Logistics performance is considered an important determinant of supply chain performance that results in carbon neutrality. The main aim of this study is to investigate the influence of logistics performance and green innovation on carbon emissions for selected Asian economies over the period 2007-2020.The 2SLS approach has been employed for empirical tasks, and the robustness of results has been confirmed through the GMM approach. The results indicate that logistics performance significantly reduces carbon emissions.Besides the logistics performance index, five other indicators of logistics performance have been used in the analysis. These indicators include quality of logistics services, tracking and tracing capability, logistics infrastructure quality, cargo transportation timelines, and customs clearance efficiency. All these indicators are negatively correlated with carbon emissions. The results further indicate that green innovation leads to a significant reduction in carbon emissions. Thus, our results emphasize the priorities of green innovation, logistics performance, and environmental sustainability in Asian economies.

Environmental sustainability is becoming a crucial objective in this modern era. To attain this objective, it is important to reduce CO2 emissions for ensuring sustainable development. This study examined the nonlinear impact of government and household expenditures on CO2 emissions in China during 1984-2019. The modified nonlinear ARDL method is used for estimates. Asymmetric empirical outcomes show that a positive and negative change in government expenditure has reduced CO2 emissions in the short and long run in China. However, the positive and negative effects of government expenditure are higher in long run than short run. Furthermore, the asymmetric model gives much more significant results than the traditional symmetric model. Similarly, a positive change in household expenditure has a positive influence on CO2 emissions in the short and long run, while a negative change in household expenditure has a negative impact on CO2 emissions in the long run. The findings of the study recommended that there is a need to promote green spending in the economy that encourages environmental sustainability.

Energy security has become a crucial issue as the world economy depends more and more on energy supplies. In the context of the top energy-consuming nations, this research examines the connection between digital financial inclusion, information and communication technology (ICT), education, and energy security risk from 2011 to 2022. To that end, the study applies the two-stage least squares and system generalized method of moments estimation techniques. According to our study's findings, digital financial inclusion and associated factors, including automatic teller machines, bank branches, debit cards, and electronic payments, mitigate energy security risks. The energy security risks are also reduced due to ICT, education, gross domestic product, and renewable energy production. However, carbon emissions increase energy security risks. These findings suggest that policymakers in top energy-consuming economies should focus on the digital inclusiveness of the financial sector, ICT diffusion, and human capital to increase the opportunities for investment in the energy sector to mitigate energy security risks.

The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of research and development (R&D) intensity on renewable energy consumption in selected Asian economies. We have relied on the autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) method to get empirical estimates. The short- and long-run results show that a rise in R&D intensity increases renewable energy consumption in China and Japan. In the long run, energy intensity and financial development increase renewable energy consumption in China and India only. Among other control variables, a rise in CO2 emissions causes renewable energy consumption to rise in all three economies in the long run. The trade increases renewable energy consumption in India and Japan in the long run. This study shows the important policy implications of promoting R&D and renewable energy consumption in the selected Asian economies.

Access to stable energy sources is crucial for sustaining economic development, providing public services, and safeguarding the wellbeing of individuals, making it a crucial component of national security and economic stability. Thus, an affordable and ample amount of energy is crucial for mitigating energy security risks. In this regard, a country needs to investigate the factors that can mitigate the risks related to energy security. The available literature on determinants related to energy security is limited. This research employs a novel cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lag model to examine the effects of natural resources rent, financial development, and institutional quality on energy security risk. The findings show that the natural resources rent, financial development, institutional quality index, voice and accountability, regulatory quality, political stability, government effectiveness, the rule of law, and control of corruption all help mitigate the energy security risk in the long run. In the short run, only financial development helps mitigate the energy security risks. The control variables of gross domestic product and trade increase the energy security risks, while the information and communications technology mitigates risks related to energy security in the long run. The findings help policymakers understand how the interaction of these factors helps reduce energy security risks.

