    AbstractHeterojunction CdS/CdTe thin film solar cells were fabricated with a superstrate structure consisting of the successive layers: soda lime glass/ITO/CdS/CdTe/back contact. ZnTe:Cu films were deposited on the back surface of the CdTe layer presenting as ohmic back contact. The substrate was soda lime glass coated with ITO films by rf magnetron sputtering serving as the transparent front contact. A thin layer of CdS with thickness about 80nm was applied by chemical bath deposition. Close-spaced sublimation of the CdTe films was accomplished by placing a CdTe source in a close proximity (6mm) to the substrate in vacuum chamber with low pressure about 3×10-2 mbar. The source was heated to 550 ∘C and the substrate to 450 ∘C. This arrangement causes Cd and Te to sublime from source and diffuse to the substrate. The fabricated cells were investigated using current-voltage (I-V) in the temperature range 20-300K under a standard AM1.5 illumination in order to define the transport mechanism in the heterojunction. Tunnelling enhanced interface recombination has been found to dominate carrier transport mechanism in the junction at all investigated temperatures.

    AbstractMembrane Technology and Research, Inc. has proposed a hybrid system combining amine scrubbing with membrane technology to reduce energy cost. Previous studies of CO2 absorption mainly focused on coal-fired flue gas with 12% CO2. However, in the hybrid process, the CO2 in the flue gas can be enriched to 20%. Natural gas turbines will have flue gas with as little as 3% CO2。 Based on the arrangement, the hybrid amine/membrane system provides a gas to the system that has double the CO2 concentration of normal flue gas, reduces the volume of gas sent to the capture unit, or reduces the removal requirements for the capture unit.The objective of this work is to minimize the total energy use of stripping concentrated piperazine (PZ) at rich loading when treating flue gas from 3 to 20% inlet CO2. The base-case stripping configuration is the advanced flash stripper with warm rich bypass and cold rich exchanger bypass. . This configuration includes two split cross-exchangers in series, a convective steam heater, a smaller stripper column, a low residence time flash tank, and stripping at high temperature to produce CO2 at 5 to 17bar. Rich loading in 5 and 8m PZ was varied from 0.37 to 0.43mol CO2/mol N. For each rich loading, lean loading was optimized to minimize the total equivalent work. The “Independence” model for PZ in Aspen Plus® was used to simulate the stripping performance.Because 5m PZ has a lower viscosity than 8m PZ, it can achieve a reduced approach temperature in the cross exchanger. The total energy performance for 5m PZ is practically the same as 8m PZ, even though the capacity of 5m PZ is lower. Significantly more energy is required to regenerate solvents with lower rich loading. As CO2 rich loading increases, the equivalent work requirement decreases for the same loading difference between rich and lean.Stripping data for 24 cases, including heat duty, equivalent work, CO2 output pressure, and optimal cold and warm rich bypass were used to build a correlation with CO2 rich and lean loading. The Second Law efficiency based on the ratio of stripping minimum work and total ideal work was introduced to make the most of stripping work. The Second Law efficiency has a maximum value at a specific CO2 loading.

    It is crucial to reduce the energy penalties related to CO2 capture processes if CCS is to be implemented at industrial scale. In this context, gas-solid sorption has become a relevant technology. The absence of large amounts of water when using dry solid sorbents and their high heat capacity reduce the energy requirements in the gas-solid sorption CO2 capture process. Depending on the sorbent composition, the gas-solid sorption process carries out at high or low temperatures. High temperature sorbents allow the utilization of waste energy while energy requirements in low temperature processes will be less demanding. This study is focused on the assessment and comparison of the final energy penalty of low-temperature (amine impregnated alumina-based solid particles) and high-temperature solid sorbents capture process (calcium oxide).

