These 285 documents have been used for the three sections that are part of the results of this article (documents statistics, bibliometric analysis, and literature review statistics). For this purpose, it was necessary to carry out an exhaustive review of the 285 selected documents and to complement this information with the data provided by Scopus. The data-charting process was as follows: the four researchers agreed on the types of data to be extracted, two of them carried out the review while the other two supervised. If any type of data worthy of investigation emerged during the reading, it was discussed, and if appropriate, included, making it an iterative process. For each of the documents, the following variables were collected in a table: author/s, title of the document, year of publication, journal in which it was published, type of document (article or review), number of citations and citations per year, relevance (weighting given by Scopus), DOI, geographical location of researchers, abstract, author keywords and keywords suggested by Scopus, JIF, JCI and H-index information of the journal in which the document is published (with quartiles and percentiles), subject area categories provided by Scopus, territory studied, renewable energy source studied, research technique or methodology used, primary data source used and years collected. In addition, for articles using quantitative techniques, all variables included in each model have been collected.

The world, society and education are constantly evolving, and to respond to these changes, the main governmental institutions have been proposing different global strategies to focus efforts in the same direction. Currently, the United Nations and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) have presented a series of indicators that could help to minimise the environmental, economic and social instability we are experiencing. In this sense, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has been described as a fundamental factor. Specifically, in previous work, we argued that physical education (PE) could be a good tool to contribute to SDGs. Based on this, no research analysing the voices of Physical Education Teachers (PET) on how this contribution could be made has been identified in previous literature. Therefore, the objectives of this research are: (1) to analyse the voices and opinions of active PETs in terms of the knowledge they have about Sustainable Development (SD); (2) to determine their opinions about the contribution that PE could make to SDGs; and finally, (3) to identify the challenges and limitations of pedagogical action of SD in PE. For this purpose, a qualitative analysis through a semi-structured interview with 41 active PETs was carried out. The main findings will be presented and discussed around four themes: (a) agreement on the concept of sustainability; (b) PE can contribute to the achievement of SDGs; (c) ambiguity in applying SDGs to PE lessons; and (d) teachers’ constraints on how to implement SDGs in PE. It seems to indicate that PETs do not have a multidimensional vision of sustainable development. While they recognise the potential of PE to contribute to SDGs through awareness raising and student learning, they point to its pedagogical and formative constraints as the main barriers to being able to contribute. They pointed to a lack of knowledge on how to do so, guidelines on how to integrate ESD, lack of involvement, shortage of time or resources in school physical education.

It is now environmentally desirable and legally mandatory to add renewable fuels such as ethanol or ethyl tert-butyl ether to gasoline. However, biofuels affect, among other properties, the distillation curve of gasoline, which is subject to strict regulations. This work presents a simple mathematical model capable of accurately predicting the influence that the addition of these oxygenates has on the distillation curve. In order to address this issue, it is essential to find a simple mathematical correlation between the boiling temperatures of the hydrocarbons present in gasoline and the properties (boiling temperature and volume or molar concentration of ethanol) of the corresponding azeotropic mixtures formed with ethanol. Power functions have been assumed to model the temperature composition diagrams of the vapour-liquid equilibrium. Experimental data previously published by these and other authors have been used to fit and validate the model. The results provided by the mathematical model can be of great interest to understand the process of fuel evaporation in spark-ignition engines or the adjustment of distillation cuts in refineries, in order to comply with the regulations, in terms of the distillation curve, after adding ethanol or ethyl tert-butyl ether.

This paper proposes a linear programming problem to find the optimal planning and operation of aggregated distributed energy resources (DER), managed by an aggregator that participates in the day-ahead wholesale electricity market as a price-maker agent. The proposed model analyzes the impact of the size of the aggregated resources and gives the optimal planning and management of DER systems, and the corresponding energy transactions in the wholesale day-ahead market. The results suggest that when the aggregated resources are large enough, DER systems can achieve up to 32% extra economic benefits depending on the market share, compared with a business-as-usual approach (not implementing DER systems). info:eu-repo/semantics/draft

Capítulos en libros The importance of the natural gas sector in the electric power industry has increased substantially over the last decades, reaching 21% generation capacity in Europe in 2016. Generation companies that own gas fired units (GFUs), such us combined cycle gas turbines, have to take into account not only the fuel and the operation and maintenance costs, but also the costs related to the third-party access (TPA) tariffs to the gas network as any other gas consumer. This paper highlights the importance of modeling these TPA tariffs in a proper manner as they represent a significant share of the total operation cost of GFU. In addition, the fact that TPA final costs depend on the daily gas consumption for the whole month, makes traditional short-term unit-commitment (UC) models unable to capture the impact of the new complicating constraints. This paper presents the mathematical formulation of a UC model that models the TPA tariffs to the gas network in a more realistic manner where a joint assessment is formulated for all the units that withdraw gas from the same node of the gas network. The paper includes an example case that illustrates the impact on the optimal hourly scheduling of such detailed modeling, and it compares the results with the standard formulation based on individual cost functions of each thermal unit. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Lysophosphatidic acid species (LPA) are lipid bioactive signaling molecules that have been recently implicated in the modulation of emotional and motivational behaviors. The present study investigates the consequences of either genetic deletion or pharmacological blockade of lysophosphatidic acid receptor-1 (LPA1) in alcohol consumption. The experiments were performed in alcohol-drinking animals by using LPA1-null mice and administering the LPA1 receptor antagonist Ki16425 in both mice and rats.In the two-bottle free choice paradigm, the LPA1-null mice preferred the alcohol more than their wild-type counterparts. Whereas the male LPA1-null mice displayed this higher preference at all doses tested, the female LPA1-null mice only consumed more alcohol at 6% concentration. The male LPA1-null mice were then further characterized, showing a notably increased ethanol drinking after a deprivation period and a reduced sleep time after acute ethanol administration. In addition, LPA1-null mice were more anxious than the wild-type mice in the elevated plus maze test. For the pharmacological experiments, the acute administration of the antagonist Ki16425 consistently increased ethanol consumption in both wild-type mice and rats; while it did not modulate alcohol drinking in the LPA1-null mice and lacked intrinsic rewarding properties and locomotor effects in a conditioned place preference paradigm. In addition, LPA1-null mice exhibited a marked reduction on the expression of glutamate-transmission-related genes in the prefrontal cortex similar to those described in alcohol-exposed rodents. Results suggest a relevant role for the LPA/LPA1 signaling system in alcoholism. In addition, the LPA1-null mice emerge as a new model for genetic vulnerability to excessive alcohol drinking. The pharmacological manipulation of LPA1 receptor arises as a new target for the study and treatment of alcoholism.

