    Do we have the ability to make choices appropriate for the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda? They indicate crucial issues for fostering networks of solidarity relationships and authentically human ways of being in the world. The contribution supports the hypothesis of education as a public good to which everyone is invited to participate, beyond fragmentations and seizing life as a complex web of interconnections for a more fraternal humanity. The essay critically examines an awareness initiative, Village for the Earth, which has engaged hundreds of thousands of people in Italy since 2017 on Earth Day. The training, research, and Third Mission project through which the Università Cattolica has supported the Village represents one of the strategic commit- ments by which universities are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and sustainable culture, in the sign of a village of education, where each person is called to learn how to be together.

    Nell’attuale congiuntura di transizione ecologica l’identificazione di competenze per la sostenibilità e il loro conseguente sviluppo rispondono all’esigenza di formare i lavoratori e i cittadini del futuro, con particolare riferimento alla categoria dei giovani la cui spinta al cambiamento si configura decisiva. La rilevanza del tema in parola è confermata dagli sforzi che l’Unione europea ha messo in campo per rendere fattivo il coinvolgimento delle giovani generazioni nei processi di cambiamento, evidenziando il bisogno di maggiori investimenti nell’implementazione di adeguate strategie in materia di formazione green. Allo stesso modo, alcune evidenze nazionali e internazionali indicano una crescente sensibilità giovanile nei confronti della sostenibilità, aspetto che necessita di essere tenuto in debita considerazione per porre in essere nuove opportunità formative e per contrastare quel senso di disempowerment sul ruolo dei giovani nella società.

    Gli scenari della contemporaneità postulano nuovi traguardi educativi rispetto ai quali, oltre ai sistemi di istruzione, numerose agenzie sono coinvolte nella formazione continua della persona, a partire dalla realtà ricca e complessa della famiglia che, tra potenzialità e fragilità, si configura quale primo e fondamentale ambito della formazione umana, passando per le comunità e i territori. In questo quadro, alla scuola, in collaborazione con le molteplici agenzie formative, non è più richiesto di trasmettere un insieme dato di conoscenze formalizzate ma, piuttosto, di dotare le persone di competenze per affrontare le crisi del nostro tempo, aspetto che richiede anzitutto lo sviluppo di un senso di responsabilità universale, che rende capaci di sentirsi cittadini protagonisti attivi del proprio futuro, in una logica di solidarietà, di equità, di fraternità. Assumono valore dunque nuove categorie di skills a supporto dello sviluppo: la non linearità delle sfide che ci attendono impone maggiori investimenti nell’ambito della formazione trasversale per dotare i giovani di competenze idonee ad assumersi il rischio di percorrere strade inedite, a relazionarsi con gli altri in modo positivo, a sviluppare adeguati livelli di empatia. Al proposito, può essere utile in questo contesto richiamare il dispositivo pedagogico dei percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento (PCTO) che, attivati a decorrere dall’anno scolastico 2018/2019 e previsti in Italia per tutti gli alunni dell’ultimo triennio delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado, sono finalizzati allo sviluppo di competenze chiave e all’orientamento, ambiti di sviluppo prioritari per mettere a frutto il potenziale positivo delle giovani generazioni e indirizzarlo all’assunzione di decisioni a supporto di un progresso equo e diffuso.

    The undeniable truth of the serious consequences inflicted to our planet by a progress that is exclusively linked to quantitative growth and profit has paved the way for new development models based on the value of sustainability. However, sustainability is rarely spontaneously achieve: it is the result of an educational process through which individuals becomes aware of the interconnections that bind them to nature, to society and to humanity itself. It is relevant, therefore, to identify promising training environments to promote effective educational activities on sustainability, with the goal of nudging young people towards adequate lifestyles, creating dignified, creative and “green” jobs. Among these potentially relevant educational and training environments, work-related learning (Alternanza scuola-lavoro in Italian) and the paths for transversal skills and guidance (Percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento in Italian), provided in Italy for all students in the last three years of secondary schools, can represent successful educational opportunities to acquire, through active learning models, the tools needed to face the evolution of the educational processes and work- related dynamics, as well as to construct a responsible and competent citizenship, favoring a fair and lasting development for the benefit of current and future generations. L’innegabile evidenza delle gravi conseguenze a carico del nostro pianeta generate da un progresso legato esclusivamente alla crescita quantitativa e al profitto, ha aperto la strada a nuovi modelli di sviluppo centrati sul valore della sostenibilità. Tuttavia, la sostenibilità non nasce in maniera spontanea ma è il risultato di un processo di educazione attraverso il quale la persona prende coscienza delle interconnessioni che la legano, indissolubilmente, alla natura, alla società, all’umanità stessa. Diventa importante, dunque, individuare ambiti formativi promettenti per promuovere efficaci azioni educative riguardo alla sostenibilità, con l’obiettivo di orientare i giovani all’acquisizione di stili di vita adeguati e di posti di lavoro dignitosi, creativi, “verdi”. Tra questi, l’alternanza scuola-lavoro e i percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento, previsti in Italia per tutti gli studenti dell’ultimo triennio delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado, possono rappresentare fruttuose opportunità educative per acquisire, attraverso modalità di apprendimento attivo, strumenti idonei a fronteggiare l’evoluzione dei processi formativi e delle dinamiche professionali, nonché l’esercizio di una cittadinanza responsabile e competente in favore di uno sviluppo equo e durevole a vantaggio delle generazioni presenti e future.