    AbstractThis report illustrates the experimental data associated with solar overheating. The experimental data has validated an analytical model which allows for the study of the influences a primary circuit's design has on the overheating of the solar tank.Secondly, the report includes a study of the stagnation in a solar facility. The evolution of the temperature in the hydraulic circuit by means of its measurement at 30 different points, together with the data of the pressure and flow, allow for the real behavior of the solar installation in stagnation conditions to be investigated.Finally, the study shows the measurements obtained on a solar thermal installation located in Alicante (southern Spain). Every installation has been monitored for several months and the main temperatures and pressures around the solar circuit have been noted. The measurements and their processing have allowed for the detection of overheating and stagnation problems in real operating conditions.

    Abstract Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is one of several mitigation options that must be implemented in order to reduce anthropogenic CO 2 emissions. The work presented in this paper is a part of the ongoing PRO_CCS project, where the emphasis is on Polish emitters located on or close to the Baltic Sea coast and possible whole chain CCS solutions for these. This paper will focus on the potential use of CO 2 from these sources in CO 2 -EOR projects in the Baltic Sea and/or North Sea. In addition, a number of technical and non-technical CO 2 -EOR related aspects have been identified and discussed. Two oilfields, B8 in the Polish economic sector of the Baltic Sea and Brage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf have been selected. These two fields are matched with suitable emitters in Poland to develop two separate CCUS scenarios. The scenarios will provide a prediction on operations during the CO 2 -EOR project lifetime. These predictions will be based on open information about the oilfields and their current operation, and on available literature on CO 2 -EOR operations. The goal of the project is to assess the economic viability of the two scenarios.

    AbstractIron-acceptor (FeAc) pair association has been studied in compensated n-type silicon. A dynamic approach, based on the charge carrier recombination rates over the Fei trap level, leads to an explanation of the observed FeAc pairing reaction in compensated n-type silicon and extends the understanding of FeAc pairing kinetics. Association kinetics was used to measure a height dependent acceptor concentration profile. Even in compensated n-type silicon good agreement with expected concentrations is found.

    AbstractSwitchable exhaust air (SEA) window allows the exhaust air from HVAC system to be ventilated through the cavity of the window to ambient. It can be regarded as an exhaust air heat recovery device in buildings. The annual energy requirement of the window has been calculated in Wuhan, China. The energy requirements for conditioning fresh air with and without the total heat recovery ventilators (THRVs) are also investigated. Heat recovery performance of the SEA window and the THRVs is compared. Results show that the SEA window can potentially provide alternative solution for recovering the low-grade energy from air-conditioning exhaust air.

    AbstractBio-syngas from gasification of sugarcane bagasse is one of the most promising sources for renewable energy. As an agriculture-based biomass, sugarcane bagasse has a high content of moisture (46-52%), fibrous (43-52%) and low bulk density (80-120kg/m3). This quality of bagasse will tend to initiate agglomeration and cause de-fluidization. It will disturb the gasification process and finally will decrease yield and quality of syn-gas. Its chracteristics in low quality can be improved by pretreatment, i.e., torrefaction process, addressed by slow heating of biomass on wet or dry conditions on atmosphere pressure for 1hour before it is used as feedstock gasification.This preliminary work features an experimental investigation of torrefaction process of Indonesian sugarcane cane bagasse. Temperature of torrefaction varies from 150, 175, 200, 225, 250 and 300°C. For bagasse gasification process, the optimum temperature of dry torrefaction is 150°C. At this temperature, yield of syngas will higher than other torrefaction temperature. Temperature of dry torrefaction will give energy saving opportunities than that's of wet torrefaction (180°C, 1 hr).Analysis ultimate and proximate also indicate that sugarcane bagasse with temperature torrefaction 150°C give better result than other torrefaction's temperature in high content of hydrogen and low content of carbon.

    AbstractPhysical and chemical mutagen studies on experimental of mutagenesis in Jatropha curcas are limited.The study wasaimed to estimate the genetic diversity on J. curcas mutants using RAPD. Eighteenmutants resulted from colchicine treatment and one wild type of J. curcaswere used in this study. Dendrogram derived from UPGMA clustering analysis using simple matching coefficient of RAPD markerindicate thatthe eighteenmutants and one wild type were divided into three major groups consist of three, eight and seven genotypes respectively. The study reveals genetic diversity within mutants of J. Curcas based on RAPD fingerprinting techniques.
