Species such as Pomatoschistus microps, which inhabit shallow marine environments, are particularly exposed to these environmental extremes. This makes them ideal model species for assessing the impacts of ocean warming in these areas. Thermal tolerance, metabolic rate, and cellular stress response of this species were assessed after exposure to both present-day and projected future summer scenarios, along with their respective heatwaves. The thermal maximum did not appear to vary among the different scenarios tested, suggesting a limited acclimation capacity. Additionally, their metabolic rate remained stable, and there were no significant alterations in the levels of cellular stress response biomarkers. This lack of change suggests that their homeostatic state was not disrupted. Temperature data collected at the sampling site indicates that this species maintains a substantial thermal safety margin, which equips it to withstand thermal challenges not only in the present but also in anticipated future summer and heatwave conditions. THE FUTURE IN RENEWABLE ENERGY - This paper embodies a manifesto on the undoubtedly preeminent nature of an electron as a basic source of energy, how such energy can be practically harnessed from this subatomic particle of matter so can be usable to help address contemporary power needs out of clean, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner, depicting a strong contrast with recent mainstream energy sources and means. Mankind today favors clean energy technology and is showing progress on global warming mitigation, carbon footprint reduction or elimination, net-zero emissions, energy efficiency, and the sustainability or preservation of the world's resources. This undertaking proposes ways of utilizing the electron's characteristics when subjected to forces from sources of energy such as certain electric or electromagnetic fields and other energy possessing entities. The electron, in materials at the nano-particle size or smaller that could mainly exist in semiconductors, can be induced to a behavior that will constitute motion that can be exploited for practical power generation applications and other innovative solutions to address real-world challenges, ushering a new era of renewable energy technologies. An e-book shall follow this work soon, providing more details, explanations and illustrations so stay tuned on this novel energy harnessing technique but using conventional or mainstream resources.

Dieser dreiteiliges Arbeit beginnt mit dem ersten Titel: Anthropologien zwischen Software-Hardwaretechnik digitale vernetzte Welt und die menschliche Evolution, was anstrebt, aus der Vergangenheit zu lernen. Weiter behandelt das zweite Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit mit dem Titel: Da Vinci Code, Zeit und Raumunabhängig auf Basis der Geschichte seit ca. 3000 v.Chr. die Symbolik und Mathematik der Vergangenheit und wie daraus eine Lehre gezogen werden kann, um grundsätzliche Probleme der Gegenwart besser im Griff zu bekommen. Der letzte Teil beschreibt ein Algorithmus, um eine Ja und Nein Entscheidung besser treffen zu können. Die Themen sind aktuell und aus subjektiver Sicht von Bedeutung, da eine einfach Darstellung der Tatsachen und Fakten in der Form der vorliegenden Arbeit einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Verständnis und Beschreiben der Zusammenhänge leisten kann, um sowohl die Gesellschaft als auch die Entscheidungsträger diversen Berufen und Positionen auf die Themen sensibilisiert werden können, was im Interesse aller Beteiligten und Gestallter der Zukunft ist. Dabei setzt diese Arbeit das Ziel, die Aufmerksamkeit der Entscheidungsträger aller Ebenen in diversen Berufen auf aktuelle sachlogisch ausgearbeiteten Analogien, Vergleiche und Analysen, die subjektiver Natur sind, um eine bessere, transparente und nachhaltige Zukunft gestallten zu können. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit leisten einen Beitrag, was sowohl für die Wissenschaft als auch für die Praxis von Bedeutung sein können. Neben der Handlungsempfehlungen in jedem Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit sind Symbolik sowie ausgearbeitete mathematische Überlegungen klar, differenziert und sachlogisch dargestellt, was einen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag leisten sowie praktische Lösungen beschreiben, um eventuelle Probleme entgegenzuwirken. Es bleibt immer die Frage offen, ob die behandelten Themen real und aktuell sind und ob die Wahrheit hinter der Aussagen, Thesen, Analogien und Fakten der vorliegenden Arbeit aktuell von Bedeutung sind und vernünftig sind, was nur der Leser oder Betrachter der Arbeit entscheiden kann, um entscheiden zu können, dass die vorliegende Arbeit einen sinnvollen Beitrag leistet oder doch nicht.

