This work explores an alternative way to break down the load using readily available data. Namely, using historical usage data and historical weather data the load can be first divided into temperature-dependent and temperature-independent portions. A simple thermal model of the structure(s) served by the electrical circuit forms the theoretical and mathematical basis of this separation. During summer peaking conditions, the temperature-dependent load is generally composed of air conditioners, which must be modeled properly in order to analyze delayed voltage recovery or other dynamic phenomenon. Once the temperature-dependent fraction of the load has been characterized, the size of compressor, fan, and pump motors can be inferred by the customer class.

The distribution of the extreme large power density of the heat load is imported back as the source term in the energy equation. Then temperature distribution is obtained based on the flow process and heat transfer. The preliminary results show that the temperature distribution reaches the steady-state and its shape is like the broken wings of the butterfly. This is very important for the further design and optimization of the ADS windowless spallation target. So the two-way coupling simulation of the heat transfer process is successfully performed between the computational fluid dynamics and the nuclear physics simulation.

Previous studies reveal that the primary distribution of the current density is sharply enhanced at the edge of a disk electrode submerged into a semi-infinite space of conductive solution. The current enhancement will cause the double layer capacitance at the periphery of the electrode to be charged much faster compared to the center, and can also lead to severe corrosion at the edge. While several studies focused on the geometric design of the electrode to reduce this enhancement, we explore the feasibility of achieving similar effect by shaping the edges of the current input. The simulation uses finite element analysis software to solve the system of partial differential equations and results show that the edge enhancement could be greatly reduced without significantly changing the input efficacy of current and/or charge.

The feasibility of such anticipatory efforts is likely to hinge on local parameters, including domestic energy supplies, foreign exchange and capital constraints, rates of load growth, evidence of impacts on load profiles, and familiarity with demand-side planning concepts.

A mathematical model of the LiAl/LiCl, KCl/FeS cell has been used to study the behavior of the system during relaxation and charging. The effects of state of charge, cell temperature, and current density are presented, and the influence of a period of relaxation on the subsequent charging operation is investigated. In addition, factors that can have a significant impact on the charging characteristics are identified.

These show intervals of missing points, but are provided to allow potential users to reproduce any new work. 2. Data provided at consistent 10 ms (short circuit) and 2.5-3.9 s (sweep) time bases for 365 days, after being corrected and recovered. For this purpose, 155 countries that have data available from 1995 to 2021 were selected. The purpose of selecting these countries is to test the global responsibility of the knowledge economy to attain environmental sustainability. Design/methodology/approach Results are estimated with the help of panel quantile regression. The empirical existence of aggregate demand-based environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) was tested using non-linear tests. Moreover, principal component analysis has been incorporated to construct the knowledge economy index. Findings U-shaped aggregate demand-based EKC at global level is validated. However, environmental deterioration increases with an additional escalation after US$497.945m in aggregate demand. As a determinant, the knowledge economy is reducing CO2 emissions. The knowledge economy has played a significant role in global responsibility, shifting the EKC downward and extending the CO2 reduction phase for every selected country. Further, urbanization, energy intensity, financial development and trade openness significantly deteriorate the environmental quality. Originality/value This study contains the empirical existence of aggregate demand-based EKC. The role of the knowledge economy is examined through an index which is calculated by using four pillars of the knowledge economy (technology, innovations, education and institutions). This study is based on a combined panel of all the countries for which the data was available.

Gross; Manuel López-Mariscal; Anahí Bermúdez-Romero; Julio Candela; Luis Zamudio;We analyzed the peak spring tidal current speeds, annual mean tidal power densities ( T P D ) and annual energy production ( A E P ) obtained from experiment 06.1, referred as the “HYCOM model” throughout, of the three dimensional (3D), global model HYCOM in an area covering the Baja California Pacific and the Gulf of California. The HYCOM model is forced with astronomical tides and surface winds alone, and therefore is particularly suitable to assess the tidal current and wind-driven current contribution to in-stream energy resources. We find two areas within the Gulf of California, one in the Great Island Region and one in the Upper Gulf of California, where peak spring tidal flows reach speeds of 1.1 m per second. Second to fifth-generation tidal stream devices would be suitable for deployment in these two areas, which are very similar in terms of tidal in-stream energy resources. However, they are also very different in terms of sediment type and range in water depth, posing different challenges for in-stream technologies. The highest mean T P D value when excluding TPDs equal or less than 50 W m−2 (corresponding to the minimum velocity threshold for energy production) is of 172.8 W m−2, and is found near the town of San Felipe, at (lat lon) = (31.006–114.64); here energy would be produced during 39.00% of the time. Finally, wind-driven currents contribute very little to the mean T P D and the total A E P . Therefore, the device, the grid, and any energy storage plans need to take into account the periodic tidal current fluctuations, for optimal exploitation of the resources.

Rakov;The division of return stroke current among the arresters and groundings of two unenergized test distribution lines, one horizontally configured and the other vertically configured, was studied at the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing in Florida. The division of return stroke currents for the vertically configured line was initially similar to the division on the horizontally configured line: at the time the return stroke current reached peak value (after one microsecond, or so) the two closest arresters/grounds on both lines passed about 90% of the total current. However, the time during which the return stroke current flowed primarily through the closest arresters to the neutral conductor was significantly shorter on the vertically configured line. On that line, the arrester current was about equally divided among all four arresters after several tens of microseconds. The arrester current division as a function of time measured on the vertical line was successfully modeled using the published VI-characteristic, while the division on the horizontal line after some tens of microseconds was only successfully modeled if the residual voltage of the two arresters closest to the current injection point was reduced by 20%. Based on the triggered lightning current division observed on our line, the minimum energy absorbed in each of the two arresters closest to the strike point during a typical natural first stroke is estimated to be 40 kJ.