Trade in environmental goods and financial development may harness factors such as green investment, technological development, and renewable energy production, which are crucial in reducing energy security risks by diversifying energy sources. However, not many empirics have shed light on the impact of digitalization, environmental trade, and financial development on energy security risks in top energy-consuming countries. To fill this vacuum, this study intends to investigate the influence of digitalization, environmental trade, and financial development on energy security risk in top energy-consuming countries from 2003 to 2021. The study employs the 2SLS and GMM estimates for empirical estimation of top energy-consuming developed and developing economies. The results show that ICT negatively affects energy security risks in developed economies. The findings of the analysis also suggest that environmental trade and financial development cause energy security risks to be reduced in both developed and developing economies. Likewise, the energy security risks in both developed and developing nations are mitigated by ICT, GDP, carbon emissions, and renewable energy production. In contrast, the energy security risks are escalated by the rise in natural resource rents. In order to fully capitalize on the potential advantages of these elements and eventually ensure a more sustainable and secure energy future, governments, businesses, and financial institutions must work together.

Rapid modernization and industrialization have significantly intensified carbon emissions and worsened environmental sustainability around the globe. Despite the significant importance of green innovation, clean energy consumption, and education in every aspect of life, the role of all these variables in determining environmental sustainability has not been explored quite extensively in case of China. Under this premise, the present study aims to investigate the role of green innovation, clean energy investment, and education on environmental sustainability in highly polluted Asian economies for the period of 1991–2019 by employing the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. The findings infer that increase in green innovation reduces CO2 emissions in China, India, and Japan in the long-run. However, an increase in clean energy investment and education tends to decline CO2 emissions in Russia and Japan. The findings confirm that green innovation, clean energy investment, and education improve environmental sustainability in long-run, while short-run estimates are diverse. Thus, governments of highly polluted economies should increase investment in education, clean energy, and technology to mitigate CO2 emissions.

The integration of financial openness plays a pivotal role in driving renewable energy consumption. The existing literature has predominantly overlooked the nonlinear impact of financial openness on renewable energy consumption. This study examines the nonlinear impact of financial openness on renewable energy consumption across different regions in Asia, such as Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and West Asia, by employing linear and nonlinear cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lag techniques. The findings of the linear analysis confirm that financial openness favorably impacted renewable energy consumption in the long run in all regions. On the other side, the nonlinear analysis highlights that an increase in financial openness promotes renewable energy consumption in all regions except West Asia. In contrast, the fall in financial openness hurt renewable energy consumption in Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia. Greenhouse gas emissions and GDP promote renewable energy consumption in almost all regions in both linear and nonlinear analysis, and ICT and trade help the consumption of renewable energy to rise in some regions. Policymakers in Asia and its subregions should focus on increasing the collaboration between the financial sectors of the Asian economies and increasing the flow of funds to renewable energy sources in Asia.

AbstractModern advances in nonlinear modeling have exposed that nonlinear models yield more robust results compared with linear models. Research on the effect of air-railway transportation on environmental pollution has now arrived into a new way of asymmetry analysis and captured the real issue among the nexus. This study aims to inspect the asymmetric impact of air-railway transportation on environmental pollution in Pakistan by using annual time series data from 1991 to 2019. The findings show that positive shock in air passenger carried and railway passenger carried increases carbon emissions, which implies that 1% increase in air passenger carried (railway passenger carried) enhances environmental pollution by 0.21% (0.32%) in long run in Pakistan. While positive shock in railway passengers carried increases environmental pollution and negative shock in railway passengers carried decreases the environmental pollution in the short run. The outcomes have also confirmed the short- and long-run asymmetries in Wald statistics. The findings are country-specific and it would be regionally specific.

The BCIST economies have reinforced their identity as an emerging power in the fields of environmental technology and green transportation. The green transport sector undoubtedly plays an important role in green growth but also reduces CO2 emissions. The present study's objective is to examine the impact of transportation taxes on CO2 emissions in a comparative setting for BCIST economies in periods ranging from 1991 to 2019 by employing the nonlinear ARDL approach. The finding shows that transportation taxes are also a vital asymmetric determinant of CO2 emissions. An upsurge in transportation taxes lowers CO2 emissions in China, India, South Africa, and Turkey, while a decrease in transportation taxes intensifies carbon emissions in Brazil, China, and India in the long term. More transportation taxes limit CO2 emissions in South Africa as well as China in the short run. The findings of the study have some important economy-wise policy implications and permit a new direction for further research.

Renewable energy is known for its lower environmental impact compared to conventional fossil fuels.