Neben der Handlungsempfehlungen in jedem Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit sind Symbolik sowie ausgearbeitete mathematische Überlegungen klar, differenziert und sachlogisch dargestellt, was einen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag leisten sowie praktische Lösungen beschreiben, um eventuelle Probleme entgegenzuwirken. Furthermore, the fauna situated on the surface (or epifauna), which may be fixed or free, is different from that which lives inside the sediment (endofauna). Finally, in this section we are interested only in marine macrobenthos (organisms larger than a few mm), from the tidal zone to the abyssal depths. The smaller forms (meiofauna-flora and microfauna-flora), which are practically not documented, are not taken into account in this chapter on the bottoms of the St-Paul and Amsterdam Islands. The area has been explored only sporadically during the passage of a few vessels on scientific expeditions focused on other interests. Only one of them, dedicated to the exploration of the zone from 0 to 3000 m of depth ("Jasus"), took place in 1985, on board the Marion-Dufresne. Plants are sessile organisms that suffer from a multitude of challenges such as abiotic stress or the interactions with competitors, antagonists and symbionts, which influence their performance as well as their eco-physiological and biochemical responses in complex ways. In particular, the combination of different stressors and their impact on plant biomass production and the plant's ability to metabolically adjust to these challenges are less well understood. To study the effects of mineral nitrogen (N) availability, interspecific competition and the association with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on biomass production, biomass allocation patterns (root/shoot ratio, specific leaf area) and metabolic responses, we chose the model organism Plantago lanceolata L. (Plantaginaceae). Plants were grown in a full factorial experiment. Biomass production and its allocation patterns were assessed at harvest, and the influence of the different treatments and their interactions on the plant metabolome were analysed using a metabolic fingerprinting approach with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with time-of-flight-mass spectrometry. Limited supply of mineral N caused the most pronounced changes with respect to plant biomass and biomass allocation patterns, and altered the concentrations of more than one third of the polar plant metabolome. Competition also impaired plant biomass production, yet affected the plant metabolome to a much lesser extent than limited mineral N supply. The interaction of competition and limited mineral N supply often caused additive changes on several traits. The association with AMF did not enhance biomass production, but altered biomass allocation patterns such as the root/shoot ratio and the specific leaf area. Interestingly, we did not find significant changes in the plant metabolome caused by AMF. A targeted analysis revealed that only limited mineral N supply reduced the concentrations of one of the main target defence compounds of P. lanceolata, the iridoid glycoside catalpol. In general, the interaction of competition and limited mineral N supply led to additive changes, while the association with AMF in any case alleviated the observed stress responses. Our results show that the joint analysis of biomass/allocation patterns and metabolic traits allows a more comprehensive interpretation of plant responses to different biotic and abiotic challenges; specifically, when multiple stresses interact.

SUSTAGRI4.0 core aim is to promote a more sustainable agriculture and support sustainable agriculture businesses in their transition to Agriculture 4.0. This report, comprised from three clusters, the highlighting results of the study, focusing on the professional skills of the future European farming community build on the cornerstones of sustainability, digitalization, and entrepreneurship: Best practices at consortium level; digital survey; focus groups. The country analysis is based on critical research of relevant open sources, including, inter alia, data from national and regional/municipal organizations, law enforcement practice, formal education curriculum, scientific publications and NGOs reports. These desk studies have been of high importance for us, balancing academic findings, correcting views and seriously expanding our understanding of youth issues and related processes of digitalization. Moreover, they have served as a pool for ideas, inspiration and practical models for partner organizations [Cluster I]. Digital Survey recap the desk and case studies, providing valuable insights from our target groups – both from youth and stakeholders and enriching us with clarifying first-hand knowledge for preparing the next steps of our project [Cluster II]. Development of focus groups: Research on local producers & sustainable agricultural business owners and VET. After finishing the research phase (national level) has been completed, a number of best practices has been identified and described in order to compare official data and statistics with real implementation of abovementioned tools [Cluster III]

