Although the Pakistani government has begun using GETs to minimize the adverse effects of carbon emissions, consumers' adoption rate is quite low. There are few studies examining consumers' desire to adopt GETs in the country. This study attempts to fill this research gap and also contributes by adding three novel factors to the theory of planned behavior (i.e., green energy technology awareness, openness to experience, and green energy technology discomfort) to comprehensively analyze the impact of various factors influencing consumers' desire to adopt GETs. For this purpose, the study establishes a systematic research framework. Data were collected from (n = 330) households in the five major cities (Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Mingora, and Swabi) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province via an inclusive questionnaire survey. The formulated hypotheses are evaluated and scrutinized using structural equation modeling. The results reveal that environmental concern (β = 0.245), green energy technology awareness (β = 0.362), openness to experience (β = 0.256), and green energy technology benefits (β = 0.225) positively affect consumers' desire to adopt GETs. On the other hand, green energy technology costs (β = 0.325) and green energy technology discomfort (β = 0.395) have a negative effect on consumers' adoption of GETs. The research findings emphasize the importance of increasing recognition of GETs, reforming policy frameworks, and providing budget-friendly and user-friendly technologies. Research limitations and future research perspectives are also addressed.

Microbes harbor many traits that are dispensable or even unfavorable under industrial and laboratory settings. The elimination of such traits could improve the host's efficiency, genetic stability, and robustness, thereby increasing the predictability and boosting its performance as a microbial cell factory. We engineered solvent-tolerant Pseudomonas taiwanensis VLB120 to yield streamlined chassis strains with higher growth rates and biomass yields, enhanced solvent tolerance, and improved process performance. In total, the genome was reduced by up to 10%. This was achieved by the elimination of genes that enable the cell to swim and form biofilms and by the deletion of the megaplasmid pSTY and large proviral segments. The resulting strain GRC1 had a 15% higher growth rate and biomass yield than the wildtype. However, this strain lacks the pSTY-encoded efflux pump TtgGHI, rendering it solvent-sensitive. Through reintegration of ttgGHI by chromosomal insertion without (GRC2) and with (GRC3) the corresponding regulator genes, the solvent-tolerant phenotype was enhanced. The generated P. taiwanensis GRC strains enlarge the repertoire of streamlined chassis with enhanced key performance indicators, making them attractive hosts for biotechnological applications. The different solvent tolerance levels of GRC1, GRC2, and GRC3 enable the selection of a fitting host platform in relation to the desired process requirements in a chassis à la carte principle. This was demonstrated in a metabolic engineering approach for the production of phenol from glycerol. The streamlined producer GRC1Δ5-TPL38 outperformed the equivalent nonstreamlined producer VLB120Δ5-TPL38 concerning phenol titer, rate, and yield, thereby highlighting the added value of the streamlined chassis.

These dynamics contradict traditional theoretical assumptions about rational choice and social pressures in collective action, birthing queries regarding why individuals participate. This is despite their involvement in the largest pay modernisation in the NHS (Buchan and Evans 2007) and national level collective bargaining (Bach and Kessler 2012). This chapter draws on evidence from three national government-funded initiatives to illustrate the crowding out of collective dialogue, and concludes that such actions undermine the sustainability of service improvements and increase the potential for ‘partial failure’ (Hyman 1987, p. 30). This highlights the contradictory nature of management more generally in accepting the co-ordinating role of trade unions while eschewing the perceived critique of managerial objectives from which it could ultimately benefit.

