    A measurement of the production of three isolated photons in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV is reported. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb$^{−1}$ collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The differential cross sections are measured as functions of the transverse energy of each photon, the difference in azimuthal angle and in pseudorapidity between pairs of photons, the invariant mass of pairs of photons, and the invariant mass of the triphoton system. A measurement of the inclusive fiducial cross section is also reported. Next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions are compared to the cross-section measurements. The predictions underestimate the measurement of the inclusive fiducial cross section and the differential measurements at low photon transverse energies and invariant masses. They provide adequate descriptions of the measurements at high values of the photon transverse energies, invariant mass of pairs of photons, and invariant mass of the triphoton system.     Multi-particle cumulants and corresponding Fourier harmonics are measured for azimuthal angle distributions of charged particles in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV and in $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV, and compared to the results obtained for low-multiplicity Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. These measurements aim to assess the collective nature of particle production. The measurements of multi-particle cumulants confirm the evidence for collective phenomena in $p$+Pb and low-multiplicity Pb+Pb collisions. On the other hand, the $pp$ results for four-particle cumulants do not demonstrate collective behaviour, indicating that they may be biased by contributions from non-flow correlations. A comparison of multi-particle cumulants and derived Fourier harmonics across different collision systems is presented as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. For a given multiplicity, the measured Fourier harmonics are largest in Pb+Pb, smaller in $p$+Pb and smallest in $pp$ collisions. The $pp$ results show no dependence on the collision energy, nor on the multiplicity.     The production of a prompt photon in association with a $Z$ boson is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The analysis uses a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC from 2015 to 2018. The production cross-section for the process $pp \rightarrow \ell^+\ell^-\gamma+X$ ($\ell = e, \mu$) is measured within a fiducial phase-space region defined by kinematic requirements on the photon and the leptons, and by isolation requirements on the photon. An experimental precision of 2.9% is achieved for the fiducial cross-section. Differential cross-sections are measured as a function of each of six kinematic variables characterising the $\ell^+\ell^-\gamma$ system. The data are compared with theoretical predictions based on next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations.     The fabrication and design of novel materials and devices for advanced photovoltaics, like the intermediate-band solar cell (IBSC), requires the use of specific characterization tools providing information about their optoelectronic properties. We have tested the suitability of photoreflectance for the characterization of IBSC prototypes based on quantum dots and compared the results obtained with those predicted by the theory. Nonidealities in operative devices have been identified and detailed information has been obtained about the electronic structure of the materials. We have compared PR spectra of IBSCs with those obtained from alternative device architectures, namely a triple-junction solar cell and a multi-quantum well structure.     The first results on the $\sigma_{LT'}$ structure function in exclusive $\pi^0p$ electroproduction at invariant masses of the final state of 1.5 GeV $<$ $W$ $<$ 1.8 GeV and in the range of photon virtualities 0.4 GeV$^2 < Q^2 < 1.0$ GeV$^2$ were obtained from data on beam spin asymmetries and differential cross sections measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The Legendre moments determined from the $\sigma_{LT'}$ structure function have demonstrated sensitivity to the contributions from the nucleon resonances in the second and third resonance regions. These new data on the beam spin asymmetries in $\pi^0p$ electroproduction extend the opportunities for the extraction of the nucleon resonance electroexcitation amplitudes in the mass range above 1.6 GeV.     In this work, undoped and Mn doped Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-4.5PbTiO3 nanoparticles were dispersed in biopolymer and in mixed biopolymer + pentacene as active layer and deposited by spin coating on ITO glasses. Morphological, optical and electrical properties of these layers were investigated. SEM images show the superposition of different deposited layers ITO/TiO2/PZN-PT-np-biopolymer on glass substrate with thicknesses of 1.600 μm, 1.505 μm and 1.765 μm respectively. The absorbance value in UV visible for pentacene layer increases from 75 % to 99 % while the transmittance for ITO glasses diminishes from more than 80 % to 2 %. Optical gaps of ITO, TiO2, PZN-PT nanoparticles are respectively 3.75 eV, 3.2 eV and 3.15 eV. Pentacene deposition reduced the gap to 1.65 eV for undoped sample and 1.60 eV for the doped ones. Intermediate gaps (2.3 eV and 2.6 eV for undoped sample and 2.15 eV and 2.7 eV for doped sample) were observed. Photoluminescence performed between 450 nm and 750 nm confirms « these intermediate gaps ».

    We constrain the intermediate-scale intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF) through its suppression of the electrostatic instability for blazar-induced pair beams. IGMF of femto-Gauss strength are sufficient to significantly deflect the TeV pair beams, which reduces the flux of secondary cascade emission below the observational limits. A similar flux reduction may result from the electrostatic beam-plasma instability, which operates the best at zero IGMF. We study the effect of sub-fG level IGMF on the electrostatic instability of the blazar-induced pair beam. Considering IGMF with correlation lengths smaller than a few kpc, we find that such fields increase the transverse momentum of the pair beam particles, which dramatically reduces the linear growth rate of the electrostatic instability and hence the energy-loss rate of the pair beam. Our results show that the IGMF eliminates the beam-plasma instability as an effective energy-loss agent at a field strength three orders of magnitude below that needed to suppress the secondary cascade emission by magnetic deflection. For intermediate-strength IGMF, we do not know a viable process to explain the observed absence of GeV-scale cascade emission.
