is modeled as an optimization problem to reduce the distribution loss without violating the technical constraints. The formulated model is solved for a radial distribution system with a non-uniformly distributed load utilizing the selective particle swarm optimization (SPSO) algorithm. The intended technique decreases the power loss and perfects the voltage profile at the system’s nodes. MATLAB is used for the simulation, and the obtained results are also validated by the Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP). Results show that placing optimally sized DGs at optimal system nodes offers a considerable decline in power loss with an improved voltage profile at the network’s nodes. Distribution system operators can utilize the proposed technique to realize the reliable operation of overloaded urban networks.

    Avec la pénétration de la production distribuée basée sur les sources d'énergie renouvelables (RES-DG) dans le réseau de distribution (DN), le temps de fonctionnement des relais de protection devient une préoccupation majeure pour éviter la mauvaise coordination et le déclenchement intempestif du RES-DG. Il est dû au flux bidirectionnel de courant, à la variance du niveau de courant de défaut, c'est-à-dire un courant de défaut élevé dans le cas du RES-DG basé sur le générateur à induction à cage d'écureuil (SCIG) et un courant de défaut faible pour un RES-DG basé sur un onduleur. Ce document propose une nouvelle surintensité de direction à double réglage définie par l'utilisateur. relais avec des caractéristiques de courant-tension de temps hybride (UDDOR-TCV) pour intensifier la flexibilité du schéma proposé sans aucune assistance de communication pour DN radial. Le modèle proposé est formulé d'une manière d'optimisation non linéaire contrainte et résolu avec le solveur MINLP du logiciel de système de modélisation algébrique générale (GAMS) pour déterminer les paramètres de relais optimaux. Le schéma de protection proposé est simulé sur le système de distribution radiale de bus IEEE-33 et un système local de 40 bus hébergeant les multiples SCIG et PV à base de res-DG à des emplacements optimaux. La performance du schéma proposé est également évaluée sur le DN maillé de bus IEEE-8. Les résultats sont comparés aux schémas de protection existants dans la littérature récente.