Artículos en revistas Multi-terminal High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) using Voltage Source Converters (VSC-HVDC) is a promising technology which provides flexible control of active and reactive power and facilitates remote renewable energy integration, above all using long cables. This paper analyses an active power control strategy for multi-terminal VSC-HVDC systems tailored to enhance transient stability of hybrid AC/DC grids. The proposed strategy controls each VSC using frequency measurements of all terminals. Its performance is compared to a strategy in which each VSC is controlled using only local frequency measurements of the AC side, proving that the proposed strategy shows better performance, even taking into account reasonable communication delays. The paper also shows that the proposed strategy generally gives similar results to those obtained when each VSC is controlled using the speed of the centre of inertia (COI). The speed of the COI is a more comprehensive and richer figure than the one proposed in this paper but it is also much more complex to obtain. Simulation results with PSS/E of a test system have been used to illustrate the comparisons and the main contributions of the proposal. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Thermal performance of SS-PCM composites, simulating building envelope conditions, is difficult to asset with traditional laboratory equipment. However, in this work, the evaluation of three SS-PCM based on eutectic fatty acid mixtures of capric-myristic (CA/MA), lauric-myristic (LA/MA) and palmitic-stearic (PA/SA) was accomplished by a testing setup that allows to test samples in steady-state and dynamic conditions. Moreover, a SS-PCM-based acrylic plaster was evaluated as a fiber cement siding finish. The obtained values were used to calculate the thermal transmittance (U-value), heat storage capacity, and thermal inertia parameters under a simulated diurnal cycle. Results showed that the use of phase change materials in powder form increase thermal lag between 148% and 180% and present a decrement factor <0.2. Furthermore, building envelopes as fiber cement siding with a SS-PCM-based acrylic plaster coating decreased 20.8% the indoor temperature, increase 67.26% the thermal lag and decrease 9% of the decrement factor. In this study, air concentrations of BaP in two different seasons (winter 2015 and summer 2016) and BaP levels in ground vegetation from Tarragona County were used as control simulations performed with the WRF-CHIMERE air quality modelling system, in order to reproduce the incidence of that hazardous chemical in air and soils. The CTM was validated for the present climatology, showing a good ability to represent air and soil concentrations of BaP over the target domain (petrochemical, chemical, urban and background sites), particularly in the winter. Then, the variation of the BaP concentrations in air and soils were simulated for the time series 1996-2015 and for the climate change scenario RCP8.5 (2031-2050). While an increase is projected for the levels in air, particularly in chemical and remote sites where the variation can go up to 10%, in terms of soil deposition the findings are the opposite, with an evident decrease in soil BaP concentrations, particularly for background sites. Finally, a potential health effect of BaP for the local population (lung cancer) was assessed. Although according to the projections the EU threshold for BaP atmospheric incidence (1 ng m-3) will not be reached by 2050, there will be an increase in the life-time risk of lung cancer, particularly in the most populated areas within the simulation domain.

This deliverable presents the detailed design of the SunDial concentrators for two case-studies: AMTP, in Iasi (Romania), and MAN, in Corinth (Greece). The design of the concentrator is different for both cases due to two reasons: first, the location in Iasi has a high latitude that implies the need of a design specifically suited to a lower mean sun altitude; second, in order to increase the performance of the concentrator for high latitudes a two-axis tracking system has been selected, which leads to a completely different layout of mirrors and receivers within the rotating platform compared to low latitudes, where one-axis tracking is used. The size of the platforms, which resulted from the analytical studies presented in deliverables D3.1 and D3.2, is 8-9 m per collector side, too large be shipped as a whole module. Therefore, the design of the concentrators has sought a system modularity that enables an easy transportation and installation. The design of the concentrators can be divided into three sub-systems: the rotating platform, the mirrors, and the receivers. A CAD software is used in order to design all of them. The connection between the sub-systems is included in the design. Images resulting from the CAD design are used in order to describe the design concept of each subsystem, whereas the final drawings, which are the main outcome of the deliverable, are presented in the annexes. Also, the CAD design is used to provide the elements inventory of the concentrators, including the materials selected and the manufacturing process used.