El propòsit de la tesi va ser explorar mitjançant estudis empírics l'evolució de l'ús de les eines Lean a les empreses manufactureres europees i el seu vincle amb les tecnologies de la Indústria 4.0 i les pràctiques green. En primer lloc, es va investigar l'adopció i la internalització de les eines Lean i el seu impacte en el rendiment productiu a les empreses manufactureres espanyoles. Tot seguit, es va analitzar la influència de la internalització de les eines Lean en l'adopció de tecnologies de la Indústria 4.0 a les empreses manufactureres europees. I, finalment, es va examinar la relació entre l'ús conjunt d'eines Lean i les pràctiques green associat a l'exercici mediambiental a les empreses manufactureres espanyoles. La metodologia emprada al llarg dels estudis presentats es va basar en l'anàlisi de dades extretes de la European Manufacturing Survey The purpose of the thesis was to explore through empirical studies the evolution of the use of lean tools in European manufacturing firms and their link with Industry 4.0 technologies and green practices and Circular Economy. First, the adoption and internalisation of lean tools and their impact on production performance in Spanish manufacturing firms were investigated. Next, the influence of the internalisation of Lean tools on the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in European manufacturing firms was analysed. Finally, the relationship between the joint use of Lean tools and green practices associated with environmental performance in Spanish manufacturing firms was examined. Abstract This study aims to analyze the innovation strategies for the green supply chain management with QFD (quality function deployment) multidimensionally. The novelty of the study is to define the criteria of green supply chain for each stage of QFD and propose a hybrid model by IVIF (interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy) DEMATEL (decision making trial and evaluation laboratory) and IVIF MOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis) respectively. The results demonstrate that understanding the customer expectations with customer relation management is the most important innovation strategy for the green supply chain management in energy industry with the consecutive stages of QFD whereas benchmarking the competitive market environment has relatively the last seat in the ranking. Hence, it is recommended that energy companies should have an effective customer relationship management. In this context, these companies should make a detailed analysis to learn what their customers directly expect from them. With the help of this issue, these companies should generate their product and services based on these expectations. Additionally, it is also stated that new service and product development is also essential for energy companies to improve their innovativeness. For this purpose, a research and development department should be created, and the qualified people should be employed. Additionally, different opinions should be collected from various parties, such as customers, employees, and suppliers. Since customers who are satisfied will prefer these companies, the energy companies can catch the opportunity to increase their market share.

Renewable energy projects, such as wind farms and hydropower dams, can indirectly benefit biodiversity by mitigating climate change. However, we explain why such indirect benefits should not contribute towards the accounting of project-level net biodiversity outcomes and provide guidance on the steps needed to legitimately claim no-net-loss of biodiversity.

Wind energy projects provide clean energy so that they should be increased to reach the sustainable development goals of the countries. However, current decision-making process should be improved for the effectiveness of these projects. Thus, critical factors should be considered to understand the significant indicators of the performance of the wind energy projects. This article aims to determine the factors that should be considered when deciding on wind energy investments. In this context, 9 different criteria belonging to 3 dimensions (project, firm, market) are determined based on literature review. Later, an analysis is carried out by using hesitant interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to identify the most important factors. Furthermore, 4 different investment strategies in Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) matrix have been determined as alternatives. To determine which of these strategies is suitable for wind energy investments, the hesitant IVIF multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) method has been considered. Additionally, a comparative evaluation is also performed by using technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) methodology. Similarly, sensitivity analysis is also made by considering 9 different cases. The analysis results of different methodologies are quite similar which shows the coherency and reliability of the findings. It is concluded that firm-based factors play the most significant role. It is also identified that technical development, financial performance and organizational effectiveness are the most significant criteria to make investment decision on wind energy projects. Furthermore, due to the market growth potential, it is recommended that wind energy investors increase their investments and strengthen their position in the market.

Although the Pakistani government has begun using GETs to minimize the adverse effects of carbon emissions, consumers' adoption rate is quite low. There are few studies examining consumers' desire to adopt GETs in the country. This study attempts to fill this research gap and also contributes by adding three novel factors to the theory of planned behavior (i.e., green energy technology awareness, openness to experience, and green energy technology discomfort) to comprehensively analyze the impact of various factors influencing consumers' desire to adopt GETs. For this purpose, the study establishes a systematic research framework. Data were collected from (n = 330) households in the five major cities (Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Mingora, and Swabi) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province via an inclusive questionnaire survey. The formulated hypotheses are evaluated and scrutinized using structural equation modeling. The results reveal that environmental concern (β = 0.245), green energy technology awareness (β = 0.362), openness to experience (β = 0.256), and green energy technology benefits (β = 0.225) positively affect consumers' desire to adopt GETs. On the other hand, green energy technology costs (β = 0.325) and green energy technology discomfort (β = 0.395) have a negative effect on consumers' adoption of GETs. The research findings emphasize the importance of increasing recognition of GETs, reforming policy frameworks, and providing budget-friendly and user-friendly technologies. Research limitations and future research perspectives are also addressed.