A considerable number of them derives directly from climate changes and generates a deep impact on cultural heritages. As a result, the need for solutions able to cope with uncertain weather conditions and increased natural disasters is getting urgent. STORM is a European Research and Innovation Action co-funded in the H2020 framework that is aimed at creating intelligent tools which will gather data from libraries, sensors and crowd-sensing techniques in order to enable cultural heritage stakeholders (e.g., the organisations which have to manage the sites) to implement the most appropriate actions in the prevention, response and recovery phases of emergencies which could impact on cultural heritages. More specifically, the project aims at addressing those risks deriving from climate change, which in the near future is going to worsen most of the present hazards, as flash floods, heat waves and forest fires. As such, the approach adopted by the project is particularly fit for the purpose of being integrated with smart city systems which are increasingly growing in number and variety. Even if safety issues are not considered central in the overall concept of smart city, it’s plain that the huge quantity of data that can be gathered and processed in any future STORM-like urban cultural heritage compound should feed into the available smart city systems. On the other way round, the mass of data produced or processed by smart city systems have the potential to impact dramatically on emergency management and prevention activities to be implemented by cultural heritage stakeholders. A considerable number of them derives directly from climate changes and generates a deep impact on cultural heritages. As a result, the need for solutions able to cope with uncertain weather conditions and increased natural disasters is getting urgent. STORM is a European Research and Innovation Action co-funded in the H2020 framework that is aimed at creating intelligent tools which will gather data from libraries, sensors and crowd-sensing techniques in order to enable cultural heritage stakeholders (e.g., the organisations which have to manage the sites) to implement the most appropriate actions in the prevention, response and recovery phases of emergencies which could impact on cultural heritages. More specifically, the project aims at addressing those risks deriving from climate change, which in the near future is going to worsen most of the present hazards, as flash floods, heat waves and forest fires. As such, the approach adopted by the project is particularly fit for the purpose of being integrated with smart city systems which are increasingly growing in number and variety. Even if safety issues are not considered central in the overall concept of smart city, it’s plain that the huge quantity of data that can be gathered and processed in any future STORM-like urban cultural heritage compound should feed into the available smart city systems. On the other way round, the mass of data produced or processed by smart city systems have the potential to impact dramatically on emergency management and prevention activities to be implemented by cultural heritage stakeholders. This paper deals with a new version of such moral panics which is arguably even more intense than the previous ones, but which relates to a new dimension of human experience, namely globalization. The health, economic and environmental challenges we are now faced with are posed globally. The moral panic today stems from this triple challenge. Our central thesis is that these three emergencies are interrelated, but there is no simple causal relationship between them. They can only be addressed in a global manner, while we still live in a world which is segmented into sovereign nation-states.

Artificial drying, using industrial devices (dryers), helps to reduce the residual humidity content in biomass in a relatively short time. Convection is one of the most common mode of drying (referred to as direct drying). Heat is supplied by hot air/gas flowing over the surface of the solid. The heat for evaporation is supplied by convection to the exposed surface of the material; the evaporated humidity is carried away by the drying fluid. Indirect dryers (working by conduction) are more appropriate for particulate and granular materials or for very wet solids; while radiative dryers use various sources of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from the infrared to microwaves. In this work, two mathematical models of cross flow and rotary dryers (both convective dryers) have been proposed. Both dryers treat wood chips. The two models allow to calculate the thermal efficiency and residence time of wet solid wood chips, as a function of the residual moisture content, as well as the analysis of the behaviour of the outlet wet solid and drying gas, in consideration of the dryer length and of the feeding material conditions in the dryer. The models have been developed in the Mathcad software environment.

Species such as Pomatoschistus microps, which inhabit shallow marine environments, are particularly exposed to these environmental extremes. This makes them ideal model species for assessing the impacts of ocean warming in these areas. Thermal tolerance, metabolic rate, and cellular stress response of this species were assessed after exposure to both present-day and projected future summer scenarios, along with their respective heatwaves. The thermal maximum did not appear to vary among the different scenarios tested, suggesting a limited acclimation capacity. Additionally, their metabolic rate remained stable, and there were no significant alterations in the levels of cellular stress response biomarkers. This lack of change suggests that their homeostatic state was not disrupted. Temperature data collected at the sampling site indicates that this species maintains a substantial thermal safety margin, which equips it to withstand thermal challenges not only in the present but also in anticipated future summer and heatwave conditions. THE FUTURE IN RENEWABLE ENERGY - This paper embodies a manifesto on the undoubtedly preeminent nature of an electron as a basic source of energy, how such energy can be practically harnessed from this subatomic particle of matter so can be usable to help address contemporary power needs out of clean, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner, depicting a strong contrast with recent mainstream energy sources and means. Mankind today favors clean energy technology and is showing progress on global warming mitigation, carbon footprint reduction or elimination, net-zero emissions, energy efficiency, and the sustainability or preservation of the world's resources. This undertaking proposes ways of utilizing the electron's characteristics when subjected to forces from sources of energy such as certain electric or electromagnetic fields and other energy possessing entities. The electron, in materials at the nano-particle size or smaller that could mainly exist in semiconductors, can be induced to a behavior that will constitute motion that can be exploited for practical power generation applications and other innovative solutions to address real-world challenges, ushering a new era of renewable energy technologies. An e-book shall follow this work soon, providing more details, explanations and illustrations so stay tuned on this novel energy harnessing technique but using conventional or mainstream resources.