    In un mondo del lavoro radicalmente mutato rispetto al recente passato, il tema della formazione alle professioni assume un ruolo centrale nell’attuale dibattito socioeconomico e istituzionale. L’acquisizione di competenze riguarda sia i giovani che si affacciano al mondo del lavoro, sia i professionisti già inseriti per i quali il processo di upskilling, vale a dire l’implementazione delle competenze dei singoli dipendenti nel loro medesimo ruolo, assume rilevanza per mantenere elevati livelli di occupabilità e di competitività. Di fronte alle sfide di un mondo connotato da cambiamenti che si susseguono con una un’accelerazione senza precedenti, è altresì importante dare valore anche al cosiddetto reskilling, cioè la riqualificazione del personale per innovare profili lavorativi divenuti obsoleti o acquisire competenze in nuove aree professionali. In questa cornice contestuale, la riflessione pedagogica è sollecitata a supportare i professionisti affinché imparino a conoscersi e ad avere contezza dei propri punti di forza e di debolezza, anche in modo da individuare le aree di miglioramento ed investire in quella direzione, nella consapevolezza che competenze trasversali, orientative e per la sostenibilità si possono potenziare in maniera continuativa.

    Nell’attuale congiuntura di transizione ecologica, la principale sfida legata alla sostenibilità permane centrata sulla formazione delle persone. Chiama in causa istituzioni, reti dell'istruzione, mondi del lavoro, comunità scientifiche al fine di articolare rapporti e prospettive integrate di conoscenza e innovazione verso futuri possibili, nel segno dell'equità. Le riflessioni proposte si sviluppano intorno alla vivacità del dibattito pedagogico in corso sulla formazione permanente, rintracciando nell’apprendimento trasformativo un motore per l’educazione alla sostenibilità. La nozione emblematica che attraversa il volume è costituita dalla complessità delle competenze per la sostenibilità, la cui rilevanza è percepibile nelle dimensioni personali, intersoggettive e concretamente situate degli apprendimenti utili al fine di promuovere l’esercizio di un pensiero capace di cogliere la profondità e l’inscindibilità delle relazioni che ci legano l’uno all’altro. Il volume accredita l’ipotesi della sostenibilità come un bene pubblico a cui tutti sono invitati a contribuire, anche con riferimento alle realtà imprenditoriali. Senza celare ambiguità e difficoltà nei processi di conversione “verde” dei settori tradizionali, la disamina compiuta pone l’enfasi sulle organizzazioni quali luoghi per concretizzare la transizione ecologica nelle dimensioni economica, ambientale, sociale e formativa, ripensando i profili professionali, con ricadute sulle sustainability competences ad essi associate. Formare alla sostenibilità per affrontare il presente e alfabetizzare al futuro, tra scuola e lavoro, greening delle professioni e nuove competenze.

    Do we have the ability to make choices appropriate for the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda? They indicate crucial issues for fostering networks of solidarity relationships and authentically human ways of being in the world. The contribution supports the hypothesis of education as a public good to which everyone is invited to participate, beyond fragmentations and seizing life as a complex web of interconnections for a more fraternal humanity. The essay critically examines an awareness initiative, Village for the Earth, which has engaged hundreds of thousands of people in Italy since 2017 on Earth Day. The training, research, and Third Mission project through which the Università Cattolica has supported the Village represents one of the strategic commit- ments by which universities are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and sustainable culture, in the sign of a village of education, where each person is called to learn how to be together.

    Nell’attuale congiuntura di transizione ecologica l’identificazione di competenze per la sostenibilità e il loro conseguente sviluppo rispondono all’esigenza di formare i lavoratori e i cittadini del futuro, con particolare riferimento alla categoria dei giovani la cui spinta al cambiamento si configura decisiva. La rilevanza del tema in parola è confermata dagli sforzi che l’Unione europea ha messo in campo per rendere fattivo il coinvolgimento delle giovani generazioni nei processi di cambiamento, evidenziando il bisogno di maggiori investimenti nell’implementazione di adeguate strategie in materia di formazione green. Allo stesso modo, alcune evidenze nazionali e internazionali indicano una crescente sensibilità giovanile nei confronti della sostenibilità, aspetto che necessita di essere tenuto in debita considerazione per porre in essere nuove opportunità formative e per contrastare quel senso di disempowerment sul ruolo dei giovani nella società.

