Denna studie använde en mixed-method-ansats som kombinerade intervjuer och data från projektet Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL). En sju dagars matregistrering gav detaljerade insikter i deltagarnas matintag med fokus på proteinkällor och koldioxidavtryck (CO2e). Deltagare i åldrarna 18-40 rekryterades från Göteborgs universitet och lokala idrottsklubbar mellan oktober 2020 och april 2021. De delades in i två grupper baserat på deras fysiska aktivitetsnivåer, enligt WHO riktlinjer. Datainsamlingen inkluderade semistrukturerade intervjuer och en sju dagars matregistrering med hjälp av onlineverktyget Nutrition Data. Energiförbrukning i vila mättes med indirekt kalorimetri. Intervjuerna undersökte matköpsvanor, kostpreferenser och klimatpåverkan utan att direkt informera deltagarna om klimatfokuset för att undvika bias. Kvantitativa data analyserades med statistiska tester, medan kvalitativa insikter triangulerades med kostregistreringarna för att bedöma eventuellt klimatmedvetna och hållbara matvanor. Analysen guidades av social praktik teori, med fokus på samspelet mellan deltagarnas attityder och beteenden. Statistisk analys genomfördes med SPSS, och signifikanta resultat bestämdes med ett p-värde på 0,05 eller lägre. This study employed a mixed-method approach combining interviews and data from the Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL) project. A seven-day food record provided detailed insights into participants' food intake, focusing on protein sources and carbon footprint (CO2e). Participants, aged 18-40, were recruited from Gothenburg University and local sports clubs between October 2020 and April 2021. They were divided into two groups based on their physical activity levels, following WHO guidelines. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and a seven-day food record using the Nutrition Data online tool. Resting energy expenditure was measured using indirect calorimetry. The interviews explored food shopping habits, dietary preferences, and climate impact considerations without directly informing participants of the climate focus to avoid bias. Quantitative data were analyzed with statistical tests, while qualitative insights were triangulated with food records to assess climate-conscious and sustainable food consumption practices. The analysis was guided by social practice theory, focusing on the interplay between participants' attitudes and behaviors. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, and significant findings were determined with a p-value of 0.05 or lower.

Lately, the application of microwave (MW) irradiation for waste processing has been attracting interest globally. MW-assisted heating possesses several advantages such as the provision of high microwave energy into dielectric materials with deeper penetration for internal heat generation, showing beneficial features in improving the heating rate and reducing the reaction time. Consequently, the most recent literature regarding the applications of MW-assisted heating for biomass pretreatment as well as biofuel and bioenergy production was reviewed and consolidated in this study. An impressive increase in the product yield and improvement of the product properties are reported, with the use of MW-assisted heating in several conversion routes to produce biofuels. Despite being a promising technology for biofuel production, some major fundamental data of MW-assisted heating have not been comprehensively identified. Therefore, the feasibility of this technology for large-scale implementation is still subpar. Understanding the interaction between the feedstock and the microwave electromagnetic field, and the optimization of several operational and mechanical parameters are the two main keystones that would propel the industrialization of MW heating in the near future. This provides key insights leading to increased feasibility and more advanced application of MW heating.

Synopsis Climate change can directly and indirectly affect species distribution. Warming may allow for invasive species, such as apple snails, to migrate to higher latitudes where temperatures are more conducive to their survival and invasion success. Higher temperatures and lower pH ranges have been previously documented to affect the form and function of calcium carbonate shells, which serve many functions, including protection from predators and thermoregulation. This study aimed to quantify differences in the morphology and mechanical properties of invasive apple snail, Pomacea maculata, shells after altering temperature and pH. We mechanically tested shells among three five-week treatments: control, higher temperature, and lower pH. Ultimate Strength increased in shells that were exposed to higher temperatures, but Young’s Modulus and Peak Load did not differ among control, temperature, and pH treatments. Apple snails in higher temperature tanks increased their shell length over the five-week trials. Although snail morphometrics did not differ between sexes, male shells exhibited a higher Peak Load, Young’s Modulus, and Ultimate Strength compared to female shells. Our findings are consistent with previous gastropod studies, in that a lower pH is associated with a decrease in shell size, and higher temperatures yield larger snail shells with a higher ultimate strength. Peak Load did not significantly differ among treatments, which suggests that the cross-sectional area is relatively important when considering this species mechanical performance today and in future climates. Due to the intense nutritional and calcium demands of egg production, female snails may be more susceptible to weakened shells due to low pH environments caused by climate change.

Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian region (Czech Republic) is a European air pollution hot spot for airborne particulate matter (PM), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and ultrafine particles (UFPs). Air pollution source apportionment is essential for implementation of successful abatement strategies. UFPs or nanoparticles of diameter <100 nm exhibit the highest deposition efficiency in human lungs. To permit apportionment of PM sources at the hot-spot including nanoparticles, Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) was applied to highly time resolved particle number size distributions (NSD, 14 nm-10 μm) and PM0.09-1.15 chemical composition. Diurnal patterns, meteorological variables, gaseous pollutants, organic markers, and associations between the NSD factors and chemical composition factors were used to identify the pollution sources. The PMF on the NSD reveals two factors in the ultrafine size range: industrial UFPs (28%, number mode diameter - NMD 45 nm), industrial/fresh road traffic nanoparticles (26%, NMD 26 nm); three factors in the accumulation size range: urban background (24%, NMD 93 nm), coal burning (14%, volume mode diameter - VMD 0.5 μm), regional pollution (3%, VMD 0.8 μm) and one factor in the coarse size range: industrial coarse particles/road dust (2%, VMD 5 μm). The PMF analysis of PM0.09-1.15 revealed four factors: SIA/CC/BB (52%), road dust (18%), sinter/steel (16%), iron production (16%). The factors in the ultrafine size range resolved with NSD have a positive correlation with sinter/steel production and iron production factors resolved with chemical composition. Coal combustion factor resolved with NSD has moderate correlation with SIA/CC/BB factor. The organic markers homohopanes correlate with coal combustion and the levoglucosan correlates with urban background. The PMF applications to NSD and chemical composition datasets are complementary. PAHs in PM1 were found to be associated with coal combustion factor.

Artículos en revistas Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) represent one of the first steps in the Smart Grid process, where Power Line Communication (PLC) is emerging as the most costeffective solution since it allows reusing electric infrastructures as communication channel. However, the performance of this technology is highly affected by the characteristics of the existing distribution network. This article presents a thorough sensitivity analysis to assess the operating limits of smart metering applications for multiple representative configurations of low voltage (LV) networks based on a PLC simulation framework that integrates DLMS/COSEM and PRIME standards. The number of registered nodes and the time to read all meters have been defined as Key Performance Indicators to assess the communication performance. [1; 2]; Hu Z.[1; 2];In this work, a novel enhanced deep borehole heat exchanger (EDBHE) was proposed to improve heat extraction efficiency based on the jet grouting method. By means of this technology, a soilcrete zone with high thermal conductivity was built near the wellbore. To analyze the feasibility and efficiency of this method, we firstly constructed a validated deep borehole heat exchanger (DBHE) model based on the field experimental data. Numerical simulations were carried out to investigate the 30-year production performance of EDBHE. Results demonstrated that the jet grouting method is an efficient way for improving thermal output of DBHE. It is evaluated that the average annual heat production rate over a 30-year heating period of EDBHE is 463.2 kW, which is 1.27 times as that of DBHE. Sensitivity analyses indicate that the heat production rate and outlet temperature mainly depend on the height and radius of the artificial soilcrete zone. However, thermal output is not sensitive to thermal conductivity of the soilcrete zone due to the higher thermal resistance of the geological formation. For the experimental site used in this work, the recommended height, radius, and thermal conductivity of the soilcrete are 1000 m, 1.0 m, and 50 W/m °C, respectively.

Beets; Xiaoqiang Li; Simon Troelstra; Chao Luo;Major reorganizations in climate and tectonic regime occurred in East Asia during the Pleistocene, resulting in large-scale environmental changes. In this paper a detailed geochemical and mineralogical record of these changes is presented from a distal alluvial fan sedimentary sequence in the northern Weihe Basin. We established that, in addition to glacial-interglacial variation, there are three distinctly different units deposited over the past 1 m.y. These units are the result of variations in the overall tectonic regime in the northern Weihe Basin. Fine-grained detrital minerals were predominantly delivered during colder climatic periods, whereas evaporative minerals were dominantly deposited during the warmer, interglacial periods, probably as a result of strong seasonal contrast. This compositional variation demonstrates the importance of climate control on hinterland erosion, surface runoff, chemical weathering and evaporation. Al-normalized ratios of indicative major elements relative to average loess composition, indicate important variations in sedimentary processes, mostly related to sediment flux. Si-enrichment is an index for past flooding events, while Fe enrichment, just like K and Ti, reflects influx of clays. In contrast, Ca and Mn are strongly enriched throughout the core, associated with the authigenic precipitation of carbonates, especially during interglacial periods. The lower (~ 1000–690 ka) and upper (~ 330–0 ka) units of the core are characterized by relative intense and frequent flooding, which coincided with extensive ponding in the study area. In the middle unit (~ 690–330 ka) increased salinity levels caused by evaporation, as reflected in the high Sr/Ca ratio and dolomite abundance, led to increased carbonate precipitation. Simultaneously, the increased influx of fine sediments indicates increased clay production in the source area as a result of a more intense summer monsoon strength after 600 ka. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Two cases are considered - operation of electric drives in one phase and in different phases. An analysis of their impact on the electrical supply network is carried out, the results are compared with the permissible Russian standards. An analytical optimization method based on the analysis of power graphs of electric drives with periodic load was considered. The article contains an overview of possible methods for regulating the working phase of the mechanism.