Dieser dreiteiliges Arbeit beginnt mit dem ersten Titel: Anthropologien zwischen Software-Hardwaretechnik digitale vernetzte Welt und die menschliche Evolution, was anstrebt, aus der Vergangenheit zu lernen. Weiter behandelt das zweite Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit mit dem Titel: Da Vinci Code, Zeit und Raumunabhängig auf Basis der Geschichte seit ca. 3000 v.Chr. die Symbolik und Mathematik der Vergangenheit und wie daraus eine Lehre gezogen werden kann, um grundsätzliche Probleme der Gegenwart besser im Griff zu bekommen. Der letzte Teil beschreibt ein Algorithmus, um eine Ja und Nein Entscheidung besser treffen zu können. Die Themen sind aktuell und aus subjektiver Sicht von Bedeutung, da eine einfach Darstellung der Tatsachen und Fakten in der Form der vorliegenden Arbeit einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Verständnis und Beschreiben der Zusammenhänge leisten kann, um sowohl die Gesellschaft als auch die Entscheidungsträger diversen Berufen und Positionen auf die Themen sensibilisiert werden können, was im Interesse aller Beteiligten und Gestallter der Zukunft ist. A distinction is made between the plant benthos or phytobenthos (algae and phanerogams), and the animal benthos or zoobenthos (annelids, molluscs, crustaceans, echinoderms, fish, etc.). Furthermore, the fauna situated on the surface (or epifauna), which may be fixed or free, is different from that which lives inside the sediment (endofauna). Finally, in this section we are interested only in marine macrobenthos (organisms larger than a few mm), from the tidal zone to the abyssal depths. The smaller forms (meiofauna-flora and microfauna-flora), which are practically not documented, are not taken into account in this chapter on the bottoms of the St-Paul and Amsterdam Islands. The area has been explored only sporadically during the passage of a few vessels on scientific expeditions focused on other interests. Only one of them, dedicated to the exploration of the zone from 0 to 3000 m of depth ("Jasus"), took place in 1985, on board the Marion-Dufresne. Plants are sessile organisms that suffer from a multitude of challenges such as abiotic stress or the interactions with competitors, antagonists and symbionts, which influence their performance as well as their eco-physiological and biochemical responses in complex ways. In particular, the combination of different stressors and their impact on plant biomass production and the plant's ability to metabolically adjust to these challenges are less well understood. To study the effects of mineral nitrogen (N) availability, interspecific competition and the association with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on biomass production, biomass allocation patterns (root/shoot ratio, specific leaf area) and metabolic responses, we chose the model organism Plantago lanceolata L. (Plantaginaceae). Plants were grown in a full factorial experiment. Biomass production and its allocation patterns were assessed at harvest, and the influence of the different treatments and their interactions on the plant metabolome were analysed using a metabolic fingerprinting approach with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with time-of-flight-mass spectrometry. Limited supply of mineral N caused the most pronounced changes with respect to plant biomass and biomass allocation patterns, and altered the concentrations of more than one third of the polar plant metabolome. Competition also impaired plant biomass production, yet affected the plant metabolome to a much lesser extent than limited mineral N supply. The interaction of competition and limited mineral N supply often caused additive changes on several traits. The association with AMF did not enhance biomass production, but altered biomass allocation patterns such as the root/shoot ratio and the specific leaf area. Interestingly, we did not find significant changes in the plant metabolome caused by AMF. A targeted analysis revealed that only limited mineral N supply reduced the concentrations of one of the main target defence compounds of P. lanceolata, the iridoid glycoside catalpol. In general, the interaction of competition and limited mineral N supply led to additive changes, while the association with AMF in any case alleviated the observed stress responses. Our results show that the joint analysis of biomass/allocation patterns and metabolic traits allows a more comprehensive interpretation of plant responses to different biotic and abiotic challenges; specifically, when multiple stresses interact.