    Gli scenari della contemporaneità postulano nuovi traguardi educativi rispetto ai quali, oltre ai sistemi di istruzione, numerose agenzie sono coinvolte nella formazione continua della persona, a partire dalla realtà ricca e complessa della famiglia che, tra potenzialità e fragilità, si configura quale primo e fondamentale ambito della formazione umana, passando per le comunità e i territori. In questo quadro, alla scuola, in collaborazione con le molteplici agenzie formative, non è più richiesto di trasmettere un insieme dato di conoscenze formalizzate ma, piuttosto, di dotare le persone di competenze per affrontare le crisi del nostro tempo, aspetto che richiede anzitutto lo sviluppo di un senso di responsabilità universale, che rende capaci di sentirsi cittadini protagonisti attivi del proprio futuro, in una logica di solidarietà, di equità, di fraternità. Assumono valore dunque nuove categorie di skills a supporto dello sviluppo: la non linearità delle sfide che ci attendono impone maggiori investimenti nell’ambito della formazione trasversale per dotare i giovani di competenze idonee ad assumersi il rischio di percorrere strade inedite, a relazionarsi con gli altri in modo positivo, a sviluppare adeguati livelli di empatia. Al proposito, può essere utile in questo contesto richiamare il dispositivo pedagogico dei percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento (PCTO) che, attivati a decorrere dall’anno scolastico 2018/2019 e previsti in Italia per tutti gli alunni dell’ultimo triennio delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado, sono finalizzati allo sviluppo di competenze chiave e all’orientamento, ambiti di sviluppo prioritari per mettere a frutto il potenziale positivo delle giovani generazioni e indirizzarlo all’assunzione di decisioni a supporto di un progresso equo e diffuso.

    The undeniable truth of the serious consequences inflicted to our planet by a progress that is exclusively linked to quantitative growth and profit has paved the way for new development models based on the value of sustainability. However, sustainability is rarely spontaneously achieve: it is the result of an educational process through which individuals becomes aware of the interconnections that bind them to nature, to society and to humanity itself. It is relevant, therefore, to identify promising training environments to promote effective educational activities on sustainability, with the goal of nudging young people towards adequate lifestyles, creating dignified, creative and “green” jobs. Among these potentially relevant educational and training environments, work-related learning (Alternanza scuola-lavoro in Italian) and the paths for transversal skills and guidance (Percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento in Italian), provided in Italy for all students in the last three years of secondary schools, can represent successful educational opportunities to acquire, through active learning models, the tools needed to face the evolution of the educational processes and work- related dynamics, as well as to construct a responsible and competent citizenship, favoring a fair and lasting development for the benefit of current and future generations. L’innegabile evidenza delle gravi conseguenze a carico del nostro pianeta generate da un progresso legato esclusivamente alla crescita quantitativa e al profitto, ha aperto la strada a nuovi modelli di sviluppo centrati sul valore della sostenibilità. Tuttavia, la sostenibilità non nasce in maniera spontanea ma è il risultato di un processo di educazione attraverso il quale la persona prende coscienza delle interconnessioni che la legano, indissolubilmente, alla natura, alla società, all’umanità stessa. Diventa importante, dunque, individuare ambiti formativi promettenti per promuovere efficaci azioni educative riguardo alla sostenibilità, con l’obiettivo di orientare i giovani all’acquisizione di stili di vita adeguati e di posti di lavoro dignitosi, creativi, “verdi”. Tra questi, l’alternanza scuola-lavoro e i percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento, previsti in Italia per tutti gli studenti dell’ultimo triennio delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado, possono rappresentare fruttuose opportunità educative per acquisire, attraverso modalità di apprendimento attivo, strumenti idonei a fronteggiare l’evoluzione dei processi formativi e delle dinamiche professionali, nonché l’esercizio di una cittadinanza responsabile e competente in favore di uno sviluppo equo e durevole a vantaggio delle generazioni presenti e future.