Based on the logarithmic mean Divisia index method, the REC changes are decomposed into seven driving forces, which are climate change, energy price, energy expenditure mix, energy cost share (in total expenditure), expenditure share (in income), per capita income and population effects. According to the results, climate effect due to increasing days with abnormal temperature, energy cost share effect characterized by more expenditure to be paid for energy use, income effect describing constant income growth in the residential sector definitely increase REC in both urban and rural areas. In contrast, energy prices and energy expenditure mix effects negatively contribute to the REC increase, respectively because of the increase in energy prices and the transition from the low-priced energy to high-priced energy. Expenditure share and population effects play opposite roles in urban and rural areas, and the reasons and implications are analysed in depth.

Due to the complexity of the detailed wind farm model, a dynamic equivalent model, with a reasonable order reduction of the detailed model and still reflecting inside-wind-farm and wind-farm-grid SSO characteristics is essential. In this paper, based on the principle that similar matrices have identical eigenvalues, the SSO analysis of an N-machine wind farm with VSC-HVDC system is conducted by simplifying it into two single-machine systems. The modeling method of the two single-machine systems is presented. Four case studies are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model when compared with the detailed model in various scenarios. The proposed model is also benchmarked with the output multiplication-based equivalent model (OMM). Comparison results show that although the system order is reduced significantly, the proposed simplified equivalent model can still reflect inside-wind-farm and wind-farm-grid SSO modes in various scenarios. Meanwhile, the rationality of the OMM in terms of the wind-farm-grid SSO analysis is verified theoretically.

Hur påverkar olika aspekter av matvanor koldioxidavtrycket? Hur beaktas hållbarhet inom ramen för matvanor? Denna studie använde en mixed-method-ansats som kombinerade intervjuer och data från projektet Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL). En sju dagars matregistrering gav detaljerade insikter i deltagarnas matintag med fokus på proteinkällor och koldioxidavtryck (CO2e). Deltagare i åldrarna 18-40 rekryterades från Göteborgs universitet och lokala idrottsklubbar mellan oktober 2020 och april 2021. De delades in i två grupper baserat på deras fysiska aktivitetsnivåer, enligt WHO riktlinjer. Datainsamlingen inkluderade semistrukturerade intervjuer och en sju dagars matregistrering med hjälp av onlineverktyget Nutrition Data. Energiförbrukning i vila mättes med indirekt kalorimetri. This study employed a mixed-method approach combining interviews and data from the Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL) project. A seven-day food record provided detailed insights into participants' food intake, focusing on protein sources and carbon footprint (CO2e). Participants, aged 18-40, were recruited from Gothenburg University and local sports clubs between October 2020 and April 2021. They were divided into two groups based on their physical activity levels, following WHO guidelines. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and a seven-day food record using the Nutrition Data online tool. Resting energy expenditure was measured using indirect calorimetry. The interviews explored food shopping habits, dietary preferences, and climate impact considerations without directly informing participants of the climate focus to avoid bias. Quantitative data were analyzed with statistical tests, while qualitative insights were triangulated with food records to assess climate-conscious and sustainable food consumption practices. The analysis was guided by social practice theory, focusing on the interplay between participants' attitudes and behaviors. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, and significant findings were determined with a p-value of 0.05 or lower.