Plants are sessile organisms that suffer from a multitude of challenges such as abiotic stress or the interactions with competitors, antagonists and symbionts, which influence their performance as well as their eco-physiological and biochemical responses in complex ways. In particular, the combination of different stressors and their impact on plant biomass production and the plant's ability to metabolically adjust to these challenges are less well understood. To study the effects of mineral nitrogen (N) availability, interspecific competition and the association with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on biomass production, biomass allocation patterns (root/shoot ratio, specific leaf area) and metabolic responses, we chose the model organism Plantago lanceolata L. (Plantaginaceae). Plants were grown in a full factorial experiment. This report, comprised from three clusters, the highlighting results of the study, focusing on the professional skills of the future European farming community build on the cornerstones of sustainability, digitalization, and entrepreneurship: Best practices at consortium level; digital survey; focus groups. The country analysis is based on critical research of relevant open sources, including, inter alia, data from national and regional/municipal organizations, law enforcement practice, formal education curriculum, scientific publications and NGOs reports. These desk studies have been of high importance for us, balancing academic findings, correcting views and seriously expanding our understanding of youth issues and related processes of digitalization. Moreover, they have served as a pool for ideas, inspiration and practical models for partner organizations [Cluster I]. Digital Survey recap the desk and case studies, providing valuable insights from our target groups – both from youth and stakeholders and enriching us with clarifying first-hand knowledge for preparing the next steps of our project [Cluster II]. A considerable number of them derives directly from climate changes and generates a deep impact on cultural heritages. As a result, the need for solutions able to cope with uncertain weather conditions and increased natural disasters is getting urgent. STORM is a European Research and Innovation Action co-funded in the H2020 framework that is aimed at creating intelligent tools which will gather data from libraries, sensors and crowd-sensing techniques in order to enable cultural heritage stakeholders (e.g., the organisations which have to manage the sites) to implement the most appropriate actions in the prevention, response and recovery phases of emergencies which could impact on cultural heritages. More specifically, the project aims at addressing those risks deriving from climate change, which in the near future is going to worsen most of the present hazards, as flash floods, heat waves and forest fires. As such, the approach adopted by the project is particularly fit for the purpose of being integrated with smart city systems which are increasingly growing in number and variety. Even if safety issues are not considered central in the overall concept of smart city, it’s plain that the huge quantity of data that can be gathered and processed in any future STORM-like urban cultural heritage compound should feed into the available smart city systems. On the other way round, the mass of data produced or processed by smart city systems have the potential to impact dramatically on emergency management and prevention activities to be implemented by cultural heritage stakeholders. The paper will illustrate the approach that the STORM project is adopting to mitigate the impact of climate changes on cultural heritages and the mutual benefits which could derive from an integration of the STORM outcomes with smart cities systems through the use of standard emergency data exchange protocols and an integrated framework aimed at improving existing processes related to the three identified areas: Prevention, Response and Policy

This paper deals with a new version of such moral panics which is arguably even more intense than the previous ones, but which relates to a new dimension of human experience, namely globalization. The health, economic and environmental challenges we are now faced with are posed globally. The moral panic today stems from this triple challenge. Our central thesis is that these three emergencies are interrelated, but there is no simple causal relationship between them. They can only be addressed in a global manner, while we still live in a world which is segmented into sovereign nation-states.

Artificial drying, using industrial devices (dryers), helps to reduce the residual humidity content in biomass in a relatively short time. Convection is one of the most common mode of drying (referred to as direct drying). Heat is supplied by hot air/gas flowing over the surface of the solid. The heat for evaporation is supplied by convection to the exposed surface of the material; the evaporated humidity is carried away by the drying fluid. Indirect dryers (working by conduction) are more appropriate for particulate and granular materials or for very wet solids; while radiative dryers use various sources of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from the infrared to microwaves. In this work, two mathematical models of cross flow and rotary dryers (both convective dryers) have been proposed. Both dryers treat wood chips. The two models allow to calculate the thermal efficiency and residence time of wet solid wood chips, as a function of the residual moisture content, as well as the analysis of the behaviour of the outlet wet solid and drying gas, in consideration of the dryer length and of the feeding material conditions in the dryer. The models have been developed in the Mathcad software environment.

Artificial drying, using industrial devices (dryers), helps to reduce the residual humidity content in biomass in a relatively short time. Convection is one of the most common mode of drying (referred to as direct drying). Heat is supplied by hot air/gas flowing over the surface of the solid. The heat for evaporation is supplied by convection to the exposed surface of the material; the evaporated humidity is carried away by the drying fluid. Indirect dryers (working by conduction) are more appropriate for particulate and granular materials or for very wet solids; while radiative dryers use various sources of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from the infrared to microwaves. In this work, two mathematical models of cross flow and rotary dryers (both convective dryers) have been proposed. Both dryers treat wood chips. The two models allow to calculate the thermal efficiency and residence time of wet solid wood chips, as a function of the residual moisture content, as well as the analysis of the behaviour of the outlet wet solid and drying gas, in consideration of the dryer length and of the feeding material conditions in the dryer. The models have been developed in the Mathcad software environment.