    The undeniable truth of the serious consequences inflicted to our planet by a progress that is exclusively linked to quantitative growth and profit has paved the way for new development models based on the value of sustainability. However, sustainability is rarely spontaneously achieve: it is the result of an educational process through which individuals becomes aware of the interconnections that bind them to nature, to society and to humanity itself. It is relevant, therefore, to identify promising training environments to promote effective educational activities on sustainability, with the goal of nudging young people towards adequate lifestyles, creating dignified, creative and “green” jobs. Among these potentially relevant educational and training environments, work-related learning (Alternanza scuola-lavoro in Italian) and the paths for transversal skills and guidance (Percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento in Italian), provided in Italy for all students in the last three years of secondary schools, can represent successful educational opportunities to acquire, through active learning models, the tools needed to face the evolution of the educational processes and work- related dynamics, as well as to construct a responsible and competent citizenship, favoring a fair and lasting development for the benefit of current and future generations. L’innegabile evidenza delle gravi conseguenze a carico del nostro pianeta generate da un progresso legato esclusivamente alla crescita quantitativa e al profitto, ha aperto la strada a nuovi modelli di sviluppo centrati sul valore della sostenibilità. Tuttavia, la sostenibilità non nasce in maniera spontanea ma è il risultato di un processo di educazione attraverso il quale la persona prende coscienza delle interconnessioni che la legano, indissolubilmente, alla natura, alla società, all’umanità stessa. Diventa importante, dunque, individuare ambiti formativi promettenti per promuovere efficaci azioni educative riguardo alla sostenibilità, con l’obiettivo di orientare i giovani all’acquisizione di stili di vita adeguati e di posti di lavoro dignitosi, creativi, “verdi”. Tra questi, l’alternanza scuola-lavoro e i percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l’orientamento, previsti in Italia per tutti gli studenti dell’ultimo triennio delle scuole secondarie di secondo grado, possono rappresentare fruttuose opportunità educative per acquisire, attraverso modalità di apprendimento attivo, strumenti idonei a fronteggiare l’evoluzione dei processi formativi e delle dinamiche professionali, nonché l’esercizio di una cittadinanza responsabile e competente in favore di uno sviluppo equo e durevole a vantaggio delle generazioni presenti e future.

    In un mondo del lavoro radicalmente mutato rispetto al recente passato, il tema della formazione alle professioni assume un ruolo centrale nell’attuale dibattito socioeconomico e istituzionale. L’acquisizione di competenze riguarda sia i giovani che si affacciano al mondo del lavoro, sia i professionisti già inseriti per i quali il processo di upskilling, vale a dire l’implementazione delle competenze dei singoli dipendenti nel loro medesimo ruolo, assume rilevanza per mantenere elevati livelli di occupabilità e di competitività. Di fronte alle sfide di un mondo connotato da cambiamenti che si susseguono con una un’accelerazione senza precedenti, è altresì importante dare valore anche al cosiddetto reskilling, cioè la riqualificazione del personale per innovare profili lavorativi divenuti obsoleti o acquisire competenze in nuove aree professionali. In questa cornice contestuale, la riflessione pedagogica è sollecitata a supportare i professionisti affinché imparino a conoscersi e ad avere contezza dei propri punti di forza e di debolezza, anche in modo da individuare le aree di miglioramento ed investire in quella direzione, nella consapevolezza che competenze trasversali, orientative e per la sostenibilità si possono potenziare in maniera continuativa.

    Nell’attuale congiuntura di transizione ecologica, la principale sfida legata alla sostenibilità permane centrata sulla formazione delle persone. Chiama in causa istituzioni, reti dell'istruzione, mondi del lavoro, comunità scientifiche al fine di articolare rapporti e prospettive integrate di conoscenza e innovazione verso futuri possibili, nel segno dell'equità. Le riflessioni proposte si sviluppano intorno alla vivacità del dibattito pedagogico in corso sulla formazione permanente, rintracciando nell’apprendimento trasformativo un motore per l’educazione alla sostenibilità. La nozione emblematica che attraversa il volume è costituita dalla complessità delle competenze per la sostenibilità, la cui rilevanza è percepibile nelle dimensioni personali, intersoggettive e concretamente situate degli apprendimenti utili al fine di promuovere l’esercizio di un pensiero capace di cogliere la profondità e l’inscindibilità delle relazioni che ci legano l’uno all’altro. Il volume accredita l’ipotesi della sostenibilità come un bene pubblico a cui tutti sono invitati a contribuire, anche con riferimento alle realtà imprenditoriali. Senza celare ambiguità e difficoltà nei processi di conversione “verde” dei settori tradizionali, la disamina compiuta pone l’enfasi sulle organizzazioni quali luoghi per concretizzare la transizione ecologica nelle dimensioni economica, ambientale, sociale e formativa, ripensando i profili professionali, con ricadute sulle sustainability competences ad essi associate. Formare alla sostenibilità per affrontare il presente e alfabetizzare al futuro, tra scuola e lavoro, greening delle professioni e nuove competenze.