Lately, the application of microwave (MW) irradiation for waste processing has been attracting interest globally. MW-assisted heating possesses several advantages such as the provision of high microwave energy into dielectric materials with deeper penetration for internal heat generation, showing beneficial features in improving the heating rate and reducing the reaction time. Consequently, the most recent literature regarding the applications of MW-assisted heating for biomass pretreatment as well as biofuel and bioenergy production was reviewed and consolidated in this study. An impressive increase in the product yield and improvement of the product properties are reported, with the use of MW-assisted heating in several conversion routes to produce biofuels. Despite being a promising technology for biofuel production, some major fundamental data of MW-assisted heating have not been comprehensively identified. Therefore, the feasibility of this technology for large-scale implementation is still subpar. Understanding the interaction between the feedstock and the microwave electromagnetic field, and the optimization of several operational and mechanical parameters are the two main keystones that would propel the industrialization of MW heating in the near future. This provides key insights leading to increased feasibility and more advanced application of MW heating.

Synopsis Climate change can directly and indirectly affect species distribution. Warming may allow for invasive species, such as apple snails, to migrate to higher latitudes where temperatures are more conducive to their survival and invasion success. Higher temperatures and lower pH ranges have been previously documented to affect the form and function of calcium carbonate shells, which serve many functions, including protection from predators and thermoregulation. This study aimed to quantify differences in the morphology and mechanical properties of invasive apple snail, Pomacea maculata, shells after altering temperature and pH. We mechanically tested shells among three five-week treatments: control, higher temperature, and lower pH. Ultimate Strength increased in shells that were exposed to higher temperatures, but Young’s Modulus and Peak Load did not differ among control, temperature, and pH treatments. Apple snails in higher temperature tanks increased their shell length over the five-week trials. Although snail morphometrics did not differ between sexes, male shells exhibited a higher Peak Load, Young’s Modulus, and Ultimate Strength compared to female shells. Our findings are consistent with previous gastropod studies, in that a lower pH is associated with a decrease in shell size, and higher temperatures yield larger snail shells with a higher ultimate strength. Peak Load did not significantly differ among treatments, which suggests that the cross-sectional area is relatively important when considering this species mechanical performance today and in future climates. Due to the intense nutritional and calcium demands of egg production, female snails may be more susceptible to weakened shells due to low pH environments caused by climate change.

Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian region (Czech Republic) is a European air pollution hot spot for airborne particulate matter (PM), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and ultrafine particles (UFPs). Air pollution source apportionment is essential for implementation of successful abatement strategies. UFPs or nanoparticles of diameter <100 nm exhibit the highest deposition efficiency in human lungs. To permit apportionment of PM sources at the hot-spot including nanoparticles, Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) was applied to highly time resolved particle number size distributions (NSD, 14 nm-10 μm) and PM0.09-1.15 chemical composition. Diurnal patterns, meteorological variables, gaseous pollutants, organic markers, and associations between the NSD factors and chemical composition factors were used to identify the pollution sources. The PMF on the NSD reveals two factors in the ultrafine size range: industrial UFPs (28%, number mode diameter - NMD 45 nm), industrial/fresh road traffic nanoparticles (26%, NMD 26 nm); three factors in the accumulation size range: urban background (24%, NMD 93 nm), coal burning (14%, volume mode diameter - VMD 0.5 μm), regional pollution (3%, VMD 0.8 μm) and one factor in the coarse size range: industrial coarse particles/road dust (2%, VMD 5 μm). The PMF analysis of PM0.09-1.15 revealed four factors: SIA/CC/BB (52%), road dust (18%), sinter/steel (16%), iron production (16%). The factors in the ultrafine size range resolved with NSD have a positive correlation with sinter/steel production and iron production factors resolved with chemical composition. Coal combustion factor resolved with NSD has moderate correlation with SIA/CC/BB factor. The organic markers homohopanes correlate with coal combustion and the levoglucosan correlates with urban background. The PMF applications to NSD and chemical composition datasets are complementary. PAHs in PM1 were found to be associated with coal combustion factor.