Characteristics of Tm:YAG ceramic for high efficient 2-μm lasers are analyzed. Efficient diode end-pumped continuous-wave and Q-switched Tm:YAG ceramic lasers are demonstrated. At the absorbed pump power of 53.2W, the maximum continuous wave (cw) output power of 17.2 W around 2016 nm was obtained with the output transmission of 5%. The optical conversion efficiency is 32.3%, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 36.5%. For Q-switched operation, the shortest width of 69 ns was achieved with the pulse repetition frequency of 500 Hz and single pulse energy of 20.4 mJ, which indicates excellent energy storage capability of the Tm:YAG ceramic.

A mathematical model of the LiAl/LiCl, KCl/FeS cell has been used to study the behavior of the system during relaxation and charging. The effects of state of charge, cell temperature, and current density are presented, and the influence of a period of relaxation on the subsequent charging operation is investigated. In addition, factors that can have a significant impact on the charging characteristics are identified.

These show intervals of missing points, but are provided to allow potential users to reproduce any new work. 2. Data provided at consistent 10 ms (short circuit) and 2.5-3.9 s (sweep) time bases for 365 days, after being corrected and recovered. The dataset includes short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, and MPP voltage, current, and power extracted.

For this purpose, 155 countries that have data available from 1995 to 2021 were selected. The purpose of selecting these countries is to test the global responsibility of the knowledge economy to attain environmental sustainability. Design/methodology/approach Results are estimated with the help of panel quantile regression. The empirical existence of aggregate demand-based environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) was tested using non-linear tests. Moreover, principal component analysis has been incorporated to construct the knowledge economy index. Findings U-shaped aggregate demand-based EKC at global level is validated. However, environmental deterioration increases with an additional escalation after US$497.945m in aggregate demand. As a determinant, the knowledge economy is reducing CO2 emissions. The knowledge economy has played a significant role in global responsibility, shifting the EKC downward and extending the CO2 reduction phase for every selected country. Further, urbanization, energy intensity, financial development and trade openness significantly deteriorate the environmental quality. Originality/value This study contains the empirical existence of aggregate demand-based EKC. The role of the knowledge economy is examined through an index which is calculated by using four pillars of the knowledge economy (technology, innovations, education and institutions). This study is based on a combined panel of all the countries for which the data was available.

Gross; Manuel López-Mariscal; Anahí Bermúdez-Romero; Julio Candela; Luis Zamudio;We analyzed the peak spring tidal current speeds, annual mean tidal power densities ( T P D ) and annual energy production ( A E P ) obtained from experiment 06.1, referred as the “HYCOM model” throughout, of the three dimensional (3D), global model HYCOM in an area covering the Baja California Pacific and the Gulf of California. The HYCOM model is forced with astronomical tides and surface winds alone, and therefore is particularly suitable to assess the tidal current and wind-driven current contribution to in-stream energy resources. We find two areas within the Gulf of California, one in the Great Island Region and one in the Upper Gulf of California, where peak spring tidal flows reach speeds of 1.1 m per second. Second to fifth-generation tidal stream devices would be suitable for deployment in these two areas, which are very similar in terms of tidal in-stream energy resources. However, they are also very different in terms of sediment type and range in water depth, posing different challenges for in-stream technologies. The highest mean T P D value when excluding TPDs equal or less than 50 W m−2 (corresponding to the minimum velocity threshold for energy production) is of 172.8 W m−2, and is found near the town of San Felipe, at (lat lon) = (31.006–114.64); here energy would be produced during 39.00% of the time. Finally, wind-driven currents contribute very little to the mean T P D and the total A E P . Therefore, the device, the grid, and any energy storage plans need to take into account the periodic tidal current fluctuations, for optimal exploitation of the resources.

Rakov;The division of return stroke current among the arresters and groundings of two unenergized test distribution lines, one horizontally configured and the other vertically configured, was studied at the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing in Florida. The division of return stroke currents for the vertically configured line was initially similar to the division on the horizontally configured line: at the time the return stroke current reached peak value (after one microsecond, or so) the two closest arresters/grounds on both lines passed about 90% of the total current. However, the time during which the return stroke current flowed primarily through the closest arresters to the neutral conductor was significantly shorter on the vertically configured line. On that line, the arrester current was about equally divided among all four arresters after several tens of microseconds. The arrester current division as a function of time measured on the vertical line was successfully modeled using the published VI-characteristic, while the division on the horizontal line after some tens of microseconds was only successfully modeled if the residual voltage of the two arresters closest to the current injection point was reduced by 20%. Based on the triggered lightning current division observed on our line, the minimum energy absorbed in each of the two arresters closest to the strike point during a typical natural first stroke is estimated to be 40 kJ.

Characteristics of Tm:YAG ceramic for high efficient 2-μm lasers are analyzed. Efficient diode end-pumped continuous-wave and Q-switched Tm:YAG ceramic lasers are demonstrated. At the absorbed pump power of 53.2W, the maximum continuous wave (cw) output power of 17.2 W around 2016 nm was obtained with the output transmission of 5%. The optical conversion efficiency is 32.3%, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 36.5%. For Q-switched operation, the shortest width of 69 ns was achieved with the pulse repetition frequency of 500 Hz and single pulse energy of 20.4 mJ, which indicates excellent energy storage capability of the Tm:YAG ceramic.