Microbes harbor many traits that are dispensable or even unfavorable under industrial and laboratory settings. The elimination of such traits could improve the host's efficiency, genetic stability, and robustness, thereby increasing the predictability and boosting its performance as a microbial cell factory. We engineered solvent-tolerant Pseudomonas taiwanensis VLB120 to yield streamlined chassis strains with higher growth rates and biomass yields, enhanced solvent tolerance, and improved process performance. In total, the genome was reduced by up to 10%. This was achieved by the elimination of genes that enable the cell to swim and form biofilms and by the deletion of the megaplasmid pSTY and large proviral segments. The resulting strain GRC1 had a 15% higher growth rate and biomass yield than the wildtype. However, this strain lacks the pSTY-encoded efflux pump TtgGHI, rendering it solvent-sensitive. Through reintegration of ttgGHI by chromosomal insertion without (GRC2) and with (GRC3) the corresponding regulator genes, the solvent-tolerant phenotype was enhanced. The generated P. taiwanensis GRC strains enlarge the repertoire of streamlined chassis with enhanced key performance indicators, making them attractive hosts for biotechnological applications. The different solvent tolerance levels of GRC1, GRC2, and GRC3 enable the selection of a fitting host platform in relation to the desired process requirements in a chassis à la carte principle. This was demonstrated in a metabolic engineering approach for the production of phenol from glycerol. The streamlined producer GRC1Δ5-TPL38 outperformed the equivalent nonstreamlined producer VLB120Δ5-TPL38 concerning phenol titer, rate, and yield, thereby highlighting the added value of the streamlined chassis.

This is despite their involvement in the largest pay modernisation in the NHS (Buchan and Evans 2007) and national level collective bargaining (Bach and Kessler 2012). This chapter draws on evidence from three national government-funded initiatives to illustrate the crowding out of collective dialogue, and concludes that such actions undermine the sustainability of service improvements and increase the potential for ‘partial failure’ (Hyman 1987, p. 30). This highlights the contradictory nature of management more generally in accepting the co-ordinating role of trade unions while eschewing the perceived critique of managerial objectives from which it could ultimately benefit.

I, finalment, es va examinar la relació entre l'ús conjunt d'eines Lean i les pràctiques green associat a l'exercici mediambiental a les empreses manufactureres espanyoles. First, the adoption and internalisation of lean tools and their impact on production performance in Spanish manufacturing firms were investigated. Abstract This study aims to analyze the innovation strategies for the green supply chain management with QFD (quality function deployment) multidimensionally. The novelty of the study is to define the criteria of green supply chain for each stage of QFD and propose a hybrid model by IVIF (interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy) DEMATEL (decision making trial and evaluation laboratory) and IVIF MOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis) respectively. The results demonstrate that understanding the customer expectations with customer relation management is the most important innovation strategy for the green supply chain management in energy industry with the consecutive stages of QFD whereas benchmarking the competitive market environment has relatively the last seat in the ranking. Hence, it is recommended that energy companies should have an effective customer relationship management. In this context, these companies should make a detailed analysis to learn what their customers directly expect from them. With the help of this issue, these companies should generate their product and services based on these expectations. Additionally, it is also stated that new service and product development is also essential for energy companies to improve their innovativeness. For this purpose, a research and development department should be created, and the qualified people should be employed. Additionally, different opinions should be collected from various parties, such as customers, employees, and suppliers. Since customers who are satisfied will prefer these companies, the energy companies can catch the opportunity to increase their market share.

Renewable energy projects, such as wind farms and hydropower dams, can indirectly benefit biodiversity by mitigating climate change. However, we explain why such indirect benefits should not contribute towards the accounting of project-level net biodiversity outcomes and provide guidance on the steps needed to legitimately claim no-net-loss of biodiversity.

Wind energy projects provide clean energy so that they should be increased to reach the sustainable development goals of the countries. However, current decision-making process should be improved for the effectiveness of these projects. Thus, critical factors should be considered to understand the significant indicators of the performance of the wind energy projects. This article aims to determine the factors that should be considered when deciding on wind energy investments. In this context, 9 different criteria belonging to 3 dimensions (project, firm, market) are determined based on literature review. Later, an analysis is carried out by using hesitant interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to identify the most important factors. Furthermore, 4 different investment strategies in Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) matrix have been determined as alternatives. To determine which of these strategies is suitable for wind energy investments, the hesitant IVIF multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) method has been considered. Additionally, a comparative evaluation is also performed by using technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) methodology. Similarly, sensitivity analysis is also made by considering 9 different cases. The analysis results of different methodologies are quite similar which shows the coherency and reliability of the findings. It is concluded that firm-based factors play the most significant role. It is also identified that technical development, financial performance and organizational effectiveness are the most significant criteria to make investment decision on wind energy projects. Furthermore, due to the market growth potential, it is recommended that wind energy investors increase their investments and strengthen their position in the market.