Artículos en revistas Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) represent one of the first steps in the Smart Grid process, where Power Line Communication (PLC) is emerging as the most costeffective solution since it allows reusing electric infrastructures as communication channel. However, the performance of this technology is highly affected by the characteristics of the existing distribution network. This article presents a thorough sensitivity analysis to assess the operating limits of smart metering applications for multiple representative configurations of low voltage (LV) networks based on a PLC simulation framework that integrates DLMS/COSEM and PRIME standards. The number of registered nodes and the time to read all meters have been defined as Key Performance Indicators to assess the communication performance. [1; 2]; Hu Z.[1; 2];In this work, a novel enhanced deep borehole heat exchanger (EDBHE) was proposed to improve heat extraction efficiency based on the jet grouting method. By means of this technology, a soilcrete zone with high thermal conductivity was built near the wellbore. To analyze the feasibility and efficiency of this method, we firstly constructed a validated deep borehole heat exchanger (DBHE) model based on the field experimental data. Numerical simulations were carried out to investigate the 30-year production performance of EDBHE. Results demonstrated that the jet grouting method is an efficient way for improving thermal output of DBHE. It is evaluated that the average annual heat production rate over a 30-year heating period of EDBHE is 463.2 kW, which is 1.27 times as that of DBHE. Sensitivity analyses indicate that the heat production rate and outlet temperature mainly depend on the height and radius of the artificial soilcrete zone. However, thermal output is not sensitive to thermal conductivity of the soilcrete zone due to the higher thermal resistance of the geological formation. For the experimental site used in this work, the recommended height, radius, and thermal conductivity of the soilcrete are 1000 m, 1.0 m, and 50 W/m °C, respectively.

Beets; Xiaoqiang Li; Simon Troelstra; Chao Luo;Major reorganizations in climate and tectonic regime occurred in East Asia during the Pleistocene, resulting in large-scale environmental changes. In this paper a detailed geochemical and mineralogical record of these changes is presented from a distal alluvial fan sedimentary sequence in the northern Weihe Basin. We established that, in addition to glacial-interglacial variation, there are three distinctly different units deposited over the past 1 m.y. These units are the result of variations in the overall tectonic regime in the northern Weihe Basin. Fine-grained detrital minerals were predominantly delivered during colder climatic periods, whereas evaporative minerals were dominantly deposited during the warmer, interglacial periods, probably as a result of strong seasonal contrast. This compositional variation demonstrates the importance of climate control on hinterland erosion, surface runoff, chemical weathering and evaporation. Al-normalized ratios of indicative major elements relative to average loess composition, indicate important variations in sedimentary processes, mostly related to sediment flux. Si-enrichment is an index for past flooding events, while Fe enrichment, just like K and Ti, reflects influx of clays. In contrast, Ca and Mn are strongly enriched throughout the core, associated with the authigenic precipitation of carbonates, especially during interglacial periods. The lower (~ 1000–690 ka) and upper (~ 330–0 ka) units of the core are characterized by relative intense and frequent flooding, which coincided with extensive ponding in the study area. In the middle unit (~ 690–330 ka) increased salinity levels caused by evaporation, as reflected in the high Sr/Ca ratio and dolomite abundance, led to increased carbonate precipitation. Simultaneously, the increased influx of fine sediments indicates increased clay production in the source area as a result of a more intense summer monsoon strength after 600 ka. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Two cases are considered - operation of electric drives in one phase and in different phases. An analysis of their impact on the electrical supply network is carried out, the results are compared with the permissible Russian standards. An analytical optimization method based on the analysis of power graphs of electric drives with periodic load was considered. The article contains an overview of possible methods for regulating the working phase of the mechanism.

Based on the logarithmic mean Divisia index method, the REC changes are decomposed into seven driving forces, which are climate change, energy price, energy expenditure mix, energy cost share (in total expenditure), expenditure share (in income), per capita income and population effects. According to the results, climate effect due to increasing days with abnormal temperature, energy cost share effect characterized by more expenditure to be paid for energy use, income effect describing constant income growth in the residential sector definitely increase REC in both urban and rural areas. In contrast, energy prices and energy expenditure mix effects negatively contribute to the REC increase, respectively because of the increase in energy prices and the transition from the low-priced energy to high-priced energy. Expenditure share and population effects play opposite roles in urban and rural areas, and the reasons and implications are analysed in depth.

Due to the complexity of the detailed wind farm model, a dynamic equivalent model, with a reasonable order reduction of the detailed model and still reflecting inside-wind-farm and wind-farm-grid SSO characteristics is essential. In this paper, based on the principle that similar matrices have identical eigenvalues, the SSO analysis of an N-machine wind farm with VSC-HVDC system is conducted by simplifying it into two single-machine systems. The modeling method of the two single-machine systems is presented. Four case studies are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model when compared with the detailed model in various scenarios. The proposed model is also benchmarked with the output multiplication-based equivalent model (OMM). Comparison results show that although the system order is reduced significantly, the proposed simplified equivalent model can still reflect inside-wind-farm and wind-farm-grid SSO modes in various scenarios. Meanwhile, the rationality of the OMM in terms of the wind-farm-grid SSO analysis is verified theoretically.
